That should not be a huge issue for me as both my car now and the car the looms and modules both come from have traction control. The BF also has dynamic stability control too, which is a huge plus I think. Never had a car with DSP before. A couple of lines look slightly different (brake lines I mean) so I might need some bf front brake lines too. A couple look thicker than the ones on my BA.

Incidently... If you are looking for a good deck. That double din in the pictures a couple of posts back Is brilliant. Bluetooth, mapping full integration.. very nice alpine for what it cost.

Almost forgot..

last year for my birthday I got a hand written note promising me tai-che lessons that I never actually got.

This year i bought my own present.

I'm gonna paint it the same charcoal colour as the inserts in the side skirts. I'm also going to get some bonnet hump stickers redone in the same colour. Lastly, when I put the typhoon front bar on the car, it will obviously be the same colour as the car, but I'll be making the driving light surrounds that same dark charcoal colour and also the front grills (both the main one and the big air dam one down the bottom, will be the same colour. (although both will retain the chrome around the outside.)

Should have a nice two tone look with chrome highlights. Especially when I find a BAIII rear skirt with the same insert in the same colour as the BAIII side skirts I have now.

I've also found someone that can do the TIG welding on my Subaru RS turbo water to air inter-cooler, (I need to change the size and location of the inlet pipe and block the old one.) Once that is done, I can ditch the xover piping on the rocker cover and replace it with the water to air inter-cooler. (and a cover plate of some sort to make it pretty) Then the fat front mount air to air inter-cooler can be replaced with a BF air conditioning Condenser I picked up for free. (half an inch thick and should fit over the existing one with minimal effort. That will allow me to move both my giant oil cooler and the transmission cooler down to the front air dam, and put a big fan behind them. (the transmission cooler will become a power steering cooler or something once the T56 is in the car.

Some more work done.

FG XR front passanger seat in the BA.

FG XR rear seat in the car too, (did this yonks ago but never took a pic I think.)

While I was at it, I put the BA XR seat into my EF wagon, looks tidy in there. (will look better when all ghia stuff from my totalled EL goes in there too)

Lastly, picked up something else for the BA to BF conversion... Fairmont passanger mirror with the external temp sensor under it.

Now that I've fixed the problem with my alarm going off constantly 15 minutes after arming it, after putting the BF fairmont passanger loom in. (had to put a diode on the boot light wire) I can start doing the other looms in the car. I'd like to get the drivers side loom in soon, but that is more complex because it requires all seats, the center console and the carpet come out as it has the power windows stuff running under the seats and over the tunnel.

Wondering if the FG seats will plug into my new side airbagged BF loom. (the FG front seats have integrated airbags. )

Last thing, is that I should be getting a manual pedal box tomorrow, and I'm talking to a guy about handing over a heap of money for a low km T56... Then I have to decide if I want to put the box in right away, or wait till I have picked up a BF motor and replaced the rods with some scats. I hate pulling engines out so I'd like to do the engine and box together and while I'm at it, the dash loom (and heater box mods), the PCM (to BF) and engine bay looms all at the same time. Basically I'm be driving around in a BF from that point. (will have to get a BF version of my tune immediately to put on the BF Fairmont PCM.) my car will then be a BA/BF version of a G6E Turbo if they had had such a thing back then. :-)


Progress is slow, but I'm getting there.

Looking at the double DIN... Parrot make a unit that is JUST short enough to fit into the dash... Runs Android and offers all the natural perks that come with android including wifi and the like... Downside is Parrot couldn't get a licence for the play store... But I found a way around that so I could still download Sygic and use that for sat nav... Here is my progress with it (more in build thread)...

Also because it's shorter this ICC is an inch and half shorter than before... So the original screen can go down the bottom and hopefully I still end up with something that resembles a pocket... Hasn't been hard, but has been a labour of love... This completely replaces the ICC audio, I have removed stuff on the top bridging board like the original amplifier and the headunit drives the speakers like it would in any other install, but remains contained to a removable module still (see the wiring loom) and currently I am just integrating the remote control interface for the wheel buttons and sanding the high fill on the top piece...

no worries mate, I ask a lot myself.

Just dug up one of the can, I think I used 6 or 8 cans of VHT Vinyl dye spray cans (says under the name that it's good for cloth and carpet too) . I used the stuff because it soaked into the foam underneath and went hard, meaning the foam is now reinforced and unlikely to fail like so many do in Falcons. And so far it has not failed. When I got it out, I also used contact cement around the edges of the front and back of the hood linking because that is usually where they start coming away.

As for how to get the plugs out, stick a flat screwdriver under the hood linking near the plugs and work it across till its practically under the plugs edge, except between the metal of the roof and the hood linking.. then lever it gently out,, the plug will come out and you won't have manked up the hood lining doing it. easy peasy. :-)

I don't have any vids of using FMP, but it's really very easy so I doubt you'll need one. AS for the VCM, I had one and yes you can do PATS resets and stuff with it.. but the hacked ones don't connect back to ford so you can't update tunes and stuff.. the mongoose and FMP can, and it can work with Binary Edit too..

That is going to look awesome Tim, very tidy. I'm a huge android fan and have once or twice rolled my own ROMS, but it's not really what I want in the main system mostly because of the Binary edit stuff I need to use. However I have an old 5 inch screened Android phone and I'm going to put a really cut down ROM on it with no phone functionality at all (or wireless) only bluetooth and Torque.. and I'm going to make a pop up housing where the Fairmont clock is now, that will show the phone as basically just a
Torque dashboard with a clock in it.. one that pops up automatically when the car is in accessories or ignition. (always loved popup stuff for some reason)


As for my mate with the dbl din, he just wanted a quick and easy install of the double din he picked up from ebay (pioneer). Westside said they couldn't install it there, so I did it for him. (used to do that sort of thing for a job for many years)

I myself am going the way of full carpoota. Initially by putting a laptop under the seat and hooked up to the now ICC touchscreen (and I have little bluetooth keyboard with touchpad too) and another higher res screen I'm putting in the sun visor for binary edit stuff and anything else that won't work well on the low res ICC screen.

Knowing what I now know about ODB2, If I ever get time, what I'd like to do, is remove the whole ICC except for the outside edge of plastic, and replace it with a 12-14 inch widescreen touchscreen monitor in portrait mode, (higher than wide) Linked to a computer that would sit behind it and replace the while unit hardware (stacker, and heater controls amp, everything) by linking it to the cars bus system via the same plug the ICC uses to connect to the BEM, I could design my own complete touchscreen interface to the all of the functions of the current ICC, and any other functions for which there are ODB2 codes.. the end result being that the whole ICC is just a big touchscreen with whatever display you want (or changing based on weather or light/dark or whatever). For example I could have tabs along the top.. the default tab would be basic heater controls and stuff like the default ICC, the next tab would be Media center and nav, the next tab could be system info and diagnostic info from the ODB2 system, the next tab could open Binary edit etc etc... the world is then your oyster.. plus it would look really cool. :-)

One thing that always peeves me is the traction control coming on at low speed, using ODB2 I can have my carpoota send the signal that turns off the TC until the speed is over say 20 km.. that way the tiniest bit of slip around a corner doesn't cause the engine to break down. Just an example of the things you could use it for.

New toy:

Manual Pedal box from a BA XR... with clutch master cylinder and looms. (the steering column is one I am repairing for someone.. (key isn't spring loaded)

Also may have sourced a flywheel if the T5 and T56 really can use the same clutch and flywheel as each other. Now just need the box the rear mount, the tailshaft adaptor and a manual tune. :-)

Oh, and a clutch that can handle a 16PSI XR6T engine. There is one in gumtree for 2500 that has a nearly new button clutch and a hurst shifter and another one that has low km.. but nothing included for $1200.. trying to decide what to do as 2.5k is really more than I'd wanted to spend... but a good clutch for my power levels costs a fair bit anyway, so the 1200 T56 might have cost me the same amount by the time I've got all the other bits I need.

I also bought a headphone preamp from ebay and a RCA noise suppressor/ground loop isolator.. going to get rid of the engine noise from my auxiliary in.

In other news..
I've just checked the BF PCM I have and it does appear to have all the turbo pins so I should be able to put a custom BF turbo tune on it! Hopefully I'll be able to rig something up so I'll be able to flash it outside of the car as I want to have as much of the work pre-done so when the time comes, I pull the engine and dash and seats out.. change the dash wiring right side loom, the ABS unit and engine bay wiring (including removing the turbo loom from the BA loom to move use with the fairmont loom) and then put the T56 and engine in and change all the other looms too. I have a clutch and flywheel for the manual now too, Looking for a better clutch though.. This one won't handle the power and I don't want to pull the box out again any-time soon.

And I've just bought the BF turbo front brake calliper mounts and disks so shortly I'll have 328mm front disks to go with the Territory rears.

Also used my mongoose to put a Premium98 turn on my mates non turbo falcon.. made a noticeable difference too, not bad at all.

sort of, just to ba fairmont ghia spec less the side airbags tho, have come across a few of my looms (door ones they still work lol) that start with 5R29, thought all ba started with 3R23

also Do you have the courtesy in the front doors? thinking of adding them and would like measurements to where they go.

my build has hit a bit of a stand still lack of work for a few weeks had been killer have done a few little things. would like to have more done but slow and steady is better i guess

If you are upgrading to fairmont/ghia, you will still need the passanger side mirror from a fairmont, (external temp sensor) the passanger door loom and most likely the dash loom, in addition to a few bits of the fairmont heater box.. (to convert the whole thing to dual zone climate control) Unless you are adding the reverse sensors or premium sound or airbags or electric seats etc, I'm not sure you actually need to do the size looms.

Small upgrade.

BF turbo front brakes and lovely slotted/dimpled 322mm disks.

Fills up the wheels a bit better than before.. hard to tell with my rims though. definitely feels better too. want to replace all fluid after I put the BF ABS module in as well as putting the BF booster in as something is wrong with mine. (one in 100 brakes has no power assistance)
