If the clutch cable is loose the pedal will be sitting on the floor , once the nut is tightened up it will lift off the floor , the more u turn the nut in the higher it will sit .
Something must be wrong if your pedal is off the floor and clutch cable nut loose .

Used to be the worst part of the job IMO.
What I usually do now is get some 10mm clear hose from Bunnings (5M is around $5-6 ??). Feed it through the floor at the gearshift, into the GB filler, funnel in the top, gravity feed in the correct oil amount (1.9L ??). Quick check with a finger through the filler hole for level, do up filler, job done. Jack up the RHS of the car for access and so the oil doesn't possibly overflow. Do the same for diffs, too.

we ue garden hose with a small funel, works a treat, drives so much nicer, few problems
1)neutral switch doesn't work 2)the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal is level with the brake pedal, manaul makes burnouts so much easier left a nice set of twins on the driveways |

the btr was a slug, i had an aftermarket auto cooler i noticed so i may get some lines made up for the manual at a later date
yeah i'll ask him how much he wants for it, deffinalty not very nice having nothing until break pedal, makes unhill starts a tad bit interesting |

to keep the t5 cool you will need to run the lines and have a pump, because for obvious reasons the box doesnt need oil to be pumped around it

There a rough gearbox to use . But you get used to it .

I have a 1L oil pump . Makes filling up gearboxes and diffs easy . And you can't hook up a oil cooler to a t5 . Unless you drill and tap fittings in the casing but why bother ? It's not like they overheat anyway
