LOL, you are a brave man my friend.

Re you PM, yes, there are a couple of EF Monts down here at the local Pick N Payless. I believe they want between $30 and $50 depending on who you ask, and what time of day it is.

As for postage, that could be a drama due to the size it takes up even when you try and roll it up.

Good luck with testing the loom, and hopefully we won't have to resort to interstate parts shopping.

Cheers
BenJ

Hell should hit up wacol dude, I'm sure they'd not want more than 10-20 bucks if anything for one, like my experiences lately, haha.

Indeed wacol only want $20, but after they told me on the phone that they have many EF mont's, i turned up to find not 1 EF mont with a good loom. Infact, there was only 1 loom, and it was fkn cut anyway. Sure there was around 30 EF/L shells, but they were just that, shells.

I just scored a good (appears to be) loom out of an NF, its uncut, hopefully it will solve my problems.

So hopefully we won't need to do interstate Ben.

Well, i plugged in all the loom, and components without the dash first just to test. Wait for it.....

My problem is solved, WOOT!!!!!

Everything is working as it did when it left the factory, and now i also have the simple option of swapping in a Lane cluster if i want to. The only difference was that the left plug of the loom wouldn't fit my cluster because the lane has 2 plugs on the left and 1 on the right, the Mont only has 1 each side. Simply swapping the plugs over solved this.

The dash is still out though, i'll fit it back in tomorrow. Also, i scored the woodgrain dash spear with the Ghia badge in it, so that'll go with my door spears nicely.

Pics soon.

Andrew.

Good stuff Andrew.

That must be a relief mate.

Now you can run a Lane cluster if you want LOL.

Oh yeah big relief, i'm ok with electrical diagnosis and repair when i put my mind to it, but this one got the better of me.

Only thing i can't get my head around on fitting Lane cluster is:

- How does the cluster know whcih door is open when i'll still have the Mont body loom?
- And same deal for the boot/fuel lights etc?

I wasn't sure whether it'll just work or not straight up.

:)

I had to install the little door ajar switches in each door lock, and the magnetic switch in the fuel flap. The boot one gets connected to the boot light switch line. Then we ran wires through the door looms to the car and around the car. It more fiddly than hard, and to install the door ajar switches we had to dissaemble the doors to get at the back of the door locks.

But I love the Lane cluster. It just is cool.

Cheers and Merry Christmas

BenJ

That makes sense. I read those links and 1 is the one i used to wire the mont plug to lane loom, other is very helpful, and describes what you just did Ben.

Because i already have the Lane Dash Loom in now, there must be somewhere easier the door sensor wiring could go? Or is it easier just to chop that plug off the dash loom, tape up the wiring and rewire that section?

I would assume that i could simply wire the door sensors into each of the door open switchs, but i doubt its that easy.

Merry Christmas to all. :)

Ok, i have done a little testing, and tooks some pics to explain what i mean.

This is the Fairlane 12 pin cluster plug, the one that has all the ajar sensor wires.
Image
I tested the four door ajar wires with my multimeter, and they lead to these plugs
Image
Now, in the Fairmont side of the loom, the wires indeed exist, and are the same colour. I tested if the react with the current door switches, but they don't. So these wires must go somewhere, maybe into the existing door looms? I dont remember exactly, but there could have been a free plug on all four of my door looms when i did the conversion??

I might pull a door trim off later and have a look, as i'm sure there was a free plug in there.
