Silicone is most definately your friend when getting the top hose to seal. I have never ever had a thermo switch seal without it!

The ugly sister thing... Well, if yours is a hottie (which she is) then the ugly sister ... OKay okay. So the mags weren't as bad as horn rimmed spectacles. But they are kind of like bown baggy corduroy trousers.
Mate - "WTF" should be more reserved for use about parts supplied without fuses and wired back to front! I take it that the bits wired back to front were relays? All I've managed to do on mine lately is change the headlight H4's to super white (almost blue) 5000K's. The left doors still don't lock (or unlock) but at least by unplugging them the rest of the car doesn't know they havn't locked so the other doors are now locking. I am beginning to hate all things involving handles, actuators and electricity. I also found that my thermo fans had forgotten to put their bolt back in and thus could lean back and touch the front of the air con pump with the metal of the left hand fan. This has been creating sparks... Was surprised to note that everything still works 100%. |

OK, thermo's are in and working perfectly......finally
The silicone done wonders with the leak, and I hooked up the second fan to the AC today and took it for a lengthy test run....and happy to report no more problems. Have the fans kicking in at about 1/4 temp and only ever got to about half after giving it a bit of stick around the local industrial park. a few pic's as usual Relay's and thermo switch all wired up My lovely silicone job no more clutchie or fan shroud All back together again

Next will be the underdrives. Castlegreyskull has kindly offered to machine the water pump pulley to fit and I will be visiting a local mechanic to borrow a rattle gun to get the friggin alternator pulley off as I have tried all other suggestions and the mongrel won't budge.
Underdrives ready to go! Well, sort of The problem child The water pump pulley needs to be machined out to fit And I have a new diff to fit in the near future and then it's off to the Dyno I go

Underdrives done! Well, sort of.
My water pump pulley has now been machined to fit (thanks to my mate smithy) and I have now got them fitted. Still havn't changed the alternator pulley yet, but they are only about 5mm difference in size and the tensioner soaks that up nicely. One thing I found is that the tensioner socket hole had been flogged out, so I found a cheap one on e-bay ($10) and fitted that up whilst I was at it. Amazing what a simple change in pulleys does for throttle responce and acceleration Guess which one's mine New water pump pulley ready to be fitted All done!

If you've done your thermo fan conversion, then I say go for it and fit the underdrives. If you still got the clutchie, then underdrives would be a waste of time IMO! But with both done, the throttle response has improved dramatically, very worthwhile mod for the 5.0L Mick
