What are ya doing with the new LTD Mick? Parter or a do upper?

Gunna take great pleasure in taking the f**k apart......with a f**k sledgehammer

Learnt a very valuable lesson today........never buy a car without inspecting first  You'de think I would have learnt my lesson by now, but oh no! I'm a big d***head  While the pic's on Ebay presented a fair deal for $1k, in person I'd realised I made a big mistake.

Let's take a step back and start with our first visit to Pickles to check out the black BF XR6. Now this is how cars should be purchased, go and inspect first, ask questions and then make an informed decision. Whilst it looked nice in the photo's, in real life, the paint work was all scratched from top to bottom, the rear bar had copped a pretty big wack, and the condition of the interior was nothing to write home about either. Talking to the pickles guy, he mentioned that it is so cheap because of the high K's and that it is classified as being in "unroadworthy condition" whatever the f**k that means. Basically he described it as having defects that will need to be repaired prior to getting registered. What are the defects you ask? Don't friggin know because he couldn't tell me :? Lesson learnt, not the car for me. Moving on to the LTD.

Where do I start :?: On the surface it is what you'de expect for $1K, few crapes and dings here and there, but overall not too bad. The guy selling the car was conveniently not at home when I arrived and had left his son to hand over the paperwork......OK, getting a bit suss now  Then the son says that his old man had changed the oil so that it would be OK for the run home, but then decided to mention that there seemed to be a problem with the oil pickup  By this time I'm thinking, how bad can it be, I'll just get it home and go from there. I could go on forever from here with the noises and problems I experienced on the treck towards home, but in a nut shell, it didn't make it

About 2 k's from the Morriset exit, the coolant light comes on, closely followed by the temp guage slowly creeping up, and then just to make matters worse, the engine decided it wanted to immitate a diesel engine  Result! major failure!!! I suspect that the head gasket has blown on the outside of the block as there was rusty water pissing out of the drivers side of the engine......not good :(
Another $120 and 3 hours later the piece of s**t finally makes it home......on the back of a tow truck.

Anybody need any LTD parts :P

Now that I see it was from Shalvey, it should've rung bells (Shalvey = sh*t-hole) just get pleasure from killing the bastard!

I'm hearin ya mate, and don't worry, not finished with the prick yet  But as soon as I turned right into Shalvey, I was getting a bad feeling. Now before anyone here get's there nickers in a twist, I grew up in housing commission, but this place was just freaky.
Don't worry, I'm kicking myself in the a** over this one, I should know better. I suppose it's only $1k and a few select parts sold on evilbay will recover the loss, but it has left a very bad taste in my mouth and I'm just ready to f**k sell the friggin lot and buy a Pajero

f**k, what a s**t of a day. I've had a few of those trips home from Sydney and they are not fun at all. The tow truck ride home especially leaves an extra bad taste in your mouth.

At least you did see the BF in person. It did look quite clean in the photo's. I'm curious though what the f**k "unroadworthy condition" means in salesman terms. :?

I still had the missus following me in the Triton, so at least I wasn't stranded on the side of the road, but no tools or spares I had were gunna get me outta this hole.
As for the BF, by the time the salesman tried explaining what could possibly be wrong with the car, I think he was more confused than we were :?

I know the ones mate, I'll let you know what I decide when I've had time to ponder on a day I'd rather forget. But as I think I should just stay with the "Fairlane" and get over this twisted obsession I've had with the "LTD" version, I don't see a reason why I would keep them.
I am already planning on the dismantling of this beast and putting aside the few parts I need, then the rest will be up. Unfortunatley, I will probably sell the original woodgrain pieces as well as they are probably the most valuable part on the car. As for the seats, the rear seat is in very good nick, can't say the same for the fronts though. The electrics all work, but the seat bases are a bit torn up and are covered with crappy black with pink stripe seat covers.
I am gunna pull down the motor though. Will be good to play with it and build it up myself over time, as long as the block tests out OK. :?

How do we go about getting a shell from Newie to QLD? When I'm finished stripping it down, you can have it. I would only end up having to pay a wreckers to come collect it.
I will be keeping the doors and bonnet though. Gunna have some fun practicing shaving the door handles and I'm currently trying a few design Ideas with Biometric Access Control

more hassle then its worth mick..

im also looking for an idea. im removing the bonnet release bar from the front of the car, i will be using a modified bonnet release cable that runs inside the car, but instead it will be shortened and hidden in the wheel arch so that i can still open the bonnet in the 2 stage it was ment to, however it will allow me to mount the intercooler higher having full use of the LTD grill for air flow ;)

but id love to have something electronic so i can just remote mount a button somewhere to release it.

I'll have a think about it and get back to ya! There are many different 12V locks available, the trick is to still have a manual override incase the battery is flat. Nothing worse than having an electric lock for your bonnet release and then not being able to open the bonnet to get to your flat battery :P

I've been making a few enquiries and may be able to go this d**k for selling me a deffective vehicle.
I was under the impression I was buying from a private seller, but when I picked up the car I was given 2 copies of a sales notice with a Dealers name. This is what I have been told:-

* A dealer is not meant to sell a vehicle off site from the licenced dealership (I bought the car from the guys home)
* I should have been provided with a road worthy inspection report. On the form where it asks for the Serial No. of the inspection report he has written "Renewal" ??? (It doesn't even have headlight globes because they claim that the vehicle has a kill switch wired into the headlights and the car will not run unless the lights are on  :? )
* I have correspondance via email before I bought the vehicle asking if it was in good mechanical condition (besides the obvious stated in the ebay description) and he said that it drives great on the road and would make it to Newcastle no problems. On collection of the car he said that he had done an oil change the previous day......the oil is black as I have ever seen in a working motor  also, when I asked how bad the slip was in the transmission, he played dumb and said that his Dad didn't mention anything about there being a problem with the Trans.........s**t!!! The thing only has 1 gear, 3rd.....seriously. It was like taking off with a stallie in it and was doing 3,000 revs at 100Klm/h as there was no 4th gear at all.

Now I need to talk to Department of fair trading in the morning to see where I need to go from here, but in effect I was sold a defective vehicle, with no inspection report by a dealer who was trading off site and made blatant lies about it's condition.

Would appreciate any info from anyone on here who has knowledge of these matters.

At the end of the day, I could probably make back my money by parting the s**t out, but why should I???

That list sounds correct.

Hopefully you get your money back for this Mick. If the bloke that you bought the defective car off doesnt even want to know about it anymore and plays stupid with the office of fair trading or you, someone on here should organise a cruise to his house next weekend 8-)

they did it for a guy who had his car stolen, car was lent to a mate for a few days, guy took off interstate, owner found address, other forums members confirmed the car was there, owner took ownership papers, broke into the car (locks changed) removed the ignition barrel, towed down the road, jump started the car and drove it home. the cops wanted nothing to do with it, then when the real owner got home with the car he gets a call from the cops saying he stole the car.. WTF

but i think i cruise with 30+ cars pull up out the front im sure the guy wont have any issues refunding the money PLUS tow truck fee's and fuel costs.

Bloody Hell! Shows how much cops in different areas care for cars.

I would happily make my way down there in Monti one way or another to help out a fellow forum member
