bit by bit, same as what I am doing. Cant rush these things yeah :P

Lol well that's what i tell my self ..... :P

Here goes second bargain of the week, apart from the $120 side skirts, this here is my next value line purchase. Picked them up today.

These cost me a grand total of $50, 2 brand new Genuine Ford Parts, EF/L door mirrors still sealed in the original ford bag, inside the ford box with the part number stickers still on. These came out of police stocks, according to the box, they have been sitting at police car HQ since 10/1998... bloody stoked with that score!!

I also have another mirror for sale if someone wants it, brand new in bag, but has no glass mounted. Ford.

Good stuff mate.

I don't think it is "THE LTD DOESN'T USE RUBBER DOOR STRIPS" I think it is EA-ED that doesn't. The EF and upwards all do.

I can get you a set of the rubber strips from an EF wagon at some stage... You'll need to put some money my way first though mate (or you may find some down your way as they are long and would require being packaged quite well so postage would work out on the expensive side...)

Did the guy you got the sideskirts from give you the BA rubbers?

They aren't a lot of use are they!?!?!

Whoopsie, thats what i meant, (EA-ED don't use them). I was actually going to email you and ask, what are they worth? Depending on postage i will most definitely give you the cash first to get some. Another thing i noticed is at the front, it doesn't sit against the front part of the guard etc, it has about a 1.5cm gap.... And no the guy didn't give me the rubbers, in fact the skirts are missing a few metal clips that hold onto the bottom of the sills... and it has a small chip out of the front which i didn't notice, but once painted it shouldn't be noticeable.

The skirts do look the goods, and i'm sure will be better when painted up!

My GT side skirts are attached on the top of the sill with some silicon urethane in a tube iirc, some form of sikaflex or something along those lines. Then just screwed into the front guard & rear dog leg with screws.

Cheers

Duuuuude!!!! Go for it!! Get rid of that jap crapper and get a real car! You won't regret it, then you will have to E-manualise it, my mate has just bought a '92 S XR8 manual, did the explorer manifold swap a few days ago, the thing goes like a cut cat effortlessly, i'm fizzing at the bung to get mine on the road!

Cheers mate, how did you go about making them look ok when mounted on the sills with Sikaflex? As the rubber strips cover up the ugly holes and joins.... I'm not too keen to go drilling into my sills so i think i'll do what you recommend and go the sikaflex way.

I do have a slight problem though, the front part is about 1.5cm long and sticks out from the front guard. Fiend, what are yours like?

Oh and i finally got some TransMax Z for the tranny, took me ages to find it, but a business down here as a drum of it, $66 for 3L :) :) :)

I'll have to take a pic, i didn't do it but the panel shop told me that's what they used when it was repaired last time due to accident damage. I asked because i need to repair my left skirt & reattach, atm it's only held on at each end & rattles like crazy!

The right skirt has a small bead of sikaflex stuff under the top lip that sits on top the sill panel, and they wiped the excess off with i think turps before it dried, and maybe even clamped it down as well. It's very neat. I'll get a pic later today or tomorrow & post it up for you. Just ignore the rust bubble in the sill if you can spot it, it's been brewing for ages, it's not serious yet but i've been too busy to worry about it.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

I am fairly confident that I detailed what the front of mine were like very accurately in previous posts. They are, within a few mm, the same situation as yours. There is a "fix" in the works, but I can't be a*** just now.

Cheers mate, they should look sweet once painted and fitted. I have just finished painting up my AU XR8 engine cover and "5 litre v8" explorer plate cardinal red, looks f**k tops! Just have to get the custom LTD decal to stick on the cover now.

Also the T5 is 99.5% fully rebuilt, only have to set the preload on the input shaft and RTV/Bolt up the case and stick 'er back in the car!! WOOOO HOOOO!

That's awesome news mate. Glad to hear that T5 is almost on it's way back into the old gal.. That XR8 cover and plate sounds like it would go great with the paint job. Look forward to seeing some pics now :P

Was meant to add them but the bloody PC blue tooth didn't want to find my phone, all good now.

Picture doesn't really show the true depth of the colour, in person, the paint is a lot darker like the car and alot more shiny. I'm not sure how these mount to the engine? the E series mount differently to the AU. I guess i'll have a play around once i do the thermo fan mod shortly.

I also need to get another tickford badge for the space in the front

That cover looks f**k mint!! The plate should go well with that i reckon. The whole cardinal red with the silver insert for the ticky badge looks great IMO, much better than the silver (IIRC?) it usually comes out in from factory

YAYAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! That's the story, well done...

When doing my input shaft I did all the calculations about ten times and then averaged the results out to come up with the shim thickness required. There was one calculation of the ten attempts that was miles out, but the other 9 were within coo-ey and three were identical (which happened to be right in the middle of the average...)

I may be exaggerating ever so slightly, but you get the picture. Thankfully when the guy in the states was asking me what shims I needed I just said a fat one and a skinny one! Worked out perfect when combined with shims already installed.
:D

Is that cover paint the same as the Tickford paint on the EF / EL six rocker covers?
It's a b**ch to photograph correctly using cheap digitals alright...!

Good work.
