Thanks A-Bone . The cluster does look great now i reckon, took the EF for a spin the other day and it's a massive improvement over the EL dials with CF faceplate. So now that's all done, it's on to bigger things

Which brings me to this..

I think i have decided to finally do things right... and boost the Fairmont.. :o

Something hit me the other day when i was sussing out prices for some parts for the head, and i realized that i can work this baby N/A all i like, but it's still going to be a fairly heavy car at the end of the day, therefore it will still feel pretty average once it's done. So.. I'm going the supercharger route, just something basic, with around 200kw at the wheels would be nice for a decent street cruiser me thinks.. At the moment, I'm considering the only 2 feasible options to me.. Snort M112 kit or the Raptor kit, still weighing them up against each other at the moment. Obviously, this won't be getting done for a long while, but if I'm gonna go that route i may as well stop with the engine for now and start working towards a good setup for when the blower arrives - should be fun

Sweet, let me know when you are close, I was thinking of that over the turbo route. We might be able to cut down on freight costs which is a big hurdle at this point in time.

Will do mate, will do :). I think it was around $200 i got quoted from Tim at Raptor Superchargers to have their kit shipped to NZ, but that was a long time ago. Not sure on prices from Snort as they haven't got back to me yet, but will keep you in the loop when i get closer to purchasing a kit

Wow. Going boosted huh?

There's a Taranaki Ford Club run out to Auckland at the end of the month. I'd like to join them, but my ankle bracelet will probably kick up a s**t and alert the authorities before I hit Otaki.

Would have loved to bring the bloody Futurlane up your way and let you have a drive around the block.... With no gears left to shred it would be awkward however.

Bums.

Apparently I can get special release by talking nicely to a probation officer but have yet to try it. Think "I just want to drive my car to Auckland so I can thrash it and burn out some tyres and show my online mates just how my car drives" is going to be a valid excuse.

Sadly.

You should try and get onto them - They're on nzfordforums... Meet some of the lads and their cars. Could be fun.

Hey Fiend,

Yeah mate, plans are to have the Fairmont seeing a bit of boost. Don't get me wrong, it goes well for what it is right now, but for me to be happy with it's day to day performance being auto, boost is the only way to go when it comes to the fun factor

Oh yeah, the NZFordForum run is coming up real soon, unfortunately i won't be able to make it as i have something already planned for that weekend. Sounds like it should be a good run though, so I'm certain there will be another in the future which I'll be sure to attend. They are doing a forum car night photoshoot on the Saturday night i think, which would be awesome!! It's funny because one of the guys down that way was urging me to come as he will be the only e-series ford there (actually a NF Lane 5.0). All the guys/gals up here attending the run have B-series so he didn't want to be the 'odd one out' so to speak haha. Met a few members including the forum owners up at the Auckland AFD in April which was good, met up at McDonald's in the morning then had a short group run out to North Harbour Stadium which was pretty cool.

If i could make it to the forum run, it would have been awesome to finally meet ya and see the almighty Futurlane - was reading about the T5 packing up in your thread the other day mate, sad to hear about it aye, maybe convert it back to auto with a small stall in the mean time just to get it back up and running?

Here's a couple of progress pic's on the head.. Not far away now, just finishing up on the shaping and getting everything matched. The intake ports need a bit more work, particularly the short side turn which needs to be layed back a bit more and slightly widened.

Image
Image

In. port, still need to finish the guide bosses off properly, but its getting there..
Image

Ex. port and short side..

Still need to round the guide bosses off on the left side against the wall as they look a bit too sharp i think..
Image

Should be finished with the port work soon. Only thing holding me back right now from getting everything else done is money..

I know how ya feel mate, money is a big hurdle with these things.

I gave up on my head, done all the de-burring and widened the exhaust ports but yeh, sorta lost incentive without being able to drive the new engine :( I think I'll run with the XR6 head for awhile and try get a stockie head done maybe. Easy enough swap over.

Well last night i had a bit of a muck around on photoshop and came up with these.

Image
Image

Have decided i might have a go at respraying my Concordes sometime. Just have to get a set of stockies to roll around on in the meantime though..

Got the motivation from BenJ's thread where he recently sprayed his wheels, and got the idea a while back from FordFairmont who did this mad as chop for me..
Image

So I'm thinking of spraying the centre part of the wheel in gunmetal grey, or something close to it, and sanding back the lip and polishing it up, sort of Dark Argent style. Should look pretty good i think, a bit different from the usual silver wheels. Might also get the tyres white-walled for that added touch.

just an idea, if you keep the lip silver..... it will make the 16's perhaps look a little smaller. But if you paint the whole wheel gunmetal or whatever, then add whitewalls, it will make the wheels look bigger

heres a chop, with a meshed grille like from my old car..... had to throw that in :P

Oh hell yeah!! That looks mint, i think you might be right about the polished lip making it appear a little smaller. Was originally thinking of polishing the lip and white walling the tyres to give it that sort of twin line whitewall look, something similar to the boxcar below, but it'll be much easier to just spray the whole wheel one colour and clear it and not have to worry about sanding back and polishing the lips..

I'll also have to get some quotes on white walls, theres a couple of mobs around here that can "whitewall" my existing tyres, much cheaper than trying to source a brand new set of whitewall tyres in 225/50/16's.

Not yet bud, haven't really done much lately at all unfortunately :(

Ha, the Concorde's havent been touched, well, not yet anyways . I just finished sanding back and repainting my old set of 16" ROH Reflex's in Duplicolor Silver wheel paint. Will be putting them on the old man's EF XR - i must say, it is one sexy looking silver, has a metal flake appearance and looks s**t hot!! Will throw some pic's up of that tomorrow.. So, i may re-do my Concorde's in that silver, or i may do them in Duplicolor Graphite wheel paint and aim for a finish like this wheel below (which i have a major soft spot for )

We'll see what happens anyway :P

A silver would be good, Craig (XRFAIRMONT67) did mine in a really metallic version of the original colour, prepped them much better than factory and they looked MINT in person. Gets my vote :D

They really need to stay silver I reckon. Your car is really good now, anything else you do has to be done carefully or you risk messing it up.

I'm looking forward to pics of the wheels, that volvo one looks good but it suits that style too.

I posted in my thread too, been busy :D

Here's some shots of the old ROH's..

They were in pretty rough condition when i got them with the car, clear peeling off all over the place, chipped in a few areas, quite a bit of gutter rash around the edges and a few scratches to boot. Here's one of them..
Image
So hit them with degreaser first to remove as much crap and brake dust from the wheels, let them dry, then started sanding them back with 150 grit wet to smooth over the whole surface, remove all the existing clear and reduce the amount of gutter rash, followed up by 320 grit. Cleaned the surface, then sprayed on some white primer..
Image
Once that was dry, i used some body filler to fill in any gutter rash that was left and other chips and deep scratches that were visible, sanded the filler back smooth once it had dried and then sprayed on a few coats of grey filler primer.
Image
Once that was dry, did a wet sand with 320 grit, cleaned the surface again, then began spraying on 3 coats of the Duplicolor Silver wheel paint, followed by 2 coats of clear. Turned out pretty decent i think, especially for something sprayed straight out of a pressure pack. Duplicolor FTW
Image
Can't get them out in the sun to show the metal flake it has in the finish because it's absolutely pissing down right now, but you can kind of see it here.
Image
Image
Just need to get some new centre cap labels for the caps and they'll be good to go onto the XR :)
