s**t, its been a while.. lol

Ha, mate, they still aren't in yet!! Seriously though, haven't had much time to play with the car at all to be honest, and because of it, I've slowly been losing interest in the Fairmont altogether which is sad... Hopefully with AFD coming up soon I'll be able to pick up some motivation and get back into it.

I did manage to make up the MDF spacers a while ago to fit the woofers and they seem to fit okay now without fouling on the door cards but the door cards need to have the speaker cutouts enlarged slightly. Fitted the tweeters into the mirror sails but angle mounted them out to sort of fire towards the opposite headrest a bit better. Have decided to try integrate the front speaker amp into the boot install instead of mounting it under the seat, so decided not to use that Soundmagus amp I had bought originally. Been looking around at different amps etc so until I find the right amp (which coincidently, I may have just found for sale today!!) the front stage won't be running.

A few weeks ago I upgraded the rear speakers to some Eclipse SE8365 coax's, they are a far much better speaker set than the Panasonic ones I had previously. Should keep rear seat passengers happy haha. Have also decided to eventually get rid of the Pioneer sub and Soundmagus mono amp, in favour of something more SQ orientated. Have already bought a 2nd hand Image Dynamics IDQ12v2D4 and may possibly buy another one, then find another amp and chuck that all into the boot install, but we'll see what else pops up in the meantime.

The Fairmont is still going strong, actually plan to give her a wash today, its only been like nearly 4 months since the last wash so it's definitely due for one. I recently picked up some driving lights out of an NF Fairlane and bought all the associated wiring etc last weekend, so will have to get those fitted up at some stage too, as well as reposition the CAI duct I have in place at the moment.

Nath,

You don't happen to have a 23 tooth black Speedo gear lying around do you? I have a grey one but need a black one to suit a 3.45 diff with 16" wheels.

Hey Arron,

Sorry mate, haven't got one of those. I was after one as well when I was considering changing to a 3.45 a***. Wonder if Ford still stock them?

All good, I think I've tracked one down now. Ford NZ have them listed as obsolete. I have the XR6 3.45 LSD diff sitting there so was thinking of chucking it in the V8 Fairmont.

I tried fitting those ELGT extractors you picked up for me.... it was a fail; I need to get some socket head cap screws as the normal bolts are to big and foul on the pipes. They should be all good once bolted up though.

Ford Nz sell them as an X series part. 35 dollars or some such. Just did one for CoffoNz in his LSD'd AU2 Monty after the Ford wrecker that sold him the diff gave him a grey one....

Damn, that sucks to hear mate!! Hopefully they'll be all good once you get some new bolts for them

Hey Fiend, that's good to hear mate! I'll keep that in mind if I ever need one.

I'd say it probably is. Should be able to just change the speedo gear out of your original auto trans into the manual one, if you still have it lol.

You can use the calculator to work out what speedo gear you need or the closest one to it:

documents.php?d=30

You wouldn't happen to know the part # would you? would much rather get a new one than a second hand item.

that depends is this in the EL Ghia? also what diff ratio do you have and what colour is the speedo gear.

Its easy to check the speedo gear, u just need an 8mm spanner and crawl under the car and remove the speedo drive from the back of the auto. If you car is unmolested it should have 3.45 diff and grey speedo gear.

I have got a spare light green and a grey gear that I'm not using. I've just ordered a new Black gear from ford to my V8

No worries fella's, I'm learning stuff here which will come in handy so it's all good

Little update on the audio front...

Managed to buy an amp for the Hertz comps, an E-Audio 280AB. Pretty highly regarded amps among the high end car audio gurus in NZ. Also bought another IDQ12v2 subwoofer, hopefully will see it next week sometime. Thinking about making up sealed enclosures for them, 0.9~cuft each sub, and hopefully get a better sub stage in terms of SQ. Then I'll be out looking for another mono amp to power the 2x IDQ's, at this stage I'm fixed on an E-Audio 1000D which the guy I bought the 280AB off is selling too, so I may grab it if its still available depending on funds over the next 2-3 weeks.

On the downside... I managed to completely break the left upper most rail to seat base mounting point on the drivers seat. The bolt has pretty much forced its way through the thin metal seat base so it's freely flapping around, stupid f**k thing.. Now everytime I hop in the drivers seat it clunks upwards and when I've finally seated my a*** it clunks downwards quite harshly, like sitting on a malfunctioning hydraulic base or something lol.. Only just fixed the same exact problem with the drivers seat in my Dad's XR and now mine has gone and done the same. Also, the bodgy job I did on the bootlid with filling in the holes from the spoiler has come back to bite me.. The fibreglass has lifted up from the metal and started to break the paint away with it. Might have to plan a trip to Pick a part this weekend in search of a spoiler-less heritage green bootlid.

It's on the drivers side of the auto and about 15cm from back of the transmission. You can't miss it its the ugly box with the red coated cable coming out of it. It only has one bolt on a little metal bracket holding it in. Once the bolt is undone just give it a bit of wiggle and it is should pull straight out.
