Dogs never get bored at barking, ours could bark at the workers next door all day if we let him

I'm having a bit of ABS problems still
Car went back to pedders on Tuesday for another bleed and put a genuine PBR XR spec master cylinder back on it to try and rectify the 'check abs' light that keeps coming up but its still there After doing a bit of road testing myself today I've found the light comes on when I'm doing between 90-100 km/h Its definitely not the pump as it still engages when the cars switched on and testing on grass with the light off it still works properly... I'm thinking a sensor of some sort? I'm currently reading trying to get my head around how to do a diagnostic test of the ABS system but I have NFI what to do lol! Obviously ABS isn't a necessity for me, it's just if my younger brother or sister drive it (they're on their learners) I'd like it to work for them if need be... Ahh the joys of car ownership

a few things come to mind.
check to see if the pick up on the sensors have metal and dust build up on them? if so give them a clean. do you have an odd size tyre or anything like that? and have you recently changed the rotors and used ef or el ones?? |

Would cleaning them with brake cleaner suffice or would I have to actually wipe them with a rag? Also will I have to remove the wheels? Tyres are all good! Yes, front rotors were changed to RDA slotted, Part# is RDA130S and as far as I know they are correct... Braided lines were also put on if this would have any effect on anything? Appreciate the help Troy!

you can remove the abs sensor without taking the wheels off, you need to get behind the stub axle or backing plate, undo the 8 or 10mm bolt and pull it out, wipe it clean and put it back in..
the rear sensor has a 90 deg bend so it just needs a little bit of maneuvering to get it out.. |

Ah thanks for that info Troy! I'll give it a go tomorrow...

Sensors have been cleaned and still no good
I've started a thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=117488 I've put it down to the sensors being faulty, although I'd really like to run a diagnostic test to check for sure... I don't know what else it could be lol! If anybodies willing to help

Would anybody be able to tell me whether the rotors installed on the wrong side would have any effect on the 'check abs' light coming on?
I have a feeling they may be installed on the wrong sides now...

So no updates, but the power steering belt came off this arvo
Probably the hardest 2km of driving I've ever had to do lol! Will be getting stuck into this a bit more now with uni over, just have to pay for rego and a holiday in December then I'll start doing little things

Unwanted update time...
I'll let the pictures do the talking lol! I'm suspecting the timing chains skipped a tooth or the top guide has snapped resulting in the timing case breaking haha! Its also snapped where it bolts to the actual block too... It's been whining away for two years or so lol, so its held up alright! It is the original block and has approximately 400km on it, 200K of which has been in my families ownership. It was kinda my fault I think, went camping thursday> saturday and it saw many skids both on tarmac and many a dirt road and got air going over a bump in the road at 100km/h lol Am I annoyed? Not really to be honest the rego is due on December 8th lol Plans? It won't be touched until next year in terms of repairs, however I've enquired about an AU XR6HP motor + 5 speed conversion for sale so will see what happens with that! I'm going to look at an EB fairmont for sale round the corner for $700 "with rego" so if it has enough rego on it and the head gasket isn't dying I'll run that into the ground haha... Ideally I'd love to buy something a bit newer, Mazda 6/3 MPS or 6Speed Manual XR6T but as always its money... I'll still be around and try and get out to cruises, probably car s*** it (how you goin Ev ) but will keep this thread updated as I go Cheers, Luke

You should get BenJ's old wagon engine on loan(actually, he has a couple) - install it, and overhaul your one, put it back in once done. Or get another low kms unit.
Don't bother with engine no change - as original is going back in possibly. Gets you past rego, and you're not under the hammer fixing a dead engine. Pull the ABS globe for rego too - BTW. Not the best fixes, but gets you through rego.

I showed it to my mate at work at he reckons that the timing chain tensioner may have let go. Same thing happened to his mates XR6T. He wasn't real happy. 60,000km on it and bent all 24 valves lol.
If you want to keep the car, I would go a low km AU route. I'm always willing to lend a hand as usual.

I gave up trying to rectify the problem and took the globe out lol, ABS isn't essential and it doesn't work too well on the older falcons anyway... I'm sussing out an EL wreck with a lowish kms AU XR6HP motor and manual conversion in it so I'm hoping that plans out! If not then I will probably park it for a while until I can fix it up properly as I don't think I have the heart to sell/wreck it... evxr6 wrote: I showed it to my mate at work at he reckons that the timing chain tensioner may have let go. (I'm not 100% sure how the timing chain works) but I'm guessing tensioners let go, lost tension, snapped a guide etc etc... I'll take it apart throughout the week I've known that the timing chain has needed maintenance for a while, just wasn't worth doing on a high km motor imo... It will be kept for now My grandmother has offered her vacant garage But as above, hoping to buy a wreck and convert it to manual at the same time... It would probably be a long term project though, as it stands atm it needs a bit too much money to bring it up to scratch again! Thanks for the support guys!

AFAIK you do have a 3 month window for a pink slip (42 days currency ??) and rego renewal (12mths rego) before handing in the plates - you can drive an unregistered vehicle straight to inspection and home - I wouldn't risk any further, all insurance is void I think, green slip (12mths) included.
Just check with RTA and your green slip insurer to confirm. BTW - from 1Jan13, no rego stickers to be displayed - unless you've been issued one with renewal.
