Well blow me down, never thought I would hear this from Rach. I asked her yesterday if she prefers and auto or manual... and she came back with MANUAL! So I could be changing her EL over to manual in the future now.....

Well, she failed bue slip, bugger...

Excessive play from the RH rack end
Exhaust system - muffler removed from the centre section and a pipe welded in!!!! Didn't notice that before :)

Trivial: No. plate light not working, wiper blades stuffed (forgot all about them!), Oil leaks engine & transmission

Now, I have another rack to put in, the one from Rachs EF, however I would much rather replace it with a SSPS now. Anyone got one for sale with good rack ends?

I also have the exhaust system off the EF, stock standard and less than 12 months old.

I have 14 days to fix these things and not pay again....

That's a bgger about the blue slip.

You need a different high pressure hose if you change to SSPS.
Cant you just replace the rack end, instead of the whole rack?

I don't actually, I installed an SSPS rack in my wagon and just used the standard hoses - they fit fine!

I could do that if I can't get an SSPS rack, want to upgrade to SSPS anyway so it may as well be now. Oh, and I have a Ghia ECU in it to run the SSPS.....

OK fair enough then. That's good news to me.
I needed a replacement high pressure hose a while back and went to the wreckers to find one. I looked at the differences betwen the two and it didnt look like the std one would fit, but it's nice to know it actually will.
I'm sure the standard hose is much cheaper to replace than the ssps hose.

The only thing you'll need to do is rebend the clamp that bolts to the K frame that clamps both lines.

Great thinking - I brought this up today also, and where he could get the tie rods for free :D .

Edit: Actually, you could convert the EF rack to SSPS - just need the parts, and a kit from Suzukisuper ($50)

Bit more progress on getting the blue slip. Called into Suzuki Super on Friday with snap and got new rack ends and tie rod ends, fitted those on Saturday. Stupid me managed to put a hole in one boot of the a tie rod end so I went back to Suzuki Super today to get a couple of boots. I'll fit that when it is down off the ramps.

It is on ramps to replace the exhaust. The system I took off was real dodgy, the centre muffler was cut out and a piece of 2.5" tubing welded in it place making the whole system one piece!!!!! Had to cut it out with my cutting disk! Picked up a new Redback 2.5" cat back system today from Windsor Exhausts along with a shiny chrome tip for $275.00. Got that partly fitted but ran out of light.

Oh and fitted new wiper blades to satisfy the guy, once the exhaust is on I just need to clean underneath to get rid of the oil and take her through again.

I also arranged insurance today plus got the green slip so I am all ready to drive to the RTA for the rego bit....

Good price on the exhaust RD.

Is that with a rear resonator?

Cheers

It has 2 high flow mufflers, one before the diff and one up back. It's a little different from our wagon ones, the rear one is not round. The exhaust itself was $260 with gasket and I added a tip for $15.00. Was quite surprised myself when I got the quote, mine was $350.00 for the same basic system!

Well, it passed the second check for blue slip and is now all registered. Not without an incredibly stupid hassle with the RTA.....

When I bought it the previous owner gave me a hand written receipt. It had the date, his name, my name, the car (ford falcon), how much I paid, "as is where is" on it and he signed it. Not good enough for the RTA. It should have had the VIN number and his address on it. So I drive back home (still with no plates) and go next door with the receipt. They update it with the address and the VIN and back I go to the RTA. Sorry, not good enough again - the information is not in the right order!!!!!!!!! I say it has all the info required as per the back of the rego application and nowhere does it say it needs to be in a particular order. So they go off to the supervisor with the receipt in hand. 15 minutes later the supervisor comes out and says she will authorise it this time but only because I was already sent away once. Next time it has to be a "real" receipt with the info in the required order!!! Absolutely incredible the pedantic rubbish from NSW RTA....

Anyway, it has a wheel alignment now but will probably need another one once I put the EL XR6 springs and shocks in it. Going to replace the front brake pads as well, it howls like a banshee under hard braking. Me thinks the pads are glazed, the EF recently had new pads so I will steal those for the EL.....

Cheers
RD

Not in the correct order? And a 'proper' receipt?

You have to be kidding!

Oh My God!!!!

Good news that you actually have got it registered RD.

Cheers

Nope, not kidding matey. Could not believe what I was hearing. Everyone I have told so far has said the same as you! And it wasn't just one operator, it was 4 of them plus a supervisor!!!! This is all at Castle Hill RTA.

Anyhoo, the headlights just went out when I went down the road. Gotta track that down tomorrow....

Well, I have no idea how the guy passed it for blue slip, the low beams didn't work! The RH side had a blown bulb and the LH side had the earth wire off. I reckon he turned them on and saw the parkers......

Anyhoo, fighting with the LH side bulb clip at the moment, bought new bulbs to go in and the LH clip won't hold the bulb down. PITA!!!!

She's wearing EF Fairy shoes now..... tyres are better than what were on it. Different ones again coming soon along with a lowering job on EL XR6 springs...

Image

One small problem with it though. When I first start it in the morning it fires then dies. So I keep the revs up a little bit but when she settles it drops to around 4-500rpm then goes back to 750. Only when cold, once it warms up it is fine. The EL Ghia ECU still not learnt enough yet?

Cheers
RD

Best to pinch one off another headlight - rebending has never really worked for me, maybe that one has been 'modded'.
