the bbm has a vac solinoid that goes behind the washer bottle that needs 12v ignition and a wire to the ecu..

the ed aircon line bolts directly to the ef/el pump but will need some slight,carefull bending of the metal part of the aircon line to clear the airbox...

If you don't want to add a wire to the ecu get a jaycar frequency switch and set it to 3800 rpm and use that to turn off the vac pump.

So i should remove this solenoid along with the engine? Does it have a vac pipe/tube coming off it.



Sounds more expensive and hard but ill investigate. Do i have to... build the switch or put it together if so its out of the question i think.

the jaycar unit is more effort. 1 wire to the ECU OR soldier up a complete circuit board with s**t all instructions, just throw the wire in the ECU and be done with it

In addition the EL ECU has specific fuel and ignition maps designed to operate with the BBM.

Have a look at my old build thread for my Red EB Sedan, where I first installed my EL Engine.

Like you it was my daily driver, and I did a few things in advance, like installing the wiring for the BBM and the BBM Vac Solenoid etc.

This will be a very worthwhile change, and you won't look back.

So this is what i need..

EL Engine - including air filter box and intake piping/brackets etc
EL Engine Accessories - P/S, ALT, A/C Com - All of it
EL ECU
BBM Solenoid and associated Vacuum Hoses
Knock Sensor plug and wiring
EL Throttle Cable and pedal - The pedal ratio is different to the EB
EB Manifold Loom modified for use on the BBM
EL Map Sensor
EL Heater Hoses - both as they are different to the EB
EB Engine Mounts - use yours - one of mine was broken lol
EF/EL Radiator - the bottom hose is smaller than the EB
EL Lower Radiator Hose
Selection of hose clamps

Now questions..

What's the go with fitting the EL Acc pedal

Knock Sensor plug and wiring, is this something that would usually be removed still attached to the engine? Does is plug straight into the ED loom?

The fuel lines need to be modified to match.

The diff will be cleaned and ready for install tomorrow. I have organised a ride for Friday so i will have Wednesday Thursday arvo to pull the ED apart and hopefully get it back together on Saturday and good to go on Sunday or at least Monday. If i have time, which i should this weekend, ill fit both sway bars.

This will mean mods will stop maybe a bit of painting, if anything i will source a EL motor and store it. This is because i need to put the EB ghia back together clean it up and sell it off to recover some funds and clear the yard as well as clean out some parts. This will able dad and i to drag the boat into a bigger area and commence a project for us both, a 1996 16ft Haines Signature. Dad brought the boat when it was new and it has been sitting for a while and needs to be re powered, cleaned, and re fitted electrically and interior wise. Lucky i work at a boating camping and fishing store .

Somewhere between that pick up a EL motor and get it ready including fitting my 1673 that i brought ages ago... once its running ill get it on the dyno and from there order myself a J3.

you dont need to use the knock sensor, i never did. it basically sensors when s**t is wrong and cuts the power.. but who does that s**t lol we just drive it till it blows

The EL pedal is a straight bolt in swap. Make sure you have the cable with it, as it will suit the BBM.



Actually, I am not running the Knock Sensor in the wagon. The wiring is all there, I have just keep forgetting to hook it up LOL. If you want to run the knock sensor, you will need to add another pin to the ECU plug, and the second wire needs to splice into the common ground for the engine sensors, pin 46? I think from memory. You should check.



The EL uses 'click' fittings for the fuel lines. When the engine is removed from the car, cut the fuel lines as long as you can. I used some spare metal fuel pipe to make joiners to hook them all up.



The EB lines will bolt up correctly to the EL compressor, however they are not quite the right shape to clear the EL airbox. I bent mine away from the airbox using a really long piece of timber jammed between the metal part of the A/C line and the chassis rail. Just be as gentle as you can.

with the fuel lines, i cut off the outer clip from the fuel hose using a hack saw on an angle then pulled it off with a set of pliers, this leaves you with a barbed fitting that your factory EA-ED fuel hose clamps straight onto. much easier then adding connectors

3 out of 4 ppl i have dealt with in regards to major trades or purchases have screwed me over.

The seller was suppose to send me his near new pedders swaybars that he took of his ED in trade for my spare T5. Instead i received whats in the below photo, clearly way to wide and of no use to me.

Just go get your T5 back and un-swap?
