1521a, and 977b both made 156kw

however the dyno run with the 977b had correction factors applied to it, because of difference in intake/ambient temps, in other words, s**t by 10kw probably. The 1521a might have made good peak power, but only made power high up, whereas your cam (1543b) made a couple kw less, but honestly was stronger throughout the rev range

its all numbers on paper, when i drove the car, i could defintely feel the difference between all the cams ive had, regardless what numbers they spun on the dyno

from the Wade Cams thread...
Quote:
The 1636 pulls down low and doesnt have much up top. The 977b pulls from the mid range upwards, but can be laggy down low. The 1543b feels similar to the 977b but stronger top end. The 1521a is very laggy down low, but pulls very hard in the top end, and has a noticably lumpy idle. All the cams bar the 1521a had a stock idle in my car

That should go very hard

What sort of money would I be looking at for a headjob (lol) like that? Can you compare it to an XR head? I imagine that reworking is alot more comprehensive than the tickford job?

Also, I see people using the XR ECU. Im guessing they just have slightly more agressive ignition & fuel maps? Why the xr reg though? I thought Fuel pressure wouldn't make a power difference as long as it is adequate?

Lastly, how is it getting tuned? Or are you just going to play with timing?

Sorry if you have covered this stuff, just been interested only in your cosmetic modding side of things until now. Looks like it should only cost a few grand to get good power out of the i6, should be making more than a stock or near stock 5.0 right?

Ah thanks for that info Dan, gives me a better guess.

Hey Dan1_721 - The machining done to the head i am getting done cheap, as he is my mate. He is doing all the head machining i mentioned, plus replacing the guides and seals, so i'm getting a complete head overhaul and the machining for $300. It will be far better than just having a tickford head.

Yes people use an XR ecu because mapping is slightly more aggressive, however it is getting way cheap now to just chip them (TIPERFORMANCE) for even more gains. The XR fuel reg helps because of the different mapping, and even without an ecu change, it still actually does let more fule through. Even though the injectors cycle is not being changed, the higher pressure lets more fuel through in the same time. This should only be done with a chipped or XR ecu though, as without it'll run richer, and like the fords need that, haha.

My tune for now is custom by Galapogus01, he really seems to know his s**t with the fords, so that will do for now. In the coming months i will buy his programmer and study what is on the chip, and when i get confident i'll have a play while looking at results on my mates mates dyno.

:)

Was looking at making some woodgrains for myself ages ago, and re-investigated the idea just this weekend... Looks like you've done it, and it looks great. Will be following suit shortly!

Yeah, it'll take a bit of fine work, but it seems doable. I'll be sure to post le pics when done.

Yeah - I had a good look at the shape for the first time on Saturday morning and then commented to someone about having just thrown away my planer as the blades were crap and it was only a cheap one. There is definitely a little work there in order to get them going good. I think a bit of nice wood run through a thicknesser to about 5mm and then soaked or steamed for a little while and bent around the door insert and held in place whilst it dries good and proper. Either that or spend quite a while d**k with a sander... Those door linings have just enough curve in them to be a pain in the a***...

Yeah the door curve has me stuped a little. Currently my timber is 13mm thick, but it'll be taken down to around 9mm, and then put into shape. I will be using a small hand plane, it'll take time though. I'm using tassie oak, which seems to have very similar grain to the standard stuff, then stain and varnish it down to i'm told "mahogany".

Something else i have been working on yesterday and today, something very sexual. Remember when i done the EF conversion, i could only get a grey or blue bear goot? which sucks balls with the cappa interior?

Well, get this dog up ya

Warning, this mod may offend leather lovers or ghia purests, lol

Image

Yeah thats right, that is a cappa leather gear boot i have been making. Its not yet finished, i should be done tonight though.

Oh and my head is done, i will be picking it up on saturday, and will procede to fit all the timing guides and lay the chain in there, and fit the sump gasket. The following weekend i will be refitting the head, and fitting the extractors and new cat i have yet to buy.
