When you do, can you do me a huge favour and take some pic's? I'm not sure if i wired mine up correctly, the photo's i was going off were grainy as hell and hard to see which resistor went what way and what wire etc.

Also, scored myself the meanest bargain of the century today!!!

Mint condition EB/EL GT MAF and module for $**!! I don't know if i want to reveal the price as it may invoke murder!
Hopefully that will solve some of my running rich problems. On another note, i will be removing the air/fuel ratio gauge, as it's pretty useless running on a narrow band sensor, the thing flies from lean to rich and back again constantly, never stops. Just bounces from one side of the gauge to the other. When cruising at 100km it tends to sit around about the middle of "rich", but apart from that, the needle just bounces constantly.

Finally got her back on the road yesterday, what a difference those pulleys and no viscous fan make, much smoother acceleration and the car sounds a lot better too without the "Nissan Safari" style fan noise coming from the engine bay. Piccies up soon!

Nice score on the GT MAF mate, they would go for a huge price on evilbay over here (please don't tell me you bought it from Oz and I missed it  )
overdrives and thermo's were one of the best mods I did to mine, much nicer being able to hear the sweet sound of the exhaust, without the dreadful sound of the clutch fan winding up eh :D
Loving the work your doing mate, who knows, you may even inspire me to take the Lane to the next stage now I've decided to keep it
Cheers,
Mick

Sorry to inform you Mick, but yes, it was Oz Evilbay. lol i spotted it on there a few days ago and and asked the guy for a buy it now (a large Ford parts dealer 1800+ feedback), and he offered it to me and i accepted. Bloody stoked!! I was literally jumping up and down as i clicked the pay now button on PayPal.

Yes, i highly recommend the manual conversion. In fact, that reminds me, i need to go take some videos so you can check out some manual LWB goodness. "Manualize" it and i swear you will never want to sell it, you will wish you hadn't even thought of selling it!

Nice work with the latest mods on the LTD mate, bet she runs so much better than before. Pic's (and perhaps a video? ) are definitely in order :P

Excellent score with the GT MAF, absolute killer price!! Did the seller actually know it was a GT item?

Video and pics on the way 8-)

I would have assumed he knew it was a GT MAF (they look a s**t load different to normal MAF's and AU MAF's as you can see), and he is a huge ford parts dealer, he had his bidding start at only $10, and i asked him for a buy it now price, i was expecting like "sure, you can have it for $260" but instead i got it for $39 plus post, so for $NZ89 delivered i got a mean score!! So i'm very happy about that!

He said it came off an EF about 10 years ago. So technically, going by the pic's i have that show it's awesome condition, and the fact it hasn't been thrashed on a car for the last 10 years, i would assume it's near new, give or take 5 years. Double whammy!

That MAF sounds like a great score there dude! Well done!

Anyone who has a v8 falcon/lane & converts it to manual will love it if they love a manual gearbox. My 5spd Xr8 is nice, it's nice having the v8 backed up by a manual. I just can't wait to get it on the road & really enjoy it properly. Then i know I'll be wanting more power, and the modding will begin lol. First up just like you have done, thermo conversion & under drives.

Cheers

Hell yeah man, can't go past a manual! Although the clutch thing is still pissin me off, it still catches the synchros on down shift, and some times on up shift. I've been driving in slippers lately which means i can get the full travel on the clutch pedal, when i'm wearing my steel caps (usual attire) it's harder to select gears. But oh well.

I highly recommend the underdrives and thermos dude, i was expecting more of a noticeable increase, but the ECU is still currently learning so should liven up in the next day or so. Plus it's over fueling a bit too.

Now all i need to save up for, is Magnaflow mufflers and X-pipe, and some GT40X's.

Oh here's some photo's, excuse the messing wiring (if visible), it's just there until i wire up my thermo switch in the thermostat housing (tricky wiring thanks to Timmytimtim 8-) ).

I'm trying to get my hands on an AU Tickford snorkel too, to replace the crappy E series one, and will be cutting up the airbox soon to do a Mick style conduit pipe intake.
One of the pictures shows my painted AU engine cover, i just need to get the badge for the front of it, and the mounts for it from an AU engine. I'm also getting an "LTD" decal to stick where the "XR8" usually is

Finally got some Black carpet mats to replace the out of place looking Black ones, looks much better now. And soon there will be an Autometer 5340 shift light on the steering column...... just to give it that added 50 killawasps that come with shift lights.......

Will get some vid's soon.

Mate, the engine bay and interior looks great. That AU engine cover suits it well, although it's a shame it's hiding all those MSD goodies. Those anodozied underdrives look pretty trick too 8-)

Regarding the AU Tickford snorkel, you could always grab a BA/BF V8 or XR6 turbo one. They are practically the same as the Tickford snorkel but without the Tickford wings. But if you are wanting the Tickford wings, i guess you really can't go past the AU Tickford snorkel - very hard to come by in NZ though sadly..

Looking real good dude. If my Xr8 responds like my Eb Ghia I6 did when i did the thermo fan conversion on it, I would be happy with the results. The other Xr8 that is going to be for my g/f already had a thermo fan conversion done to it, just needs new fans. I have no idea what to expect from the under drives, but I imagine based on what people say, a similar gain as to doing the thermo fan conversion. A bigger intake snorkel would be good too. But i gotta get it on the road first lol.

Your ecu should take a day or so to learn & lean out a bit. I find with my I6 ghia, after a reset, it tends to run rich for a day or two's worth of driving, until leaning the mixture off. It has the thermo fan conversion, extractors, 2.5inch free flowing exhaust, Xh snorkel & Ea intake pipe.

Cheers

The underdrives just give that extra edge, the pedal feels a lot lighter, for example if i'm turning into my driveway, just a quick flick of the pedal is enough to keep the revs up so it doesn't stall. Where as before, a decent push was required and then it would surge cause of too much load all at once. She's sweet now!

What do fans go for over in Aussie? Can get em for about $40-50 here.

You are right about the ECU leaning out a bit, it's actually looking quite good now, I've put new 02 sensors in which prob' help a bit, i was looking at the air/fuel gauge this morning on the way to work, bounces from the start of lean and sits up around the top of stoich, just before rich, which is good.

Cheers dude, I think i may just leave the cover off, it looks good enough without it imo.

I was thinking about getting a BA/BF pod box and modifying it to suit the snorkel, but that's a bit much work which i cbf doing, I'm really after the Ticky snorkel, but will settle for a non Tickford if i have to. Have you seen that guy on Trademe selling Genuine Ford ones from Aussie, $NZ85 delivered which I thought wasn't bad!

I just about got the Tickford snorkel, but the wrecker sold it with the engine, he didn't want to separate which was annoying. But oh well

Yep, I've dealt with him a few times, i bought one of those snorkels off him as well as a later model Fairmont badge for my EF a while ago. $NZ85 delivered would probably work out to be the same as getting someone in Aussie to grab one and send it over considering the exchange rate and postage costs, so not a bad price at all and fairly good service too. I think it was Darren from FTG Auto Salvage who is the seller (good thing is they are a Fordmods forum sponsor too). Funnily enough, i have just sold both of the XR6 Turbo snorkels i had on Trade Me in the last couple of months and they got snapped up bloody quick. Not surprising though, when they cost $145 new from Ford NZ :o

I'll keep an eye out for a Tickford snorkel for ya though and let you know if anything comes up, there's one wrecker up here and one in Hamilton that seems to get in a few AU XR8's and on the rare occasion a T-series. Try these guys as they usually get in the high end Fords {DESCRIPTION}

I thought $85 was a steal! Really want the Tickford badged one though... I think that fella was the guy i got my badges from too, pretty quick and well priced. Ford NZ are complete rip offs, have i told you about the $400 intake manifold bolt i was quoted?

If you could keep an eye out that would be awesome, i search trademe and eBay every day, have tried a few wreckers around town but they haven't got anything, a few AU2's at my local one, but the goodies from that are gone.

I tried fordparts.co.nz, they are also on trademe under the name ford-ace, or fordace, or something. They have an AU 3 at the moment and i asked for the snorkel but they refused to sell it apart from the engine. They sold the engine and the snorkel went with it  from what they have on their web site ya would think they have more snorkels, but no.

Have you used "Installer Services" for anything mate? I'm wanting to get my Mongoose alarm installed as it's been sitting her for a year lol, but i want a company that is going to do an excellent job, not just cut and tuck wires willy nilly under my dash, if you know what i mean, i want the thing set up 110% properly. Installer services are my #1 pick at the moment.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. $400 for a f**k bolt?! s**t, that's worse than $450 they quoted me for a genuine AU 6 headgasket which is only like $80 in Aussie. It's enough to make me want to go back to Aussie just to load up on genuine ford parts

No worries mate, I'll let you know if any Tickford snorkels pop up for sure. Pity fordparts.co.nz don't have any, of all places i would have thought they would have something considering all the tickford models they have shown on their site.

Regarding "Installer Services"... lol, thats the first time i have ever heard of them. Going by the services they offer, i reckon installing an alarm professionally should be right up their alley, I'm especially liking the sound of their 25 year nationwide warranty on installations too :)
