{USERNAME} wrote: You will need to build a complete custom built adapter loom to make it work. Does you car have the digital dash originally? Also, I may have missed this, but what ECU are you using. For the cluster to work, you will need to be running an EL type ECU, which will have the DATA line output to the cluster. BenJ Yeah, being an LTD it has the crappy EA-ED half digital half analogue one. I am running an EB GT ECU. Bugger, so there is no way for this to work? |

The DL/NL/EL cluster uses the DATA line to receive info like temp and some other bits and pieces I have now forgotten, and without it will not function correctly.

Even the ED cluster will require a substantial rewire of your current loom. Ford, in their wisdom, really changed a lot of the pinouts around with the digital cluster.

Really?! But it's from the same year haha, surely not, as my cluster is the highest version available, so surely i would be able to put in the lesser version?

The two main plug shapes are the same, but Ford changed the pinouts all around, and added the extra plug you have for the Door Ajar setup.
Check the Cluster Upgrade doco in the Tech doc section for more info. I found this out the hard way when I went to plug in my adapter loom I built for my EB Fairmont loom, into the EB Fairmont Ghia loom that had the Digi Cluster. Very different. I had to completely rebuild the adaptor to suit. BenJ

This really s**t me off, nice sunny day, got out there to do the T5, but problems arise!
Bellhousing bolts up to the block fine, and cross member bolts up to the set of holes fine, but the gear shifter is out by about 5cm from the hole and the sandwich plate doesn't line up, what is going on here? Isn't this box from an AU? If so the box will be longer than an eseries one, hence the shifter not lining up correctly.
As for the sandwhich plate, is it in the right spot. It looks like it should rotate down and then fit. But if not, I would suspect that you may need an AU sandwhich plate. BenJ

s**t, i thought they were the same? I was under the impression the T5's were the same, apart from the input shaft? So whats actually longer, the box itself or the housing?

I believe the rear extension and therefore the output shaft and shifter mech.
OK. Now pay attention. Like me, you have just learned the hard way to NEVER assume Ford bits from another model are the same or similar. NEVER. I always Triple check. And even then I get caught out sometimes. BenJ

Yeah i sure am mate, i always do haha even when i check. The most annoying part is it's only out by about 5cm as you can see in the pic. Looks like i'll have to use a new sandwich plate, then cut a hole in the tunnel for the shifter. Bugger, bugger, bugger

Will the drive shaft still line up ok?

At a guess, I would say it would be too long.
You could try a sedan drive shaft as they are shorter. I would also check your yoke will fit in the end of the box. BenJ

Yea, i got the yoke with the box, have fitted it onto the shaft, so will test to see if it's too long. If it's too long, this is going up for sale.
