Two trains of thought on the column. Three actually.

1. Cut / Shut the end of it - carefull measurement (including any changes you make to the Column Mounts) and weld the XF End on. Alinment issues, potential ADR Issues (Weld steering shaft)
2. Pull the Bottom Shaft out of the column, and put the XF Lower shaft in (it fits!). not sure if it will be long enough. You'll also have some issue with the bush at the bottom of the column (will smash when you seperate it) but you can but an aftermarket one now... if you know where to go.
3. Go with the XG column - unless you need something EF Specific. Use a boss kit, get a decent steering wheel. Its longer so it will fit right.

If you go with an e series column you'll need to figure out a way to cover the bottom of the shaft (its different altogether) and you may want to consider stopping the depth adjustability to reduce wear on the coupling.

Im going to use the NC Column, modified, adding the XF Bottom shaft cover. For now anyway

A couple of other quick things Ive noticed. The bolts to mount the steering column are 4cm further out on an E Series - and the Steering Shaft will be too short without a cut/shut ;)

Any more details on your conversion?

Ok. I got through two of the problems today.

1. Pedal box : I have a Half XF half EB one now

2. Demist Outlet Motor : Modified to allow Dual Selection (Foot and Demist)

Hows yours coming along?

Well done - so you've cut the mounting section off an E series duct, and glued it to the X series duct, and fitted the dual vacuum actuator (yellow and tan lines) ???

No Glue involved - I drilled the original mount off (its a plate), and used that as a template to make two new plates. One on the inside, and one on the outside.

So I have Plate, XF Duct, EB Duct Mount, and another plate.

Its held on with 4 Rivets - 3 in the factory locations, and one additional one. Will see how it holds up.

Hmm - had to update the demister vent, so thought Id better update here as well.

The original "hack" meant that I would have had clearance problems on the heater box : one of the mounting posts would require plastic cut away from the box.

Ive redone it (as below). Total cost : $4. 3 90deg angle brackets from bunnings, a hose clamp, and some rivets. now clears everything.

That's some good ideas there - the jubilee clip gives you a range of adjustment for the actuator as well.
I need to pull out my XH heaterbox, and replace it with an ED one, so a good time to do same.

The ED Box is identical to the XF onward one

Seems they are :
XD/E
XF/EA/EB/ED
EF/EL

3 boxes, although in inspection last the XF Style and EF style are compatible - theres just a few little changes. The XF Box has one post which might need to be cut off for an EB, and the EF/EL one has 2 additional channels under the A/C Evap core, and has deleted two of the screw points for the XF Ghia Servo (which is under the box)
