I have always wanted cup holders as per many early E series owners, and now that the ED is finally manual i am desperate for the damn things.
I saw this at work today and brought one home. Cheap, compact, easy to install. Keep in mind i only want one for myself, no one else deserves the right to have a drink in my car . Opinions: Opened Closed Installation idea What drams/problems/ differences are there going to be with putting the EB ghia LSD Diff with ABS into the Non abs ED. Different lines or anything? I guess ill Just jump into removing it now, but i want things to go smooth when swapping it into the ED as its the only car available for me to drive these days. Cheers.

you can put the abs diff straight in, lines, brakes, ect are all the same, either remove the abs sensors or cable tie the abs wires to the lower control arms..

Only problem i see with the cup holder there, is the plastic on the lid will fatigue & break if you use the cup holder while driving. Get one from a bluebird iirc, then you can fit it into the dash where the tissue holder thingy is....

With how low the holder will be sitting ill be able to close the console lid most the way even if its a medium size maccas or subway cup, a can will easily fit.
On another note.... MY knob is way loose as with the universal fitting only 14mm goes inside the knob causing the top to wobble. This give a very insecure feel to gear changes and just isn't good enough . I have drawn up some plans for something i feel would solve the problem and strengthen it greatly. Im going to walk around bunnings tomorrow and see what i can find in the hardware section, might struggle to find the right thread to suit the shifter but ill take it with me. Worst comes ill have to find someone to machine it on a metal lathe. Cheers.

Most universal shifters I have seen come with a plastic bit to fit inside to take up the slack. I find only one issue with mine in the Eb Ghia - that it vibrates loose from engine vibrations. lol.

Well the knob was glued to the universal piece when i got it but soon came off. It tightens with three allen key screws at the base of the uni' piece.
A plastic bit like in other ones should be easy to make, but if it was a threaded piece it would be so much better. Raining so can't do much. I got these LED's i want to use in the dash like in the aircon and rear demister parts and am just wondering if i need some sort of resistors, will be a real pain if i do.

just a though it you want a permanent fix
take the shifter out and put the gear knob into the position you want turn the whole lot upside down and fill the gap between the gearknob and gear stick with fibreglass resin or araldite and leave it upside down until it sets. only drawback are you will need to grind the gearknob off if you want to change it once again just a thought so dont flame me LOL cheers bear |

Haha, wouldn't flame someone trying to help.
That sounds like a good idea. I might be able to fill it in but before it goes solid, press the threaded part of the shifter in and check on it, giving it a little tweak so it doesn't lock on and makes a thread. Cheers.

Why not get some playdoh and make yourself a little mold of the inside of the shifter, then you could find a piece of tough plastic rod, and you can turn/grind it up to be the right shape, then drill & tap a hole in the bottom. That would solve the issue. It's what I've been thinking about doing, as my shifter is annoying me from rattling loose too often, but i have more important things to worry about atm, so i just tighten it up again...

Hey guys,
I have found a nice EL XR engine with just under 90xxx k's on it and im interested in putting it in the ED for some reason What are some points i need to investigate and sort before jumping in? As this is my only car available to drive im not wanting to be stuck problem solving taking up more then a weekend before work on Monday. Things im worried about are... - Running BBM - Installing EL ECU - ED Air con lines into EL compressor - Wiring or loom differences? What else could/should i get from the car while removing the engine to help the swap? Cheers.

Use the 3 belt setup on the el motor no bbm so nothing to worry about. Psi taxi has a au vct head or motor not to sure but its running the 3 belt setup and a log.

running BBM is no different to yours, if you dont have the wiring then run it normally.
then later on wire it in. installing ECU, just plug and play ED aircon lines CAN actually be forced onto the pump without damage wiring loom - use your ED one but extend the wires to the TPS and ICS on the throttle body. i might even have a modded one here ill have a look |

If your A/C dont work just use the Serp setup and get a regas later done the track well worth the Serp from the old 3 belt setup and go the BBM its an even better mod

Hey guys,
So the EL ecu is plug and play excellent! The guys recommend one for use with the J3 as it has a larger memory amongst other things. I want the Serp belt set up as i feel its a better system plus it's already attached. If i was going to keep the 3 belt and log i would just rebuild or freshen up a motor i have here. What is it that needs to be wired in for the BBM? something to do with the runners/ butterfly's inside? Do i need to add a wire going into the ECU The air con will need to be re gasses no matter what as the ED pump will be detached when swapping engines. I might get my hands on a spare Log loom, im sure i have one here. I can lengthen Cheers.
