Finally got the EL Futura today, not a bad car. 2 Owners, 193,000K, Jun 98 Futura in Regency Red. As luck would have it we both now have an EL Hybrid powered car! 1600 made (apparently) and we have 2 of them!!!
Here's a couple of pics of the so far unmolested car: Cappa interior which throws me a bit, not sure if Rach wants to keep it that way. If she does I will need a whole new set of stuff to Fairmont-ise it like I want to, her EF is grey. The only problem I would have making it grey is the headlining, it's cappa too and the EF's headlining is stuffed. Will know more of the direction she wants to take after she gets home. I'll also want to keep the dash buttons in EL grey so will be looking to buy/swap EL climate control & trip computer for EL gray button versions at some point. The clear coat is peeling in a number of places, I may be able to rescue that without repainting the whole car. Suggestions welcome to that end.... The first order of business is to get it to start. Hasn't fired in over 6 months. Did a quick check of the oil and it looks brand new! I'll do the needed things and chuck in a new battery later this week to see how I get one. This thread will probably become the build thread for this car. I have a few plans in mind, will verbalise those later on. Cheers RD Edit: Updated milage, wasn't 167,000, it's 193,000.

Hey RD.
Not a bad looking rig there mate. There are a few Cappa Fairmonts at PnP if you are looking for the upper end stuff. Cappa can look really nice if it is clean and tidy, but I think it wears harder and looks grubbier quicker for the same age grey interior. Cheers BenJ

Thanks for the info Ben, will wait to see what Rach wants to do. I am under explicit instructions not to nick anything from it....damnit!
Found a 2 1/2" exhaust system on it today, one less thing to buy! Single muffler in the front, resonator out back. Fairly new-ish apparently.....

Ok, what I have found so far:
Engine oil is new as is the oil filter and air filter. Plugs are also new, Autolite 64's and the plug leads are Eagle 80mm LPG leads. When pulling the plugs out, 1,3,4,6 were spotless, 2 & 5 had oil on them. With all plugs out and a single plug in #1 we gave it a quick whirl but no spark present. The previous owner did mention that the coil was stuffed, I suppose this supports that theory. So I need another coil to test out the theory, something I don't have in my "stock" as such. If it does turn out to be the coil I will make sure I mount it in a more accessible place that Ford did Anyone got a spare coil by any chance? Cheers RD

Cool, chat tomorrow dude Gonna do a quick test in the morning, stick a spark plug in the distributor end of the coil lead and see if it sparks. That at least will give me confirmation of a stuffed coil.....

I just found the Fairlane dome light I bought for Rachs car (I think it was the EB!!!) and forgot it was cappa! That will be a bonus if she wants to keep it

Well, it is pointing to the coil. Stuck a plug in the dizzy end of the coil lead and zero spark. Forgot what a PITA these coils and dizzys were!
Found out a couple more things about this car. I am sure the windows have tint on them, hard to really tell under the carport. Also found it has been serviced at least up to 120,000K, thats where the service book stamps stopped. Judging by the new stuff under the bonnet that regime continued until it was parked. We will also be keeping it cappa, Rach likes it and also likes the prospect of cappa leather seats later on So now I will probably pilfer the EF Mont for the seats etc and flog the rest.... Cheers RD

If you have to do the coil do the TFI module at the same time.
They both usually go at the same time.

i would be leaning more towards the tfi module being cactus, but yes best just to replace both at the same time..

Thanks guys
Hence the reason for wanting to test another coil before buying one, if I have spark at the coil but not at the plugs I'll go for a TFI as well.... or just another dizzy
