Doing the diff swap today. My diff is so f**k at the mo, massive amounts of play, so decided to do it today.

Just pulled it out of the EF, and about to start removing the EB one, but thought i might go and get some new swaybar and watts link bushes while its out.

I will be ging from the EB's 3:27 ratio to the EF's 3:23 ratio. This won't even make a notable difference in speed calibration will it? It is such i tiny difference, i don't think it'll matter.

Pics up tonight of pinion angles etc..

you dont need to worry about speed calibration as the speedo gear is the same for 3.23 and 3.27...

Here is the differance between 3.23 and 3.27 ratios for a standard 4speed auto with a 5,500rpm limit

3.23 Diff

3.27 Diff

(tyre calc is wrong, however this calculator is correct for both my 3.45 and 4.11 gears)

Not even 2km/hr differance

Why did ford bother?

Thanks Troyman and Fairmontxr6, you confirmed what i hoped. :) I didn't think it would be f**k of a difference. Yeah, why did ford even bother, lol.

Dawso_xr8 - I'd love a set of 18"shadow chromes, or something of the like, but i'm bothered that if i fit something bigger and nicer, it'll attract attention to my ride height. I can't be bothered clearing defects anymore, this is why i will only be fitting the EF Mont wheels when i get the 4th one.

On with the pics, it feels so f**k nice to have a diff that does not have a world of play in it. :D

Always have a Ford dog on standby
Image
This is where the EF currently is, so i had to pull it up the ramps with the XG, and them pull it over onto the blocks of wood.
Image
Also, when the cars is 300 metres away from the shed, it helps to bring enough tools.
Image
This is my pinion angle
Image
Image
After removing the eb diff, i had to modify the EB diff brake lines onto the EF housing, relativly easy job
Image
Final fitment
Image
And all done,

It is great too that the EF diff has wheelstuds a mile long, this aids in wheel choice and fitment of spacers etc, if ever need be.

I also used the EF control arms, the bushes where new in them, and they are of mcuh higher build quality (the arms). The pinion angle remained then same, seems to correct this i need slightly longer top arms, but it drives almost perfect now anyway, so i'm not in a hurry.

Now to find some 3:45 gears...

YAY! i have a handbrake again!!

Its all pretty much set up exactly how an EFEL is, but i had to add a bracket under the car to make it that way.

On the EF handbrake, it needs a bracket at the front of the cable, the EB body doesn't have this, so i made one.

And then it simply screws under the subframe, and the cable clips into it,

then adjust it,

And woot!! i can park on a hill again!

NICE!!!!!!

That looks like a top job.

Can you make me a bracket please? Or at least tell me what you used. No welding gear here at my place though.

I can indeed make you one if you like. There was welding required to make it properly.

I'll get on it tomorrow. :)
