Well, I've taken the car for a wee run today, a decent 30 minutes or so, goes great after doing the timing and filling it up with some Penrite HPR15.
Gearbox is good, a wee bit rattly on idle but nothing to worry about. It is hard to select gears when sitting still with engine running, changes gear great while driving and when engine off, but is hard to select reverse/5th while idling.... Got it down to the clutch, i think it needs adjusting big time, when it's pushed hard to the floor it selects any gears no worries, but i mean HARD to the floor. Will have to sort that out when i get a chance, atleast the thing is in and going well.

Well, seeing the clutch is new, it will wear a bit and make gears easier to enage, 2nd gear is a bit whiney but apart from that, gearbox is going great. Not sure why second is whining though....

I'm starting to wonder if that ECU i got with the box is any good, i had it idling for a bit today, it idles quite rough and sort of lumpy, also smells rich and the revs idle quite high, i adjusted the base timing yesterday but it appears it's forgotten the setting. When it's idling and you give it a bit of boot, it takes some time for the revs to drop back down to where they should be, and even though the engine and coolant tank are hot, the temp gauge is still showing just above cold. It did this when it was auto too.
I also noticed while watching the exhaust that every minute or so it will puff out some steam, a very small amount, just a little see through cloud.... I'm ordering an MSD rotor and cap and also an MSD coil for it tomorrow as this could help, the standard stuff it's got at the moment is worn out. It has got 24lb injectors which may be a bit much for the mods it's got, but to run the ECU i needed to put them in. Anyone got any ideas on why it's lumpy and rough and temp gauge showing cold? Below are some pics of revs at idle and temp when warmed up. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Dodgy coolent temp sensor?
That would make it think it was running cold all the time so dumping more fuel in. The 24lb injectors would be making the problem worse and more apparant.

Thats what i was thinking, it has been doing it for a while, never gets hotter than that, EVER. I was told i had to run the injectors due to using the EB GT ECU, otherwise the engine would run lean, but i'm thinking they could be a bit much for the mods done.... i have a set of AU blue tops here, would they be any better or just as bad? I'll have to sort out a temp sensor shortly... i forgot to add, i have the IAT mounted in the air intake tube, it's the AU IAT wired into the ED harness.

I'm scared to touch my car in case something breaks, i haven't found or seen another DC ltd V8 here in NZ. There's bound to be a few kicking around but as far as parts go, Nil. Plus it's the same colour. There's a couple of dumped on 19 chromie examples going around Wellington. One even sounds like a tuned 351. Same colour as yours too matey. Anyway - I'll drive the bloody car down to you for less than $1200 mate. What are you thinking? Tell me where it is and when I can pick it up. Cost you about $600 including ferry and everything I'd guess. CURRENT PROBLEMS - You need more fuel. Is the temp sensor the same as used on the I6? I have a couple in Butlers garage if that's an affirmative. MY PROBLEM - You need to set your phone to "video" and start uploading some s**t. Or email it to me and I'll upload it somewhere for you Mr Technophobe. Good it's all go matey. Adjust that bloody clutch (yes, you will think the pedal is too high until you get used to it, grimace) and don't worry yourself about anything else for a while. Just go for a bloody drive. Congrats |

Nice progress mate, and yes, you will think the clutch peddle is too high to start with.
Cheers ToranaGuy

That is very kind of you mate, i was going to buy it, but i really can't afford another 4G on the bank loan, i think i will just have to pass on the thing, can't really justify loaning the money. fiend wrote: CURRENT PROBLEMS - You need more fuel. Yeah yeah, righto smarty haha i know i do, that is one of the first problems i will be fixing at 1:30pm today (after WOF at 1pm) expensive problem too, i'm taking it for a run to Oamaru tomorrow so that should do it some good. fiend wrote: Is the temp sensor the same as used on the I6? Don't think so, it's the same as the ones used on 86-93 Mustangs, big brass son of a b**ch with a giant white plug/cap that takes up 1/4 of the engine bay (slight exaggeration). fiend wrote: MY PROBLEM - You need to set your phone to "video" and start uploading some s**t. Or email it to me and I'll upload it somewhere for you Mr Technophobe. I most certainly will figure out this.... "video" thing i will capture some footage when i take it onto the motorway this afternoon, have only been able to drive it around the block due to no rego and no WOF, that will all change as of 1pm. fiend wrote: Good it's all go matey. Congrats Cheers dude, i'm bloody stoked for a change, put the new badges on yesterday too, looks great! With the pedal, it's right up past the brake pedal, i need all the leverage i can get at the moment for changing gears when leaving car parks, it's fine while driving etc, just the initial change at idle. I have an obsession with obsessing over small problems, i think i'm just terrified i will break something/ already rooted something.

Cheers ToranaGuy s**t does it what!. I love the back firing burble they make when changing down gears coming to a stop, i have driven with my windows down all day, being an LTD it has that much sound padding ya can't hear s**t when the windows are up...apart from second gear which sounds like i have gear drives or something installed in the engine, prob' doesn't help the fact that they are straight cut gears either. I just can't get over how much it changes the car. For a stock engine with the only mods being an explorer intake with attributed maf and TB, plus injectors, the thing throws you back in the seat easily without even trying.... although, more power is much needed as always!
