hi mate..
the radiators cant be to much different.. as i used a ed 6 cyl radiator and fitted it to my old eb xr8 and it was a direct fit.. but i think there might be a difference if you use a ef/el 6 cyl radiator as the lower radiator pipe is smaller in diameter compared to the ed 6 and v8? |

Chucked a bit of a stereo in the old girl the other day.
Sony Bluetooth MP3 so no more getting booked for being on the phone while driving. Sony Xplod 12" sub I had kicking around. Clarian 4 channel amp. The rear 6x9's are stuffed so Il replace them when I do the boot build and make a new moulded parcel shelf. Wil most likely go Fusion front and rears. With any luck I might be able to sneak another fusion amp like the Mavs one into the ED......................................... Got a digital EB cluster on the way so hopefully that will let the EB dash harness work when I change the motor over. No oil pressure guage or volts guage. Means Ill have to throw some nice aftermarket ones in , what a pity................. Are the tachos on the digital clusters specific for 6 and 8 or do they self adjust from input pulses?

they are specific for 6's and 8's. also the digital dash WONT match up to the s-pac/gli looms. you need to make an adaptor and add door sensors etc.
i was suprised on just how good fusion actually sound. my mate bought a set of the 80 dollar splits the other day and they sound wikid |

Well got some bits organised today. Picked up a V8 radiator from an ED for the princly sum of $10. Be stuffed if I can see the difference between it and a 6 cylinder one. Who knows.
If it keeps working long enough to get the motor running in the wreck to sort out a couple of issues Ill be happy. Also grabbed a spare V8 dissy for $10. At that price you cannot say no to a spare E series electronic part! Just need the air hose between the air flow metre and the throtle body no and Im set. Once again I had one but stole it one day when I blew the one on the Maverick up while sorting out the LPG.........................

Well its all been happening here lately with everything bar doing any work to the car.
Have a new bonnet and grille here ready to be painted but they havent been touched. The poor old girl hasnt even been washed in weeks.......................................... At least it passed rego the other day so thats one issue out of the way. The motor is starting to do a James Bond impersonation and smoke profusely. It still runs but I cannot hide anywhere. Looks like Id better get cracking with the V8. Here is my dilemia. I have found out that if you used a EF EL K frame in these you can change the engine mounts left to right and add a 3mm spacer on top which move the motor forward about 25mm which allows room to bolt a C4 box up and the starter motor will clear the steering column to rack shaft. Score. I would rather go to a C4 for a few reasons. They are fairly simple and bullet proof. They can be built to take big power fairly cheap on comparision. Also I can run the Pro Matic ratchet shifter I want for it. So what do I need to change on my ED to run an EF/EL K Frame? I reckon the list will be K Frame itself Steering Rack Lower Control arms Will the struts in the ED bolt straight up to the new lowered control arms? Will the radius rods bolt up ok? Besides the fact I can move the motor and such to suit which is a big bonus to me the better steering geomotry from the EF EL has to be a winner. Any ideas or words of wisdom? Ill try and get the diff changed next weekend so at least there is some positive progress...............................

I'm pretty sure the struts from EA-EL I6 and V8 are the same, I didn't think you would need new lower control arms, but then again, I've got an ED I6, but if you would like piccy's as I'm waiting for my Head to return with new CHE Valve Seats, I can take some piccy's of my car if you like.
EDIT: The struts are all the same WITH the exemption of the EL GT, I hope I'm right there.

Thanks mate mine at the moment is an ED I6 and Im just trying to work out what is what so I can gather some bits and start this exercise.
I think Ill need other control arms because I have heard that the bushes in an EF EL are bigger then ED. That may just be the bushes but. Maybe the control arms will bolt straight in.

Hi
The control arms are quite different on the EF EL so you will need to change those. And you should also get EL upper control arms as I believe they are slightly different as well. BenJ

Well spent some time down at the local wreckers this arvo having a chat and basically my mind has now been made up.
Dunno if it is a good or bad thing but sometime in the next couple of months Ill be doing the AU I6 conversion................................................. A number of factors bought this on. For $595 I can get a sub 100000km AU motor complete less alternator. Much cheaper then rebuilding my V8 and basically the same power levels. Bang for buck when it comes time to go chasing some grunt. Because of the inherent weaknesses in the Windsor 5.0 in my opinion to get the same level of grunt it will be cheaper to turbo the AU motor on straight LPG. When it goes bang just chuck another $500 bottom end in. I reckon a turbo will be much more driver friendly as an everyday driver as well. A turbo six will be nice and quiet and not stand out in the day to day hussle to the boys in blue. But when its time to perform all hell should break loose if its done right and hopefully fuel economy should be pretty good when Im not up it for the rent. Remembering it is the go to work car and play toy. I have a habit of breaking gearboxes too. A V8 auto from the wreckers is $1200 A 6 cylinder one $300............................... Starts to become an easy choice when you break it down and think about it. I am a Ford person through and through and never thought I would own anything other then a V8 but Mr Ford hasnt really left me many options here. So the question is will the AU serpentine setup go straight into the ED if I leave the motor as I get it? Im happy to have to change power steering hoses and aircon lines if required but will it all physically fit? Will the ED dissy fit with this setup? I know Ill need an EL ECU and throttle pedal and cable for the BBM. What other bits will I need for this to resemble some form of success? Please excuse my dumb questions , I not up with doing 6 cylinder mods. Looks like the time has come but to learn.

Hello Again
You will need an EL BBM and throttle body, as the AU one is different. The power steering pump will hook up to the EB lines no probs. I have a P/S pump out of an AU on my EL engine in my EB Wagon. You can use the EB engine mounts. They will bolt on to the AU block. You will need to grind the front fins down on the AU Sump. Troyman has just done this for the second time, so give him a PM for more detail. BenJ
