Thanks for the kind words fella's.

Now Banarcus, we need to catch up soon as I am keen to proceed with the underdrives and would love to check out your set-up before I get them. Will also be doing the thermo's at the same time. Is there anything else I need to consider when fitting underdrives?
Might come for a spin up to Kurri on the weekend if you've got no plans, Oh and the driveway is sweet mate, got my entry manouver down pat with very minimal scraping :D

Cheers,

Mick

Underdrive pullies generally come in two ways also known as street and race. Street pack has one underdriven(smaller) crank pulley with a longer serpentine belt. The Race package has 3 pullies, the same underdriven crank pulley, a larger water pump pulley and a larger alternator pulley with the same sized serpentine belt.

IMHO, I believe people get caught up with the way these are described or marketed. People go for the "race" pullies because the name implies better performance than "street".

Let me say this, I would only buy the "race" series for two reasons: a) If my motor got hot at idle and b) My alternator was struggling in traffic and was not putting enough charge back into the battery.

The street series works well for me because I don't have a mega stereo that sucks all my volts and I don't have overheating issues, even with a 6cyl spec radiator(less fins per core) and the original s**t clutch fan. Of course, if these issues raised their ugly heads, then the "race" series would rectify these issues as the water pump(and standard fan) and the alternator wouldn't be underdriven like mine are now.

Thermo fans/underdrives would be a very easy task if done together although I've had nil issues taking my clutch fan and shroud off whilst fitting a new belt etc.

PS. Sorry if I offended any punters reading this and they have "race" series underdrives....

The 5.0L ED is a Serpentine :P Basically it is also known as a micro-V belt and it is just a single belt for everything as apposed to the 6 which has 3 seperate belts (I think).

Here's a bit of handy info I found on the Serp set-up and the ED in particular.

Hope this helps! :D

At least you got me motivated to do some more research on the underdrives Drifty :)

Are B.P.T. Motorsport the best set-up to go for? Who has these fitted?

This is what I have found with pricing
http://www.norcom.net.au/~bpt/Ford%20un ... ystems.htm

Looks like I will get away with doing my thermo's and the underdrives for less than $400. There's my chrissy pressie to myself all sorted :D

Thankyou Mr Rudd :P

PS. Started a wanted thread to try and track me down a set

Real nice photos on previous page Lane dude.

Got any fatter feet coming for the rear...? Image
Although once I started photoshopping this I realised that the car is sitting on an uneven surface and that does increase the amount of wheel arch showing over the tyre. Never mind.

I love the size of those damn 'Lanes. Similar wheel base to the wagons, but just look oh so cooler with that aircraft carrier like boot...

Thanks Fiend Dude,

Yeah I've thought the same thing after following the Lane once when the missus was driving it. But now it has Super Lows, I can only just squeeze my fingers between the tyre and guard, so, unless I get the guards rolled (not keen!) this is how she sits.

And yes, the boots are friggin massive! Always loved my big cars, wagon's included :D

Yeah - Similar issues with the stationwagons... The back wheels dissapear into the wheel arch.... Actually - all the ED to EL's do it come to think of it...

There is a little workshop next to where i work on pendlebury rd cardiff, called skaza automotive. its up the back of the new complex. He is a great bloke, and just got his dyno up and running and was keen for a dyno day etc... this si the bloke that i was going to go through, but he kept delaying his dyno install.

Maybe give this bloke a go, he def knows what he is talking about, he used to partly own TRG down the road.

Anyways let me know, and i can have a chat to him if you want.

Thanks for the above info Ben, I called in to see him today and he deffinately seems to know what he's talking about. Can't run on the Dyno until the new year though, which is understandable at this time of year, so i'm gunna just acquire all my bits I need for thermo's and underdrives and fit them after the dyno run. Wanna get a base reading before I start doing to many performance mods so I can guage their effectiveness.
We're also gunna do a couple of runs to see how much of a restriction the LPG mixer ring is, we discussed either removing the LPG or possibly looking at going for an LPG injection system, he mentioned he will be able to get much more power out of the car with the lpg injection over petrol cause you can do wonders by advancing the timing on LPG.
Looking forward to the new year now so I can finally get some figures on the Lane :D

Cheers
