Hey Andrew

Good on you for having a go mate. Might as well make it all match. Overall it will be more complete.

Cheers

cappa gear boot is exactly what it needs in there !! Now that you got the cappa leather seats, you will probably get sick of the grey highlights and turn them into cappa as well :)

have fun with the sump gasket.... do you have to lower the k-frame, or pull the motor?

Thanks lads, i am liking the boot more and more, and its been funny seeing me do sewing, haha.

Dan, i have read copious amounts of threads were people have had to either drop or lift to change the gasket, but i have done it before without having too, she'll be right mate. :)

Still a s**t job but.

Hmm looking good with that gear boot but with an intro like that, makes me worry where you got the leather from?
Hey if your still chasing a cat depending if your using factory ef cat or not, I'd have my stock one kicking around if your interested?

Yeah i wondered when someone would protest the leather i got for the boot, i had to sacrifice 2 of the leather doortrim inserts i got with my seats.

Hey thanks for the offer on the cat, i decided to use one i only just got for my fourby instead, and just get another for my fourby. Its a GTR skyline cat, new too, so it should be mint.

Too right mate, going to do some more on them monday at lunchtime if i remember.

Well, i fkn hate bunnings. I bought i bolt today that i misteriously lost for the tim ing cover, and the little f**k snapped while tightening it up!! I am so damn cut about it!! My mate is going to bring his easyouts after work this week and we'll get it out, its not like i have the money for a cat anyway.

Well here is some pics of our endevours yesterday, me and Dan (Fordfairmont) did some progress on it yesterday. I hoped to have it going, but we had way to many set backs, and the barstard i was getting the gtr cat off decided to keep it, i knew i shoulda bought it last week.

ready to be pulled apart again
Image
The head all done, and the boxes of new timing etc
Image
Debacle 1, major dramas getting the balancer off, my puller was way too big and had to move the condensor, still no go had to buy another puller!

Some close up of the head

AU gasket on ready for head.

Head in place and torqued up
Image
Dan though it was funny that even though i carefully stored my cam in an oily rag under some other rags, it still got surface rust on it, so i had to carefully remove it.
Image
Top end almost done
Image
Me starting to lose my sanity

Today i did stuff all because i was crazy hungover and the bolt gave me the s**t, so i decided on doing the easy stuff.

Still gotta fit the front seats, i have to swap the rails for them too fit. I also fitted my chip into the ecu and refitted into the kickpanel today, but thats it. In the morning i plan on bolting up the bbm, the pacies, the tensoiner, and power steer, but the rest will have to wait til i get this fkn bolt out. :(

Cheers

Anderw

Good stuff mate! Don't ya just love the look of those nice clean heads after they've been serviced  I'm doing the same thing tomorrow on my NA, except I have to remove the head again as I'm a silly duffer and didn't put the 2 guide rings back in that position the head to the block.......long story :P Bet you didn't forget
Good luck with it mate, I had to remove one of my thermostat housing bolts with the ole angle grinder, so I have to go get a replacement for that as well....so I guess I better avoid bunnings eh :D
Let's see who get's up and running first eh
Cheers,
Mick

what a pain to have the bolt snap.... and i bet it wasnt even torqued very much?

and yeah i had to laugh, when out came the cam,... you were like "taa daa" as the oily rag came off, and it looked like a boat anchor lol. But it was only surface rust like you said, so cleaned up alright !!

So you havnt got the timing cover on yet? Or have you got it on, and just need to fix one bolt?

i ask because you might as well strip off the new gasket & sealant thats dried up, and use the spare ones with fresh sealant...

Also, did you clean & scrape the living s**t out of the J3 connection on the ECU? My ecu had wax, plus a clear coat of dry s**t on the connectors, took 20 minutes to get all the crap off

Hey mick, you dont like a fourex eh? haha, i love that s**t. you'll probably be going before me, i'm strapped for cash and missing a couple of things still.

Yeah timing cover is on, i had to use the spare gasket and renew the sealant anyway, because i got it all on and forgot i hadn't put the bottom guide on, haha. So yeah all on, its just the bolt that goes on the bottom drivers side of it where it hold the front of the alternator brakcet. It'd probably be ok without it, but i dont wanna risk s**t, i have had enougfh of replacing things.

Yeah j3 pins took some patience to clean, i did both sides, i'm guessing thats correct? Anyway all fitted up good, i even pulled it back out and checked that the connection looked good, and then refitted.

Oh yeah, and i just got back upstairs from rubbing "product" into my leather, mmm, leather.

Yeah mate its all EF electronically, i moved them there mainly because the EB engine mounts dont have the bracket for them, and yes fords idea of on the engine mount sucks. It was simple as to do aswell, still the standard leads, just lengthen the plug to it. :)

Nice stuff... Like the idea of moving the coils... And good spotting Gogetta... I must only look in the centre of the picture and only look at what the caption tells me to look at. Remember those CUPCAKE photos? All I saw was cupcakes, honest.

Did you answer the question as to why the timing cover was taken off in the first place?

I'd say it had something to do with the "boxes of new timing gear" in one of the first photos?

Anyway, good stuff. Wonder if my extractors would melt the coil packs if I follow your example with that little gem....
