I just finished reading dash removal in greg and it only mentions the one main earth top and center.

Just confirmed the starter motor is getting power with a test light.

What can i check in regards to the brake fail light? Do i need to bridge something on the round Auto box loom which has nothing connected to it.

Im pretty sure we can rule out smart lock related as the light flashes then when i turn key it goes out.

I just noticed my greg only goes too EB series 1 so i might go pick up a later one from supercheap. The other one i got is 94 - 96 but only EF.

Keep in mind it should be something simple because the car started and ran and i drove it backwards and forwards too check it wasn't going to jump out of gear after fitting the short shifter.

as mentioned before 'brake fail' will always show when starting a car.

its only if it stays on when the cars running that you have a problem.

so is it cranking over or just sitting there doing nothing?

Haha yer that sounds right, its been too long since i drove a falcon, But yer it just does nothing, maybe a clunk clunk clunk noise. Maybe the starter is rooted? should i try turn the engine over by hand to see if the starter is jammed, its got EF 95 on it so its a wreckers piece fitting by someone unknown. Then again it started no problem on its trip from mel to bris

yeah quite possible its the starter motor. undo the starter and get someone to turn the key and see what the starter does. the clunking could be it engaging but the motor not spinning it.

Just an update cause im bored.

I was going to buy a MOMO knob that i was in love with but its silver not a white stitch so it just wont match, that and its $150 from the US aargh.... i opted for a plain black "pleather"(not typo) knob for $30 posted. My leather with double white stitch boot is on its way for the UK and i also got a overhead valve spring compressor and some new valve stem seals for when i change the cam.

Once the car is running 100% i will finish rebuilding the engine i was going to put in and set it up with everything ready to swap when the time is right.

I traded some parts and if all goes to plan will have some 25mm and 30mm sway barI will also be swapping the ghia's LSD for the single spinner 3.23 i got now. I had a bag of all good bushes for the entire front end argh but can't find them now argh.

Cheers.

Well.,.,.,.,.,

I been avoiding the car.

BUT... that guy on the red bike is awesome always leaving me gifts and stuff.

Pic's tell the story

Red bike man
Image

Looks good, feels good, smells like sh|t. Could have put bit more time in trimming edges and making the stitching symmetrical so roughly up with the corner of the console trim. Again could have finished the stitch at the edge rather then 4- 5cm from the top. But then again just AU$40 posted from the UK. It would suit normal length shifter good but i feel i made it work well with my shifter.
Image

I stuffed the boot with stuff to give it shape then sat the console trim on top lightly to it sat as high to the top but still filled to the trim. Then used a leather belt hole cutter thing to make the holes, only stuffed up one . I used some thick rubber and punched smaller holes in it to put it over the knobs that hold the boot in place so it won't come off with movement during shifts. After not finding any elastic i settled for the use of a rubber band to keep the boot bunched together at the top as it was pretty loose.
Image

Very happy with the fitting
Image

Yes the trimming doesn't match as its faded. I will be painted most of the dash in a black and 1 tone grey, whatever matches closest the console and seats as im not interested in re trimming seats and doors to match.
Image

Still awaiting the shifter and still looking for another set of pedals.

Cheeeeers.

So its been a while and im keen to work on the car but really just don't know where to start.

I still think that the ECU wont let the car start cause it thinks its in gear.

Theres still other issues but, something is 100% not earth little things not working, fuel release, radio ect.

Im going to tinker around under the dash.

yeah sounds a little sus as the fuel popper is a direct feed from the battery which can be popped at any time (unlike EF onwards which are timed i believe - i know that AU do this)

I have been studying these wiring diagrams in the greg but they don't tell where on the car the earths and things are. Im trying to tie a few faults together to see if they match up to the same earth.

There is a earth which comes from the fuel door release solenoid and luggage compartment (boot?) release solenoid. I need to find this and check it. Where can i find these solenoids as there not the switch they are listed as another part on the diagram.

On another note, there is a serious lack of power getting to the horn and headlights they come on very slowly and dont get as bright as they should. Most would say this is the battery but it has to be a dodgy earth.

How can i test the relays under the bonnet like for the headlights.

the relays dont fade on, its either on or off, so providing they click they work. if the headlights turn on then its not a relay.

there is only 2 earths for the dash, there is the one next to the ECU (which is for the engine side of things - there is also an earth near the aircon pump on the motor. make sure this is connected as it can play havoc with injectors and coil)

the other earth is on top of the dash with the 8mm bolt normally painted green in the center of the dash

also make sure your engine earth strap is connected. the motor wont do anything without it, but that wouldnt stop the fuel door opening.

have you swapped your BCM over yet? there could be a fault there

in regards to the earth for the buttons, they all tap into 1 or 2 earth wires that run behind the dash. they are the ones that go to the top of the dash. to trace them would require the full dash loom to be stripped.

but the headlights coming on slow tells me not enough power left in the battery. throw on a jumper pack or jumper leads to another car and see what happens. maybe clean your battery terminals
