Gotta agree. Got my limit raised to 6k and have hit it a few times with no load on motor, like missing 3rd and the occasional 1st to 2nd flat change. (Need an excuse to rebuild it but it just won't die). Sees 5500 on a daily basis.

yea, my old au engine had a wade 1645 cam and when it was supercharged I raised the limiter to 5900rpm, it hit the limiter atleast twice a day for 18 months with no failure...
I think more investigating is needed mitch..

If it was a different way then that's even more of a reason to be more careful since you weren't familiar with that way

me and my work mate thought about the possibility of detonation? and as I took off from the stop before it happened was a big cloud of black smoke that came out of the exhaust

yep I've seen that video, the only other thing is the top of the chain guide is snapped off and I found a bit munched up on the top of the exhaust side the only thing I could think of is that's got under the chain and caused it to skip but the timing was still about right when we checked it at 180 out (number six was on top at tdc)

in my opinion mitch, its a mechanical failure not a tune related one, nothing in the tune will cause piston to hit the valves..

its can only really be either a cam chain issue, cam timing, the cam it self, bad valve springs or not enough rocker/ lifter clearance..
