Valid point Dave. How much of that bottom end I dropped at your place is still there and do you reckon it would happily cop a ring and bearing job if it come to that?

it may be just a oil pump issue, is it worth dropping the sump to replace the pump?
although I would check the simple stuff like does it have enough oil? (im sure it would). maybe the oil filter had collapsed internally??.. my first thought was pressure switch but that don't explain the chirping noise.. |

I assume by "Chirping", you mean the low oil pressure alarm?
It could be an oil pressure sender issue, have you got a mechanical oil pressure guage to test it with? It could be that your oil has thinned out, does the oil smell of fuel? As troyman said, it could be the oil filter blocked. Try an oil change with a new filter and see how it goes. |

Trying a few things today to see how it goes will update shortly.

In the au the dash beeps at you like the 80km dte beep, ill have to wait before i can change the oil filter as i need to buy it but ive come down crook since i woke up this morning. Ive pulled the sinchronizer out to give it a more liberal going over with a syringe full of oil. The chirping sound started off very quite and then it gets louder and louder till its so loud that it over powers the sound of the exhaust, then the oil pressure drops to 0. I can drive it for about 5minutes before it starts doing it.... Ive been reading about the cam synchro problems on the tauras forums and they have pretty much the same problems, same sound and all but at this point it could be anything considering the a**hole who owned it before only ever filled the car up with fuel. |

Sounds like an oil related issue, oil gets hot, thins out, pressure drops, alarm goes off.

Is it the pressure alarm going off or is it the synchronizer making the racket?
The synchronizer makes a terrible sound that is like a mouse squeeking crossed with a bird chirping. Its f**k loud as well. Ask anyone that was at AFD last year about the racket Dons car was making cause the sync was f**k and we were waiting for the new ones to come in. When your guage drops to nothing are you getting a bottom end grumble like it has no oil pressure? It could be coincidence and your sender be rooted. Series 1 AU's as I have found out actually do have a proper oil pressure sender same as an e series. It was in the S2 onwards that they fitted the gay switch that makes the guage look like a guage but is not. Fire it up and see listen to it idle when the pressure drops off. If you don't have any grumbles better then average chance it is your sender. If you do have a bottom end grumble , well its f**k anyway so running it for 30 seconds to listen to it isn't going to make it any worse.

Its deff chirping like a few vids ive seen, im about to go put the new synchro back in fully lubed this time.
Ill let you know if its more sinister ie bottem end grumble, altho it seems to run really well with a fair bit of power now... |

If you have driven it with the oil pressure dropping off or given it a bit with it being questionable , honestly I reckon if it was going to implode it would of done so by now.
Im tipping sender.

if it still makes that chirping noise after you re fit the cam sensor, run it for a min without the serpentine belt on just to make sure its not a idler pulley making the chirp noise.... I doubt it is but it don't hurt to check?

Took it for a drive with jase, its cold out and roads are wet so i just took it easy.
Random breathe tested on my way past mounties and when i restarted the car the dreaded chirping noise started up, drove down to supercheap auto and took a shortcut through to orange grove all the while watching the oil gauge and it dropped. This time i let it keep running instead of switching it off... it dropped to the first quarter and stayed there until i drove off and pressure went back to normal until i pull up at another set of lights. As i got onto my street i gave it some curry and it pulled hard and s**t so... Pull into the driveway and let it run, i jumped out to listen to the engine and all i really could hear was the chirping sound no grumbling or grinding or anything... Turned the car off and it mad this sound of compression escaping from the sump up through the motor if that makes sense.. Took the serp off and restarted it but it still chirped so we shut it off only to hear ''pressure'' escape up through the motor.. hm.. that sound cant be right, or good... |

Btw oil is nice and golden (changed it when i did the heads) and it didnt smell like petrol.
And the oil pressure gauge sits between half and three quarters. |

just a thought, your rocker covers have no breathing ? (no breather on fill neck, actually no neck lol) so your pcv is trying to suck oil vapour, but if the rocker covers have no breather your pcv is like its sucking a almost closed bottle.. you may be hearing manifold vacuum building up in the crank case???

Jump on ebay and get a cap that has a breather line attached so it can be plumbed back to the TB again. Before you do it though, I would suggest you run it without the oil cap on, but put a stocking over the top with a rubber band on it. Don't run it for too long though, the oil vabour will escapre and make a nice mess otherwise.
But still a great way to test.
