I know it sounds like I'm just having a big winge, and really, what can you expect to get for $1000, but the fact that the guy flat out lied to me about the condition it was in and was deceptive in advertising it for private sale when he was actually a dealer trying off load a s**t box he obviously couldn't sell in the yard just has me seeing red!
All up with fuel, oil and towing fees, it cost me over $1,200. The dealership name on the papers is Outback Used Cars in Londonderry. Any of you Sydney guys heard of them?

I havent heard of them but it would be well worth the 1.46hr drive from my house to the car yard just so that you can get your money back for it all. Let us know if you are going to go for a cruise down there though

Thanks Fella's,
At this stage I'll do the right thing and talk to Dept. of Fair Trading and get some advice before proceeding any further. The Car is still sitting out front of my place where the towie dropped it off, so not going to touch it until I know what I need to do. I guess the guy did me a favour by providing dealership paperwork, otherwise if it was a private sale, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Here is the first of many emails I sent about the car before I bid on it: - Dear bwheeler56, Hi, How many Klm's are on the LTD? I am located in Newcastle, so I would be driving it back, is it OK on long trips? Cheers, Mick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear mick, The car drives fine and the car has 257000 klms - bwheeler56 Click "respond" to reply through Messages, or go to your email to reply Ford LTD 1992 Item Id: 150460702701 End time: 29-Jun-10 14:37:10 AEST Seller: bwheeler56 (51) 100.0% Positive Feedback Member since 01-Nov-06 in Australia Location: New South Wales, Australia Listing Status: This message was sent while the listing was active.

On another note, the search for a car for the wife isn't go very well either. Called into a local car yard this morning to check out an EFII XR8 with 170k. Very nice car and on the surface it looked like it had been very well looked after. The thing drove excellent and had plenty of stick, actually a little too much for a stock XR.......the compliance plate had a nice surprise, Option 20
We were starting to get a little excited about the prospect of picking up a neat ex chaser, until I started looking a little deeper. Cancer and plenty of it. The salesman was trying to tell me it wasn't that bad and was only a little bit around the sill drain holes. Here I was on my back and found that the entire drivers side sill was bad.....real bad. He was trying to convince me that it would be an easy fix and they would take care of it before we collected it. At this stage I convinced the guy to get down and look at what I was seeing. I was seriously pulling handfulls of rust from the underbody along the insides of the sills A damn shame really as it was mechanically A1 and the body work was generally very tidy. At this stage he is going to talk to his manager in the morning to get approval for the rust to be repaired, and seems guite genuine in that we can inspect the repairs personally during the work, but I don't think so The search continues

This is the XR8, like I said, a damn shame. Interior is immaculate and I don't think they realised it was an ex chaser

Guy did tell us it was their clearance yard.....couldn't avoid it as the car was out of rego and we had to drive around to Toyota to get a set of trade plates I have a mate that runs Valley Auctions so will be having a chat with him as well. The right car will come along, just need to be patient.

Outback Used Cars in Londonderry.........enough said.
They are about 15mins from my joint and well known for selling dodgy , overpriced bags of s**t. In all honesty you wouldnt buy a billy cart from them. I feel your pain but Mick. It does suck buying a car that is a total s**t and is nowhere near as good as it is made out to be. Maybe they didnt know all the faults of the car as they hadnt personally driven it for a while...............

That happens mate Besides, if the seller had been as honest as he could explaining the faults with the car that any person could reasonably have knowledge of, and the buyer had been offered to inspect and test drive the vehicle before purchase, then you would have no-one to blame but yourself...................... But they new alright. I asked questions and was given untruthful answers and had I had the smarts to test drive the car before handing over the cash, then I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole. But as I had already made a commitment to buy the car, I made good on my side of the deal and can sleep well at night The "son" who did all the paperwork said that his oldman had been running around in it for a while now. As soon as I drove it out of the first street, I felt sick in the stomach and knew that I had f**k up big time, and when I stopped at the servo not far from there, my suspicions were confirmed when I seen the colour of the oil. A frsh oil change does not come out black as the ace of spades on the dip stick. Silly me thought I could just get it home and go from there but I didn't quite make it. Broke down just 20 minutes from my place out of a 2 hour drive

Bastards.. Are you going to fix it (or see if it's fixable for w reasonable amount of money) or wreck it?
It would be a shame to just wreck it.. I remember my first LTD, I paid $4000 (way too much) and it had these probs: Door locks Three windows didn't work Drivers seat need welding Head gasket Aerial brakes And a heap of other stuff, came to $4-4.5 k to repair.. It was very disappointing when I found out about all the problems. I was considering getting rid of it, but after fixing it all up and driving it afterwards I was really glad I didn't take the easy way out and sell it off. Are you going to upload any photo's of it? Maybe hearing how nice your LTD is will help make you feel better about it? :p

I don't think it is worth fixing mate. I am that dissapointed with it, I haven't touched it from where the towie dropped it off. And after sleeping on it, I'm not going to bother going down the road of trying to get my money back for it, I'll just part it out and move on.
I hear what your saying mate, and I'm the last person to consider wrecking out a Fairlane or LTD, but this one has beaten me down I paid a similar amount for my Fairlane as you ($4.5k), but it was perfect. Not a single thing was wrong with it and it has been the perfect car and is still as good as the day I picked her up (just a little lower, faster and meaner looking ) Even Shannon's agree, and I was gobb smacked when they offered to insure it for 10k Photo's may come on the weekend when I cheer up a bit and take a closer look at what I have to deal with, but I'm not expecting to find much to cheer me up. The only good part is the original woodgrain as I seen a full set sell on the weekend for over $500, so I don't think it will take much to get my $1k back.
