Can't remember how much they took off but a shaved head and new gasket will breathe life into any car i guess haha no complaints.

I posted this in another thread of mine which will no doubt disappear so here it is again

Got a spare flywheel lightened and picked it up Friday just gone, cost $120 but still needs to be balanced.
They couldn't tell me what the weights were so i took it back to my office at work and weighed it there.



turned out to be 9kg, that's a 2.8kg reduction right?
Not sure if that's a little excessive or not.. the aftermarket light flywheels seem to be around 9.4kg

yeah ....... shiiit happens. always best to have the $$ first to help maybe wrangle a betterer deal. but such is life

also have someone checkout car [ie good mechanic/racv etc etc] so you know what's right/wrong with car. coz ya never know

good point, I wouldn't have bought it blind especially not if i thought it was clapped out.

10k might seem a little much to some for a BA xr8 and i wouldn't mind opinions on that too.
But I've looked at mostly all of them in that price range on carsales, there's plenty for cheaper but they just don't seem to 'pop' for lack of a better word.

Some have photos where you can see the grass is nice and green and great detail in the general area but the paintwork on the car looks dull, it doesn't look out of focus or anything the car just looks dull.
And any ad that has photos with Instagram filters on them I skip, i just feel that if they can't upload a picture of what the actual car looks like then how are we meant to know what they're trying to sell.

I don't want a car that looks sick on Facebook, I don't even have Facebook lol.

By the way, I hope you got your tensioner sorted!

My coil finally turned up from the USA.
Certainly looks the part haha and you know they mean business when it's labelled as "Lethal Voltage" and not "High Voltage"

So last Friday my clutch cable snapped
Instead of buying a new cable and clutch fork insulator I decided I would get the hydraulic pedal assembly and throw-out bearing from MalWoodAuto

It arrived today and I must say, it's definitely the nicest gear I've ever bought for my EB.
Finish is excellent, hopefully the fit is excellent too but i have no doubts. Props to the MalWoodAuto guys.





I plan to hassle the Auto teacher at a local high school i work at to borrow the Auto sheds for the night.
Am definitely keen to get the hydraulics, lightened flywheel and new clutch in tonight.

interesting bit of kit ...... does the clutch pedal mount via the pivot point of the old clutch pedal? how does the throwout bearing mount in ya box??

Yup, the clutch pedal mounts on the original pivot pin and then bolts to a factory hole in the pedal box.
This is the best photo i could get lying upside-down under the steering column, circled in red is the bolt that secures the pedal assembly.
Even though MalWoodAuto said it was a direct fit the pedal assembly needed the pedal pin hole drilled out a little, there was also a significant burr in the tunnel.



The throw-out bearing is located using a pin provided by MalWood and shimmed to the correct depth.
It just floats freely on the pin but the pin prevents the whole bearing and hydraulic assembly from rotating and wrapping the hydraulic lines around itself.



After removing the clutch cable and reinforcing plate for the cracked firewall, Dad and I sussed out where to run the fluid reservoir line and throw-out bearing line.
The original cable hole was perfect for the reservoir line and a hole about an inch below that to go to the gearbox.



We could not for the life of us figure out where the provided reservoir bracket was meant to mount.
We tried every stud and bolt that was visible but none of them allowed it to sit right.
In the end Dad chopped the end of the bracket off so we could fit it to the lower brake booster bolt.





I didn't end up swapping the flywheel and clutch or fitting the throw-out bearing because i don't have any new flywheel bolts, plus it was 11pm by the time we finished the pedal and mounted the reservoir. I drove it to the School and back home again without a clutch.

So!

Three days later and the hydraulic clutch pedal and bearing are in!
Decided to prep and fit a spare T5 I had out of an EA, collected it from my parts pile and gave it a clean up.
Glad I decided to fit this T5 because it had been rebuilt and to think I was going to sell it for $250!



Some elbow grease, wire brush and degreaser later i think it came up alright.

Here's the rebuilt T5 with the fork taken out and the hydraulic throw-out bearing fitted.
You can see the pin it sits on to locate the bearing.




Fitted a blanking plate with grommets for the hydraulic lines, turned out a lot neater than i pictured it.





And here it is with the box back in the car.
Still need to fashion up a mount for the bleeder line as currently it's just hanging there lol.




Works like a treat, very happy with it.
