As Brad said, picked up the AU which went surprisingly well considering the dirt roads and my steep driveway.
The AU's damaged more than I thought. The motor and box may have been pushed back a little bit. The left-hand steering rod is bent about 100-150mm, the sway bar mounts are ruined and the lower wishbone is cracked clean through in two places. The left-hand only had a steel rim on in, the tyre wouldn't fit in the guard with the new position of it :s I noticed the drivers seat in about 20mm from the B-pillar and there's a 10-15cm gap between the seat and console. The passenger seat's lumbar control is almost touching the console. The console is mounted on the floor properly and both seats are solid and bolts down. I think there's some chassis rail or ladder frame damage. I had a look under it tonight, there's a good few tennis ball size dents in the rails. I spotted at least one dent in the floor pan too. The exhaust is very smashed up, it's worn some decent groves in the drive shaft The right-hand rear lower wishbone is dented too, it's near the mount so I don't think its too major. I now agree with XD VAN 82's theory of the car running off the road, the under body damage is pretty bad. Also the IRS chassis rail curves inward for the shock tower, the leaf rear end doesn't. The differential appears to be an open ender too. Bugger. I'm not sure what ratio it is, I haven't looked at the tag yet. I've also added interior lights to the parts list for my AU Also Brad, I realised the most likely reason it's not starting in because of the inhibitor switch, which should have been obvious I took some pictures of the under body damage, I'll try to upload them tomorrow.

Wow, that looks like a very very hard hit, but still repairable? Cool.
I guess it's getting raped for parts? Cheers ToranaGuy

Brad and I started the Fairmont wreck yesterday, started very easily and seemed happy to idle. Considering the level of frontal and chassis damage it's a bit surprising.
It was only on for about 10 seconds as the belt isn't on and it wouldn't hold water anyway. Also some oil leaked from the cam phaser. I removed a nut from the AUI Fairmont stabiliser bar linkage, it seemed to be too small for my AUII, the swaybar mounts differently anyway so it's not surprising. I called two local wreckers to pickup one, I ended up buying one from Ford for $4. I also removed the rotor to have a look at the hub condition this morning, doesn't appear to be damaged in the crash so I'll look at removing it this evening.

I removed a few bits off the AU mont on Wednesday.
Bonnet L/H guard rear bench seat L/H front door card L/H mirror and door handle Passenger airbag A few bits of interior trim Airbox and pipes Aerial (except cables) The interior door handles are riveted on, I don't remember my old AUII handles being that way.. That's 16 rivets that I have to drill out now to swap the chrome handles into my car I also noticed the AUI doesn't have seat belt pre-tensioners. Nor does it have height adjustable front seat belts. My old AUII Forte and my AUII Furtura have pre-tensioners and height adjustable belts. Why does an AUI Fairmont Ghia not have these? I mean this the highest model car you can buy without going to a LWB vehicle, and as the series two pov-pac Forte got these as standard you would think a Ghia series 1 would have them.. I remember seeing a AU1 Fairmont (not a Ghia) only having a drivers airbag at a local wreckers. That also surprised me a bit. So I can't put the B-pillar trim in my Futura (mines got some holes in them). I'm not sure if the pre-tensioners can be fitted to the series one seat bases either. SO I might have to put my seat bases onto the seats, a bit of a bugger as it'll waste the 6-way power drivers seat. The passenger seat isn't fore and aft adjustable, even manually so it's the same as my currant passenger seat base. I removed the front passenger seat last night too. The series one may not have a sunglasses holder, but this Monty has a light on the roof under each sun visor. They'll go into my can with the sun visors too, they're felt instead of my vinyl ones. I'll also be replacing the rear lights in mine as the switches don't work too well. I was going to remove the steering wheel, but I forgot that the bit to remove the AU airbag broke while I was swapping the standard wheel back into my AU..
