I'll bring over a few, few bottles of bourbon if it will make my boot look like that

Speaking of bourbon, i highly recommend "American Honey" by Wild Turkey, i don't usually drink bourbon, but this stuff is smooth as.

 ^^

I've got a bottle of Wild Turkey here (well the old man does anyway) and thats some good s**t when you want to get hammered . Will have to try that American Honey though, its a bourbon type liqueur or something similar from what I remember, will have to look it up - cheers for the suggestion

Currently doing a bit of work on the Fairmont, changing back to my chromed EF grill, spent a lot of money to get it chromed and it's been sitting in my room collecting dust . Wrapped black mesh around the middle insert and fitted it. Surprisingly it looks alright. Just about to bolt it on now so will get some snaps later. Also bought a couple of blue SMD type T5 leds for the cluster - decided to change back to blue to match the vacuum gauge as the white led's look way out of place now. Being SMD's they should be a lot brighter too.

Was going to fit the PWR tank today, but didn't want to fit it without fitting a stant style radiator cap while it goes on - yes I'm a fussy bastard lol, but I might just chuck it on anyways.

Here's a pic of the grill, bit hard to see the mesh because I couldn't get decent lighting. Did the once over on the chrome with Meguiars carnauba wax and it brought it up better than the day I got it from the platers .
Image
Looks pretty mint bolted up too, makes the front end look a bit more blingy lol, think I need a set of decent looking rims to go with it now I think . CBF'd taking a pic of it fitted as the car is filthy at the minute. I think it's about time I got a set of cornering lights too, front end looks pretty bare with a chrome grill and not much else.

Didn't get time to put my blue LED's in, but got something else done instead..

Didn't bolt straight in which was a bit of a surprise (appears that another member on here had the same problems as me too) - had issues with the rear left corner of the tank fouling on the shock tower and also with the welds for the front 2 mounting brackets that bolt to the support panel fouling on the tabs where the bolts screw in to. Easily fixed by cutting a small amount off the edges of the tabs to clear the welds and then using a stainless spacer to lift the rear of the tank up about 5-6mm. Apart from that, all is good and I'm pretty happy with how it looks :). Will get a new cap to complement the tank sometime during the week hopefully and give a once over with Autosol to try and give it a bit more shine.

I received these today in the post, Hertz HSK165's
Image

Should be making their way into the front stage to replace the Response splits as soon as I can sort out a decent amp for them :)

Nothing much else has changed with the Fairmont though. Chucked in the blue T5 SMD led's last night as well as the EL dials, much brighter and better light spread then what I had with the blue 3-led type T5's I had a while back. Just so happened to somehow tear the RPM side of the carbon fibre dials when I took them out to reposition the odometer light filter :x. I'll probably get them redone sometime in the future but on plastic sheet instead of paper. That is all for now :P

Cheers dude, that picture right there is where most of my motivation to polish the BBM came from, the rocker cover looks mint polished up 8-)

I'm kinda over the black AU cover too, looks good and everything, but it's too subtle and doesn't really stand out over the polished bits. If I ever do decide to go with a polished cover, I'd change back to the EF cover for that smooth look.. I don't know if I am going mad, but I was contemplating getting my old EF rocker cover powdercoated in candy green just last week . I was thinking something like what Tocchi did with his boosted EF would look pretty cool, stand out quite a bit and contrast well with the heritage green.

Well time for a small update I guess, even though not much has changed from last time lol..

I did start mucking around with the intake piping which didn't work out too well at all.. The 180deg bend I bought was way to big in terms of radius and I couldn't really chop it up and work out a decent looking bend off the TB, so I left it and just cut up the other pipes in an attempt to see how things would turn out with running piping through the guard for the cooler once it's turbo'd. I had already cut a hole in the guard for the previous 3" CAI ducting so running the piping through was simple. Seems there's a s**t load of room to work with so I'll be sorted in that regard. At the moment I have the piping running through the guard with the pod filter sitting behind the right front vent in the bumper.

Image
Image

Intake noise is much louder, the hollow sucking noise the pod has on idle now is border line absurd to be honest, everyone keeps asking what the f**k is that leaking sound is . However it seems to be running slightly better now, probably due to the fact that the pod is outside of the engine bay taking in air now so not as much heatsoak to contend with.

You can just see the pod filter sitting behind the right side vent - big shiny looking thing
Image

Also bought a decent looking billet oil cap to replace whatever I had before. Goes well with the rest of the polished bits and pieces.

A while back I purchased a new front stage amp. Needed something small to fit under the seat, but also something to could do at least 120~rms each channel. Decided to stick with SoundMagus on this one as they had something suitable and IMO they are great value. Picked up a 2 channel VS160.2 which is 160wrms x 2 at 4ohm (this is basically the exact same as the old Option Audio OA160.2). Should provide more than enough juice for the Hertz comp's as I have read they are fairly power hungry

Image

The week before last, I picked up a better headunit to run the show. The Panasonic one I had before was still running fine, but it severely lacked in tuning features and preout voltage was pretty pathetic to say the least. Scoped around Trade Me and got lucky with a 2nd hand Pioneer DEH-P4150UB in near new condition complete with remote, usb cable, spare wiring loom, faceplate case etc for under $180, SCORE!!. Not the best headunit out there obviously, but it has 4v preouts, sub control, HPF etc so I have much more control from the headunit.. Best part about it is the difference in over all SQ, it's amazing how much more cleaner the sound is. After retuning the amps etc and setting all the HP and LP frequencies through the headunit, it sounds 11ty million times better, goes heaps louder too. Yes, I am becoming one of those 'doof doof' kents . Picked up a single din pocket to put in under the headunit which is on the job list for today, so will get some shots later on. With a bit of luck I may be able to get the Hertz comp's in with the new amp providing I have enough time, which would be awesome so I can get them run in on the long drive out to the beach tomorrow for Christmas :)

I6 Engine bays are so tidy. :(

Corner lights and polished EF rocker cover FTW.

What is the heatwrapping worth? I might do the extractors on the Fairlane.

What were the Hertz splits worth? I'm keen to hear your feedback on them, meant to be nice gear.

BTW, a late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you mate. :D

First off, Happy New Year everyone!!

Hey Troy, how's tricks? Things are going alright with me mate, just got back home about 1 hour ago from the airport.. Left NZ on new years and spent a week over in Sydney catching up with friends and family, more-so to see my grandfather who is a bit ill at the moment sadly.. Had a good time though, but f**k it was hot..

The amp and new splits still haven't gone in yet, just couldn't get enough time to get my act together and put it all in before I left. I got about a week left before I go back to work so it should be going in possibly Tuesday.. I'm absolutely buggered right now, spent last night at a restaurant eating some awesome Chinese food, then a couple of hours spent at the bar downstairs drinking jugs of good ol' VB and Wild Turkey and Cola with the old man, my uncle and a cousin then wasting a bit of money on the pokies . I'll expand a little on the trip to Aussie a bit later on..

Cheers mate!! I'm hoping to pick up another 'coon or a 'mont possibly later on this year to use as my run about car and maybe try a few different things with it. For now, it'll be working my butt off to try and get this turbo setup done so I can get over it and move onto V8's. I get p****d off saying I want it turbo'd and it still hasn't happened lol.

Haha, that they are mate. They have so much room, tidy them up a bit, and tart up a few of the parts and they look sweet. Too bad they just sound no where near as good as an 8 though.

Heatwrapping I picked up at mate's rate's from the local speed shop. I think I paid something like $25~ for a 2" wide, 50ft long roll (needed 1 roll and about 1m extra to do my extractors as they have those really long secondary pipes and I wrapped them all the way back to the outlet flange. Then I bought a can of black Thermo-tec hi temp heatwrap spray ($15~) to change the colour to black/graphite look, this also seals the wrap after it's applied. Then a pack of stainless steel Thermo-tec wrap straps to secure the wrap to the pipes which was around $25~ a pack from memory - you could use any sort of stainless cable ties though.

I picked up the Hertz splits for $200, second hand but they are pretty much in as new condition as the dude I bought them from only trialled them for about 20 mins to see how they sounded after getting them brought in from overseas along with a set of 3-way Hertz components. He had Alpine Type X comps in the front of his car and reckoned the HSK165's had much better midbass than the Type X's. Can't wait to install them as I'm seriously lacking a bit of midbass kick from the Kevlar jaycar splits now with the new sub. Hertz gear is pretty much unheard of in NZ, no one stocks it here AFAIK. I know FHRX Studios have the HSK165 comps listed for something like $400+ RRP last time I checked, but obviously you will be able to get them much cheaper than that. Just beware of the cheap fakes that have been going around on Ebay in the past. I'll post up a quick review once I get around to installing them and giving them some decent run in time.

Late Merry Xmas and Happy New Year too ya too bud

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, as above, the trip to Aussie was great!! Mostly sunny weather, quite a few nice Ford's out on the road, lots of beer and spirits and lots of beautiful women all around the area etc etc . I'm actually pretty tempted to go back to live in Australia, the lifestyle and economy in general over there just seems a lot better than what's on offer in NZ right now.

The weather was fairly decent for the most part, the heat overall is completely different to the heat in NZ. I pretty much stepped out of the Sydney airport and was met by the most epic wave of heat I have ever faced in my life to be honest. The temp was something close to 40 degrees, but even in the shade, the slight breeze in the air made it feel like sitting in front of a blower heater. The days following that seemed to be average though, around 30-35 degrees, but not as humid and seemed to have a nice cool breeze especially in the late afternoon. It's amazing how much Sydney has changed in the 10 years or so that I have been away.

I got the chance to catch up will all the aunty's, uncle's, cousin's, grandparents, close family friends etc, some whom I haven't seen in about 10 years which was awesome. Also got to finally see and take a ride in my uncle's '67 Mustang which is a pure beast with it's revamped setup . I'll probably chuck up a few photos of it later once I find the camera. Didn't end up getting anything decent to treat the Fairmont to though, apart from a blue Gates serp belt from Supercheap lol, so that'll be something to do tomorrow morning I guess.
