I do hope so KWIKXR, I will give it a go anyway as we have 4 EA/EB/ED headlights that have s**t reflectors and so, no harm can be done
The BF headlights have broken lenses but the reflectors and the housings are good. I guess a tube of Sikaflex will be next on the list |

I'm yet to have a go at changing over the solenoids, I haven't owned many auto's. Are they are expensive and a big job? Well, I CAN get the Solenoids cheap and one of the Mechs at work is a good mate so I am sure he will change them for me, You know how it is? scratched backs and such? |

Hey guys and gals,
Just an update on Monty. I managed to get it registered after having to fix the horn and driver's seat. In the switch of the horn, the foam gasket had disintegrated and just wasn't working properly. The driver's seat wasn't properly bolted to the runners. PapaSmurf fixed the seat, I managed to swap the horn pad from Eddy. Now the bad bit. According to a mechanic at work, there's a good chance that Monty is in "Limp Home Mode". I'm sure you all know what that means, but just in case, its when there's something wrong with the engine and the car will only work to a certain degree. The idea is so that the vehicle can be driven to a mechanic to have it fixed. This mechanic believes that there are two possible causes for the problem: The S5 solenoid is blown. For an ED S5, I'm looking at $565.95, though this mechanic assures PapaSmurf that an AU S5 solenoid will fit with a bit of modification $263.17. We managed to get the one out of Monty, but the one in Eddy is different and we can't get it out with our limited resources. They are different physical sizes too. The other potential cause, though cheaper, is more of a problem. The torque converter. Evidently, its less than $150 for a reconditioned one, the problem is I cannot afford a mechanic to replace it for me, and PapsSmurf and I don't have an engine lift to get it out, so we're going to have to do it the old fashioned, damned hard way. My back is aching just thinking about it. Maybe I misjudged when I named Monty? Perhaps I should have named it "Montsta"? |

Have you run a diagnostic test on the car to see what is causing the limp home mode?
Did the gearbox work fine on the other car? If so why not swap them over?

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around! |

Well, Monty is cruising. YAY.
George and I changed the S1 and S3 solenoids in the transmission and when George set off for its first forward move in a while, there was a screech of the tyres. Then he fanged it up the road and the gears changed magnificently. I put a weathershield on the driver's door too. Um can't think of anything else, I'm too excited. |

Well guys, I finally got one of the things i wanted for my other ED for this one. I got 17 inch mags. YAY. Thankyou to ashcook for selling me his E-Series BA XR copies. They look awesome on Monty.
Here are piccies: Attachment: DSCF2023.JPG Halfway through changing them on the driver's side. Attachment: DSCF2025.JPG After having put all four on. When I put the first one on, I was startled to see not much thread of the bolt to secure the wheels to the hub, but as I kept screwing the nuts on, they did keep going for longer than I thought they would. I have two brand spanking new tyres to put on the two more worn wheels and the car is going to be lowered soon. Until then, I'm still very impressed with how they look. I'm looking to find another of these wheels so that I can have a spare, as the idea of a steel wheel for a spare makes my skin crawl.
