Yep, most likely, as is most cheap aftermarket stuff

I can almost imagine the prices genuine items would be from Ford NZ... The cheapest of the Ford wreckers around here want $45 a side for brand new aftermarket indicators and around $220 for new aftermarket headlights per side, so if wreckers charge that much, genuine Ford items would be through the f**k roof!! I'll be buying a pair of indicators from some Aussie mob that are advertising on Trade Me - $64.50 for an aftermarket pair posted to my door.

Ford parts in NZ are ridiculously overpriced. Hell, the Ford wrecker quoted me $235 for a new coolant reservoir which they bring in over from Aussie lol - I think I'll save the money, and buy a PWR polished alloy one thanks

A new Coolant tank from Ford is only $115 Retail! I can't see how they justify it, would only be $20 postage surely from Aus....

Wouldn't a Ford dealer over here be able to send the stuff?

Yeah man, Ford puts a fricken huge mark up on everything over here. Luckily I have an uncle over in Brissy so I usually get him to send me small things over. He sent us over a new coolant level sensor, $65 from Ford in Aussie IIRC - price was over $200 from Ford NZ

Ford NZ are insane, literally. The outfit should be institutionalized. I can't see how they sell anything to be honest.

What's this place on Trademe with the cheap indicators? I need to get new ones for the LTD and the only place i have found them is on eBay but very few will post out of Aus, and the ones that do charge the earth.

Unfortunately sometimes you don't have much choice as you just can't get the parts anywhere else.

I will try to do my best not to abuse the poor parts guy next month when I go into get a new EF XR6 front indicator.

I just hope my XR6 front bumper is repairable after it got torn off while being unloaded off the transporter,

The actual place in Aussie is called Kingswood Country Parts, or something like that. They go by the name of "collins2443" on Trade Me and they are also on ebay under Kingswood Country. Have dealt with them before and they were pretty good, bought a heater tap from them and it arrived within about 4-5 days.

Shoot them an email or ask them a question and see what they can do. They list a whole heap of lights and indicators on Ebay so they might be able to source something for ya

Dead right. Some parts just can't be had aftermarket which is where Ford makes a killing

How much are they gonna sting you for the indicator?

I'm not sure the cheapest Deff has found so far is about $230.00 and I guessing that's excluding GST. I will have to ask my brother what sort of trade discount he can get to help reduce the damage.

Jeez, that'll lighten the wallet a bit . I guess I'm lucky I don't have an XR then

Picked up a 2ga amp kit today, should be fine for the new install which I'm planning to do this weekend since it's Labour Day weekend.

I love the ANL fuse + holder, looks like a munted bionic scorpion haha.
Image

Also picked up some carpet for the boot install last week. Ended up getting black as that was all that was available at the local auto carpet joint, will probably have to get some more to cover everything.

Got my A-into-G this weekend and got cracking on the boot install. Haven't got any proper pic's of progress so far as it has pretty much been 30% work and 70% drinking

Gathered up a few little other bits and pieces needed for the install yesterday. Bought a fused distro block with built in digital display, couple of ANL fuses, some cabling connectors, plastic speaker cabinet handles etc from Jaycar and some 12mm and 18mm MDF sheets from Mitre 10. Piled it all up this afternoon to make sure I had everything. Most important thing was bought just before I took this pic - a box of JD and Cola
Image

So today's job was pretty much ripping out the old sub & amp combo, removing the current distro block and the power cabling running to the amps etc making way for the upgraded stuff. Wasn't a very good start when I realised that my +ve battery terminal couldn't accept a 2ga sized cable outlet right after I had pulled the battery and half of the wiring out lol, so borrowed the old man's XR and ducked down to Jaycar and walked away with a new +ve terminal with yet another built in digital display. So when it comes to digital voltage displays.. I'm fully sorted .

Had the mother of all annoyances with running the 2ga through the firewall. Didn't really wanna route it through the clutch cable hole again as it would need to be drilled out and the CBF factor was extremely high on such a hot day.. Had a quick squizz and found a decent sized rubber grommet where the loom passes through the firewall to the left of the brake booster which I thought would be an easy way through. One big useless thing was in the way of course, so it was 'bon voyage' to the cruise control unit. Took almost 2 hours to get this fricken rubber grommet out, enough time for about 3-4 cans of JD to disappear lol. Big hands + small spaces = frustration and thirst. Managed to get the grommet out just enough to cut away at it so the power cable could be routed through. Sorted!

Started carpeting up the false floor and it's starting to look alright. I'm pretty shocking to say the least at carpeting and spray adhesive is some messy s**t lol, but it's getting there. So 80% of the wiring is done, just have to hook up the 2ga to the distro block, split it into 4ga to the mono and 8ga to the 2 channel, hook up the RCA and amp trigger wire and presto. The spare wheel access cover/panel still needs doing, need to trim the edges of the cover down to allow for the thickness of carpet, make a cut out for the plastic handle and the carpet it. Then I'll make the walls, take some measurements and get started on the sub box. Heres hoping my 4 year old, POS, $20 jigsaw lasts for a while tomorrow

Uhm --- Why wouldn't the cable fit through in front of the drivers door...??

Remove the front right panel of car (ten minutes if you've done it before, twenty if not) and there's a big as all hell opening or two that can be filled with all wires of all descriptions... From there it's easy enough to lift carpet and sills and get it to the right rear seat....

Hmmm... Have not been reading this site much lately, so could have easily of overlooked the reason why you're going through the firewall... I put about eight cables through the route mentioned above last time I had any reason to remove the panel. Only used four of them so far... So there is already wires for the cornering lamp re-wire and a tricky alarm install, or whatever the hell you feel like...

It would have fit easy as if I did it through the inside of the guard, through the door etc, but I CBF doing it for some reason. For some reason it seemed easier to take 1 1/2 -2 hrs ripping s**t out and going through the firewall lol, probably due to having a few too many and being a very humid day. It was probably only 30mins of actually trying to get that grommet out, and the rest was just sitting back thinking "stuff it, lets just put a few back and do this some other time". Anyways, that's all sorted so I won't have to do that again until the battery gets relocated to the boot in the future.

Work on the boot install has resumed today. Again, its a freaking hot day. I left this little broom thing with plastic bristles out in the sun and they basically melted together, I was like fkn LOL.

Got the false floor completely finished about 2 mins ago.

Looks alright, the carpeting covers up all my stuff ups in the cutting of the MDF hahaha. Looks like I'll be short on carpet, I thought 4m X 2m worth would be enough to do the walls floor and face of the sub box but doesn't seem to be working out like I planned. Oh well, back to work we go.

Cheers fella's

Would have gone grey/charcoal but the only stuff I could get in that colour was some really thin s**t from a mob down in Chch. The guy who did my tailored mats could only supply black, but its some good quality stuff and feels "plushy" to the touch - dunno if that's even a word but it is now.

Having a prick of a time with the passenger side wall where the amp will sit. I'm about 50% of the way through it now.. Still have the drivers side wall and box to go yet!
