cheers and keep up the good work.

I used the auto shift indicator as the source.

i havent acually seen the thing, just in the vid, but have you tryed a variable reistor?
Variable resistor wont work, it's a 240v motor. I know I can just get a smaller wheel, but I thought I might get lucky by using something to slow it down electrically.

Small update:
Payment has been made for new toy, new toy has been shipped this morning.
If luck goes my way, I might even have it tomorrow, but I'm thinking more likely Thursday or even Friday if they are slack.
Might be in store for a few late nights this weekend...

Does anyone know how I can slow down motor on that rig I made for spinning my rims? It's a little too fast for the sandpaper to work effectively.

Haven't seen your rig, but I'm guessing it's a single phase induction motor. This means it's brushless, so yeah a variable resistor won't do much. I'm thinking your control will need to be capacitive - changes the phase between voltage and current.
Might be helpful to study washing machine setups, and controllers for ceiling fans. :?:

Ok, so what was in the boxes?

Oh, just a little something courtesy of Snort and Magnuson.

I've always said I love low/midrange torque, this should have it in spades. :evillaugh

Very nice!!

For a minute you had me thinking there was a bad a** V8 motor lined up for it or something when you mentioned the old motor was out and being sold off

Keen to see how this progresses!

A V8 did cross my mind, because who doesn't love the sound of a V8. But I decided that without spending tons on that engine, the car would just look like any other V8 Fairmont.

I wanted something that would stand out, and this certainly stands out.

I could have stuck with the other motor, but decided it is worth more to me in cash form. Plus this way I get to start with a fresh, 70,000km motor as the base and if the worst happens, then I only need to chase a wrecker special to get it running again.
