Hey,

Thanks for your replies XFWAGON & XR-Lane.

I have seen mechanics working with blue gloves that are skin tight. No good for hot things but good to stop grease staining your hands and easier to clean hands after. I really needed them yesterday as the degrease is a bit harsh or the hands after longer periods of time cleaning parts. Any ways dad went out this morning and came back with some, will use them when doing the dirty work on car. Don't know where he got them from but if anyone is interested ill ask him when his home again.

Image

This morning the bottom end went together

Except for the sump as it's still drying

Image

Fitted the new rings

Image

Crank went in with the new bearings

Image

After some Cylinder Bore Honing using the tools below, the pistons went in using the ring compressor and the rest of the bearings. The hose is to stop the thread damaging the bores when putting the pistons in.

All six put in turning the engine over a few times after each piston was put in just to check it was all smooth and a chance to put some clean oil on parts. You can see the top of the pistons there the only part i couldn't get these clean

Image

I finished off the sanding with 240, 400, and 800 grit and was ready to paint as it was a really warn day with no wind. I smacked the lid off as i was to lazy to go find a flat blade and the lid broke as intended but so did the spray nozzle :x . Will have to wait till i go up to the shops.

Regards,

Michael.

Yep too long.

No job, no money......

Im over it really. Just have to put the value springs back on but the tool i had broke cause its s**t old. Put head back together on and the engine. the dress the engine and get it in the car with the T5 and get the car off the grass so i can get in to figure out the pedal box. The EA boxes must be different either that or the pedals and I've only got about 10cm of movement when i compress the pedal. I even tried it when the engine was in a the booster was running. Ill get there but no time soon.

Regards.

Good news, now that money is rolling in again the car shall come back together.

I've got 3/4 of my engine rebuilt with just the head to go back together. I might hold off with that until i can get a wade 1673 for it while its all apart.

Next is too bolt the T5 on and dress the engine once i figure out the mixed up bolts for the serpentine conversion.

After that is all goes into the car and i figure out my brake pedal which is sitting up to high, i think the EA and ED ones are different and i got them mixed up.

Regards.

Neither am i, i got it the wrong way around. It sits to far back and there is not much movement. I tried it with the engine going so the booster was on, the pedal was firm but there was only 5 - 10cm of travel.

will figure it out when the car is off the grass ad i can get in it

Regards.

Hi RD,

Thanks for your interest. I have ordered a 1673 to suit the T5 i just have to make payment and send my old cam away. Im going to get the ED head done professionally, im looking for somewhere close to get it reco'd.

Today was a big day dad and i got rid of the old EF and my old EA both cars full to the roof of junk and each car even had an old motor in them. Should get some good dosh from the guys at the scrap metal yard.

My new job is going well with a nice cash flow coming in, christmas shopping is all done, including a 1673 and short shifter for myself .

I have to get this E motor and gear box dressed with the alt. a/c com. ect ect ready for someone to pick up, so that what the next couple of day will consist of since today i didnt start due to a yard clean up with dad.

Thats my rant off to work now,

Regards,

Michael.

So it's become a harsh reality that i cannot put my engine back together. Now that i have an income i really really want to get back to my car and put the engine and T5 in but........ For the life of me cannot remember what bolts go where.

All i want to do is put a serpentine belt set up on my ED engine,
and
Put the original belt set up back on another ED engine so i can sell it.

To make things more difficult nuts and bolts from 3 other motors have mixed in with the stuff from my car. I have all the parts i need and i know where they go but have no idea where to start with and what bolt goes where.

So till i figure it out or can get some help the weeds will grow over the car and my rebuilt bottom end will probably rust.

Regards.

Between my last little winge and now i came up with a little battle plan.

I have drawn 3 detailed pictures of the front right and left sides of the engine. I have numbered each bolt i need on the drawing from #1 to #31. Now what i have to do is get my hands on an engine with a complete belt set up and take out each bolt and number them accordingly. Not the fastest way but i will have the information for any later date if needed and i know ill get it right.

Regards.

Good to see you have not thrown the towel in mate.

Sounds like you should have enough bolts to do it 2 times over. So dont get discouraged you will get there in the end, and will have that satisfaction in knowing you built that engine your self.
