Hey all sorry for lack of updates, personal like stuff tend to get it the way when you want something done asap lol, oh well all good though,
basically just been collecting parts for the engine, weather has also been a b**ch cold and wet which I hate atm with me back etc etc, got some gasket and seals from autobarn (anyone know is Pro-Torque Gaskets are ok?) and a torque wrench to fix up the lifter without a shim, also just got my Gates Complete Hose Pack and Motorcraft Oil Filter from eBay. Picked up that little scraper from Autobarn for a whooping $1, used it to get the old gaskets off the thermostat housing etc Tomorrow back to Autobarn to get some degreaser and start cleaning engine bay up and clean up the alternator, engine mounts, engine to transmission support mounts, flywheel cover. belt tensioner.....think ya get the picture. oh also flush out the Radiator and Heater etc, radiator came up good, thought it had a leak on both top corners though thinking it was some sort of coolant spill at one time maybe, gonna keep a eye on it, does it again gonna replace it. Thanks for your time.

Hey guys attempted to do the lifter shims today but ended up failing due to finding out there were no retainers holding them in and pretty much all fell out straight away, though I did find out that there is 2 shims missing and 1 shim facing the wrong way and a broken lifter so just sat it back on the head for now, till I get some new litters etc
Also is getting blanket fibers on the rocker gear a bad thing has I cant help it has I don't have any cloth rag etc Apart from that rocker gear came off smoothly which I thought was good. Thanks.

Just make sure its all clean when it goes together.
I saw Nason brand lifters for less than $90 a full set not long ago on ebay, excellent price. Even at mates rates I paid more than that a few years ago! Good progress, are you enjoying it? |

While the engine is out, are you going to do the timing chain? It might be a good idea as fixing that with engine bay in, is a pain in the a***.
Also check your heater bypass hose...the one that runs from the intake side of the engine, around the back and then to the exhaust side. If it looks rusted and crap, replace it. Not sure if they are available new anymore, if you can't get one...I wonder if you can get away with using copper plumbing of the same diameter and bend it into shape. It is of softer material though, so might have issues with sealing behind water pump...nothing an over sized o-ring and some gasket maker to seal it up . (don't quote me on the copper plumbing...just an idea, never tried though)

Yeah not really, chain looks good think it may of been changed already, and the heater hose is good apart from a little rust on the connection between it and the thermostat connection (little hose bit that joins both of them), though that heater hose connection at the end of it was a C*** to get off, took like an hour.

hey guys got a little problem, replaced all lifters and got it all bolted down to 23nm (though in between 20-25 would be ok) and all is good except........2 bolts thread have seem to have striped and I was just wondering does that mean I've screwed me head/rocker gear?
its 2 on the exhaust side and they were fine when I was using the ratchet half turn trick till they all got finger tight and then I used the torque wrench, now I did the spiral sequence thing though thinking I missed these 2 and they got striped or something like that has when I took them out (noob thing to do when all others torqued down ) and they thread pieces on them. so just wondering if its fixable with a tap and die to 'clean' these 2 threads? thanks. (smacking himself in the face....)

Hey mate, it sounds like your threads are stripped which is a bugger. I broke a rocker gear bolt in mine, it was a relief as I'd though I'd stripped it. If you could find a bolt that would fit in the rocker gear in the next size up, I wouldn't see why you couldn't tap the thread out?

Yeah not sure if their is bigger bolts that will fit through the rocker gear not much room for the current set.
I know it defiantly strip has some has the thread pieces came out on the bolt, that is was only a single screw bit not the whole thing. Would prefer to use the current bolts.
