It's a 4 speed and it just doesn't go into third at all....straight from 2nd to 4th and vice versa! I'm thinking snapped band, but won't know till I pull it down or replace it....not sure which way I'm gunna go yet!
Cheers,
Mick

Be easy & cheap to just change the box wouldn't it?

Looks pretty clean. Congrats on getting it running, good luck with the PS. Things like that give me the s**t, I know how it is.

Thanks mate,
It is a good feeling to take on a car that has been neglected by someone else and bring it back to life.....still plenty to do, but that's the fun part.

Sad thing about the box is, I just sold my white Monty which had a good 3.9L and 4 speed trans for $330. Guy is meant to be picking it up next week, but if he doesn't turn up to collect, I won't be too stressed as I'm sure it would probably cost me more than that to find just a good trans to replace this one! and then I'll just flog the monty off to a wrecker or something
Cheers,
Mick

Mick, I have an Auto trans here I pulled out of my Wagon. It looks like it was recoed at some point as it is painted a green colour.

When I drove the wagon with the auto in, it behaved as it should and had nice firm changes etc.

Let me know if you are interested. Oh, and I will be heading up your way soon to see Paulmac, so we could work out something.

Cheers
BenJ

Thanks for the offer BenJ, I'll see how I go moving the 2 monty's on. PM me a price and I will consider my options

You see, I have a motivating reason to clear myself of clutter as we recieved notice this week to vacate our current residence and I am now going to bite the bullet and try and buy a house. But at the end of the day, I will need a new trans, so I'll see how things pan out over the next week or so.

Thanks Huggie, she scrubbed up alright!
Currently trying to reduce my 5 cars to 3 for the above reasons!

Cheers,
Mick

Small update. The Power Steering issue has been sorted. Picked up another pump from the local wreckers for $77.
Also have installed the NC Ghia interior, seats and door cards. Now the NA has wood too
As I do with all my new cars, it received a good spring clean and deodourised the carpet before the new NC interior was fitted

Old door cards are in pretty good nick and are for sale if anybody is interested

Much nicer.

Mate, you need to lose that auto gear knob. They really are shocking aren't they?

Thanks BenJ, I hate the standard shifter as well, it will be high on the "to do" list! I will get back to you as well RE: the auto box, if you still have it. Thats next on the list

So what's the story with the gearbox?

Another pointer I've been noticeing, everyone on the forums seems to be doing Auto-Manual conversion's at the moment, I don't think it would be too hard to source an auto from these forums .

Yeah and I'm the only one to go the opposite but I got 2 autos for my manual which I thought was a safe bet given how much they cost to reco.

Good work on the sportsman too Mick. Bummer about having to move house though. If you need a hand, I've got a wagon and tow bar.

I would definantly get a diagnosis before getting a new box though, if it is just bands, then I would just have brand new bands installed, along with the essential new filter and oil and away you go .

The box in it now has no 3rd gear, OK for running around town, but a real b**ch to drive if you wanna go over 70klm/h.

Good pickup with getting 2 boxes. There are a few around and I'm currently watching 2 on evilbay, one for $50 on central coast and another for $100. Also had BenJ offer me his from the wagon, so just seeing how cheap I can get one for ATM.
Thanks for the offer on the move mate, won't be for about 6 weeks but I'll see how I go.
Cheers,
Mick
