Well the wheels of progress ahve started to roll slowly.
HP hungry dropped off a set of slotted front rotors for me tonight. Might get that done this weekend if I have the cash for a new set of wheel bearings and get the million other things done around here that need doing.
Also organised to get the EL Ghia ECU , BBM , throttle cable and pedal off him to chuck the AU motor in. Cheers Mate!
Of to see the wrecker to put a deposit on the motor tomorrow arvo on the way home from work.

No more chopping and changing my mind then. Time to stop rooting around and start building!

Motor has been ordered and deposit paid.
Wont be picking it up and starting on it for about 6 weeks as I need to sort some other s**t out first.
No turning back now.......................................
After thinking about it Im going to go the modified sump route. When I am getting it TIG'ed up I will have the oil return bung fitted for a future mod at the same time.

Well so much for my grand plans and no turning back................................
Yeah things changed and I changed my mind again. I think Im female sometimes.
After I had organised everything to put the AU motor in , I was in the right place at the right time and a V8 T5 conversion fell into my lap.
Well I have a windsor here and now a 5 speed manual. What else needs to be said.
The preperation has started. The camper trailer is booked in next week to have a new cover made so that can be stored outside for a bit and give me some room under the carport.
The EB Ghia donor car for the 5.0 had its date with destiny today. After an afternoon with the Stihl demo saw its in numerous pieces in the trailer waiting to go to the scrap metal tomorrow arvo after work.
Got new wheel bearings and stuff today to fit the slotted rotors I still have on my porch so the plan at this stage is to fit the V8 LSD diff and front rotors on Saturday arvo and Sunday so I can get some more s**t out from under my feet , have a big cleanup next week and when the trailer comes back , put it out of the way get ED under the carport and start the heart transplant.
Fingers crossed. Nothing seems to go to plan lately so Ill be happy if I actually get the car pulled apart to start on it without another spanner being thrown into the works.

Well I know there will be cries of disbelief closely followed by calls of s**t , but today I actually broke out the spanners and made a start.
Figured good place to start was the diff. Ripped the old 3.08 single legger out and started to put the 3.27 LSD in. Figured that while I had the diff out and access was easy that the Blue slip friendly 2.5" exhaust could go on. Only the rear is fitted and hangine free cause the V8 wont be in for a couple of weeks yet.
Every thing was going well until I hit a bit of a hiccup.
It appears as though EB1 and ED lower control arms are different. The mounts on the EB diff are a good 10-15mm narrower then the ED ones so obviously I cannot get the lower control arms in. Worse part is that the correct control arms for the diff are at Simsmetal with the rest of the old wreck..................................
So now I need to chase up some new arms pronto.
Will EA or EBII fit? Just want to know what models to look at at Pick and Pay more tomorrow or does someone happen to have a set for sale?

The other issue I had I sorted out. Seeing as though the EB1 diff was non ABS and the ED is ABS I didnt have the tone wheels on the axles. After a bit of swearing and cracking the wobblies I swapped the axles , backing plates , sensors and brake setup from the 6 cylinder ED diff to the EB V8 diff. All bolted up like it was meant to be there so Im at least happy about that.

If I can sort the control arms out I will be a happy man!

thats a bugger!!
the arms are actually the same.. its the bushes that are different..
with the lower control arms ea and eb1 usually have the narrow bushes..
and eb2/ed have the wider bushes..

as your putting a eb1 diff in the ed you will need to use ea or eb1 arms and use washers to make the space where they mount up on the body..
or you need to use your ed arms and get ea/eb1 bushes pressed into the diff end of the arms..

I believe you can use the EB1 upper arms, and make some spacers to fit either side where it attaches to the body. I think that is how Troyman fitted his EA diff to his car.

BenJ

Oh, and where are the pics? We all like to see a car in pieces.

Thanks boys for the info.
Well just to getthe sucker back on the deck tomorrow so I can move it to rip the motor and box out I will just grind off the sides of the ED bushes to get them to go in. Wont be much of an issue cause it will not be driven.
Then once I get the rest of the stuff sorted out I will replace the bushes in the rear arms. The front bushes are starting to look shabby anyway.

Ill get some pics happening for you tomorrow Ben J. Hopefully I might have a bit more to take pics of by then........................LOL

Well here is proof it is actually jacked up and being worked on.
Image

The drama I am having with the rear control arms. As you can see the ED bushes are much wider then the mounting bracket on the EB1 diff. Hopefully I should have that sorted today and the car back on its wheels.
Image

Oil leaks now fixed!
Just a small amount of grime to contend with........................
Image
Image

The enemy eradicated.
Image

I did learn yesterday that there are definately easier ways to remove the motor and box as a unit on a lowered car then to do it while the back is up on jack stands and it cant be dropped back onthe ground. Not the smartest thing I have done!
Oh well time to play some more................
