Thanks mate, still needs a few things tidied up but I'll get round to it eventually. Good to hear you finally sorted out the bits you needed, can't wait to see that motor all put together :D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Decided to start slowly gathering bits and pieces for when I finally get around to the boost conversion. It's gonna take a while for it to become boosted but it's better grabbing things at good prices while I can so I don't have to later on.. so.... went out silicon shopping today :P

Image

Guy on Trade Me was having a clearance on silicon joiners as he just shut up shop and was letting them go for pretty crazy prices. Picked up 3x 3" straights, 3x 2.5" straights, 1x 3" to 2.5" reducer, 1x 3" 45deg and 1x 4" straight for $65

So will grab some alloy bends and a s**t load of stainless T-bolt clamps in a couple of weeks and start piecing together intake/cooler piping and get it all dummied up to see how things will go fitment wise. I'm thinking 3" cold side piping and 2.5" hot side with a cheap 600x300x76 cooler and a 4" intake into the turbo, should work alright for low boost.

Also started looking at turbo's during the week.. I' know postage costs for sending over the Snort turbo bits will cost quite a bit in the end, so I think I'll probably just grab a Snort log manifold and dump pipe from Geoff and get the rest of the parts needed sourced locally. Been looking around and found a supplier here in Auckland for MasterPower turbo's which can hook me up with a new MP T70 for around $1300-1400, have heard they are a pretty decent turbo and have potential if I wish to push things a bit further which will most likely happen to feed the addiction . That will leave me with other bits like, ext wastegate and screamer, oil feed and drain lines and fittings etc, 023 fuel pump, and a J3 to run the show on low boost.. Wish i had the money so I could do it right now, I can't wait

For now though, I really need to buy a bigger aftermarket trans cooler and fit it up - I can feel the gears slip slightly when I'm giving it a bit and it gets up to operating temp :|

Thanks bud, yeah these leads are pretty good, both looks and quality wise. The lead boots (especially at the spark plug end) have a super snug fit which I reckon is awesome - some leads I've seen from other manufacturers felt a bit 'loose' when connected.

Lol, yeah I want to get stuck into things now, just in case I change my mind again like I have done before in the past.. I reckon as long as I have a few bits to work with, there's no looking back :P

Sounds great, glad I got them now. Every had Top Gun leads? They have to be the worst ones available, I installed a new one, went to remove it two minutes later and the teminal and boot came off!

Plan sounds good too.

Picked up a '678' Davies Craig trans cooler kit today for the Fairmont, will probably fit it up later on today - should work wonders for the trans temp compared to things now with the s**t stock cooler.

Image

Also booked the Fairmont in for a dyno run and AFR read-out at Protune for next week Saturday. Hope nothing decides to go bang on the dyno, that's all I'd need 1 day before my 21st birthday

Sweet! How much power do you estimate? Hoping the NF will crack 100rwkw lol.

Thanks man! The trans cooler kit was $149 thru Supercheap Auto . The engine bay is terribly filthy at the moment, dust and s**t everywhere so I'm doing a fairly big clean up on it today. Might try get some better pics up later :)

Thanks Troy, luckily it falls on a Sunday so hopefully I won't end up getting too hammered as it's an 8am start at work the next morning

Dyno run is costing me $100+GST, which is unfortunate as the GST rate goes up from the 1st October. Still, it's the cheapest place for a run out of the 2 or 3 other well renowned places which were quite a bit more.

Will be interesting to see what she can spin up on the rollers :P

Haha mate, I'm estimating around the 130-140rwkw mark. At the end of the day its just an NA 6cyl with a cam, exhaust and intake upgrade so I'm not expecting too much but something around there would be respectable thru the ol' slushbox.

I reckon the NF should crack 100rwkw mate, get a proper exhaust on it and it will for sure and sound good doing so

Mate, I swear I'm the exact opposite, beers give me quite a decent hangover. Last time I got absolutely hammered with a few mates on just bourbon and cola (mix of Woody's, Cody's and J.B) but I got up feeling pretty damn good at around 7am the next morning:lol:

I actually can't wait to get it on the dyno, I wanna hear it at full noise while I'm not inside the car . Might try get a video of the run if the camera can pick up the sound.

I think it has the potential to surprise me for sure, it does feel quite strong some days and feels real torquey through the midrange, but on other days it feels like it isn't running as good as it usually does :? so it better be one of those days where it's running good when it's on the dyno lol. I'm just hoping it doesn't bring the wrong kind of surprise and breaks something at full noise

Got the oil and filter change done last night and fitted the trans cooler up today.
Modded the original mounts for the factory ext. cooler and bolted the cooler up pretty much in the exact same position as where the factory one sits, hooked it up so it runs in series with the radiator cooler too as that's what most trans places have recommended to do with a street car. Might need to spray the cooler black as the silver stands out a bit too much, but I'll get around to it eventually.
Image

Also removed the grey plastic airdam thing that mounts behind the bumper. Heaps of room for a 600x300 intercooler down there now
Image

Gave it a quick wash in the afternoon, cleaned up the engine bay and took it out for a few snaps out near one of the new local Ford offices.

While I'm here I may as well note that as of a few miuntes ago I just bought a Pioneer TS-W3001D4, kinda saw it on Trade Me for a pretty decent price and bought it on impulse . A little different from what I had planned to use, but this might actually work out better than what I originally had in mind. Will have to go looking around for an amp that put outs at least 1000wrms @ 2ohm to power the sucker now
