There was a ZJ Fairlane (XD type, 1981) in the paper yesterday, I was going to have a look at it today after work. It was $600 with rego.

Only a 6, but it would have been great for parts it it had power windows, and it's LSD would have been suitable for my XC as the XD sedans were the last leaf sprung ones.

Also the shifter, and the borg box for my XF. And I wanted to drive it around for a while too, I've always liked the toughness of the ZJ/ZK quad light front ends.

Of course I wouldn't have wrecked it if it was in decent nick, or if some else would have restored it. But it would have been nice to chuck some lowered leaves and springs in and some mags.

How do I keep missing these bargains lately??

XD VAN 82 and I put the ssl springs in the front of my AU yesterday, here's a couple of pics:

The rear is higher than it looks, in those pictures here was a head, toolboxes a bit of other stuff in the boot. I'll either be getting them reset or putting the reset ones from the XD I'm wrecking in it, they look like they would fit, but that's from a rough visual comparison..

looks awesome at the front hopefully the leaves fit then you can add the 1inch blocks and it will sit even.

Yeah, but I don't think they fit. The chassis rails and the mounting points look very different. Also I've heard they the leaf springs changed from AUI to AUII.

And even then I'm not sure AUI and X series are compatible..

Still, we'll see. I intend to remove the XD's springs before it goes to scrap anyway. And it'll make comparison easier, put them side by side.

I bought a 6" G-clamp a couple of days ago under the impression the extra 2" was enough to reach from one side of the chassis rail to the end of the bolt, it isn't by about 10mm.. :x

But I reckon that should do it, it's only the weight of the spring and the bush holding the bolt in there really..

we have a decent sized G-clamp in the shed that may work.

Ah really :P

By the way, I haven't forgotten about your car stands..

I've been meaning to ask if you still wanted to take them to scrap, 'cos I was planning to keep the dif, springs and steering stuff from the XD..

Yeah better hang onto them.

I removed some more stuff from the XD late last week:

Engine mounts
Fuel tank, and wiring looms
Rear bar
Most door latch bits
Aerial
Park brake lines from diff, so now it's properly out
Plates from engine bay
Rear sway bar and mounts
Wipers and motor
Windscreen trims
And a few more bits and pieces

I still want to strip the doors of useful bits (they have power locks, and the barn door had a power lock too), dash, brake booster, leaves and steering components. But the last ones will have to be when the car is ready to go to scrap.

Here's a couple of pics:
{DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION}

The tank is in pretty good nick, also the tail shaft is alloy of course.

I'll also keep the flooring too. It's been cut and filed nicely, also a 'capping' bit welded onto each side of the lift out section.

Also thought I'd post a better pic of the AU with the new springs in it, I reckon it looks alright. Just need to sort out the rear..

{DESCRIPTION}

I'm also bidding on two woodgrain and chrome shifter surrounds, one has rippled chroming and the other has a melted mounting for the backlight. But I've made a bit on both :P

I've bought a new complete rear bootlid number plate section for my DC with the LTD badge, mine is a bit cracked. Just got to sort out postage and wait :D

Also going to grab left and right side mirrors for my XC sometime during the week and a GS instrument cluster for $90. I've been after those items for a while, and 'cos he's coming down to the state I can actually look at what I'm buying too.

And after that I won't have any money
