if you dont have the speedo plug in then your gearbox will stay in 1st. i know this for a fact as it happened to me thursday arvo, i went through a big puddle and it poped the plug apart and i lost all gears apart from 1st

Definitely put the T5 in, might as well since you can't drive it and need to swap the tranny anyway.

Not ready for the manual so i just pulled the gearbox apart...kinda.

As ppl say it didnt happen with out pictures so here you go only a couple but you get the point.

May i add that those top 2 bolts are a total jkhfuytdugytgitkukh to get off

While i had it apart i took of a exhaust bracket that wasnt doing anything because the JMM cat doesnt have the mount holes for it.

Just to be annoying the speedo does read now, will have to check its plugged in properly at the other end of the cog, check oil level enough thou didnt loose drop when i had it apart because the nose was down.

Help please,

Ive swapped the diff and swapped the cog for the speedo but now i have no speed at all.

Car runs fine, but gearbox changes to 1st 2nd 3rd doesnt go to 4th, and doesnt change down gears unless i tell it to wih t-bar.

Cog is plugged in

With the right cog i tryed both units the one from mine and donor car.

trans fluid is fine.

Any advice would be great,

Regards,

Michael.

thats how i actually want mine to be....

be nice to be able to use the pull of each gear rather than getting kickdown halfway. if only the auto understood theres a 3.89 in the back.

OK,

This is were im at so you dont have to read the last page,

Ive swapped my 3:08 diff with a 3:23, all went well took it for a drive no bad noises, great.

Went back home and remembered i needed to swap the cog so the speed was right,

Pulled out the one i needed no problems pulled out mine and only hlf ca,e out while other half fell into gearbox extention housing, made my day....

got it out pull housing back on fit the right cog in plugged it all in and no speedo...

Ive tryed both little units that the cog sits on the one from my car that i know works and the one i got the 3.23 diff out of.

Car runs fine, but gearbox changes to 1st 2nd 3rd doesnt go to 4th, and doesnt change down gears unless i make it to with t-bar.

Trans fluid is up,

Any advice/help would be great,

Regards,

Michael.

Are you sure the speedo transducer is actually working? and have you checked all the wiring and associated plugs up to the engine bay?

Is the Speedo working at all?

I ask this as in an ED the speedo wire splits in to two, one to the ECU and one to the Cluster.

If the ECU was receiving the correct signal and the cluster wasn't, the car would drive ok, but the speedo wouldn't work.

If both have symptoms of not receiving the speed signal, to me that indicates and issue with the transducer, or the wiring from it.

BenJ

The transducer was working fine in my car before the diff swap.

Havnt touched any of the wiring up to engine bay so i dont see how it could be affected, i unplugged one transducer and plugged the other in that was it.

Speedo was working when i first put diff in and went for a drive beofre swapping any cog or transducer.

Is the Speedo working at all?

RPM, fuel ect all working.

If the ECU was receiving the correct signal and the cluster wasn't, the car would drive ok, but the speedo wouldn't work.

Well it does drive ok just doesnt change gears properly.

If both have symptoms of not receiving the speed signal, to me that indicates and issue with the transducer, or the wiring from it.

I tryed using the transducer that was working in my car minutes before as well as the one from the car i got the diff from.

Thanks BenJ,

Regards,

Michael

Has the speedo gear & clip popped off the output shaft? Pull the transducer out & stick your finger in & see if you can feel the output shaft gear.

If you have the extension housing off again, grab the output shaft with one hand & see if you can turn the speedo gear on the shaft with the other?
