Well, considering I recently starting buying parts for the new girl... I thought I would finally start up its own thread.

Went out looking for a V8 Manual Ute and came back with this...

"09 FG XT 5spd Auto Sedan.
So not even close :/

But oh well, life does go on and although it wasnt what I was orignally looking for... I'm glad I didnt compromise for an older lower quality car. Im happy with the 'blank canvas' that i now have...

If you have any suggestions/ideas/questions, please don’t hesitate to make a post. I am after all just fumbling through this myself, so more than willing to learn, listen or do some further research…

___________________________
:!: The GOAL :!:
I re-evaluated my goals, and how realistic they are, so first goal is to get 190rwkw... think thats a good realistic goal to achieve in the short term...

Second goal is to AT LEAST match the power of a stock FG XR6T (270kW), while maintaining good reliability and setting a solid foundation to allow for further modification/improvement.

My other more important, and probably more long term goal is to have a faster car then my cousin... this will be the hard part, he drives a VY SS Ute 5.7L 6Spd manual (235kW@5200rpm, 465Nm@4400rpm). They are just stock figures, but he is also in the process of at least some cam work... so those figures will improve.
___________________________
As I just said above, im just fumbling my way through this… one forum/performance website/trip to my mechanic at a time… so im putting up a list of the things I need to expand my understanding in. As I gain an understanding of the issue, I will post up my findings for others to learn from, or more likely critique. Again, any suggestions are welcome… we are all here to learn and help.

:?: Currently researching :?:

 Valve train – Do I require parts other than upgraded valve springs? Eg. Roller rockers, valves, pushrods, etc.
 Diff - What are my options for upgrading the diff?
Recently discovered that the Gen III (VT to VZ) SS commodores, ran an M80 diff with LSD centers. So if I can get my hands on said diff, i can just transfer the internals and BAM... M80 LSD :)
 Transmission - At what level of power will the standard auto 5spd become too unreliable?
 Air bagged – I know I am going to cop some s**t for this, but I am looking into what it will cost me to set up airbags all round. I want it low, but airbags have the added advantage of when I need to raise it (Police, speed bumps, awkward driveways, etc), I can do it at the flick of a switch.
Links - http://www.airbagit.com http://www.airide.com.au
- Quick research shows that a fully optioned all round air bag system would cost approx $2200 plus fitting (light modifications need to be done to rear k-frame).
- Basic kit $900
http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Air-Suspension-Inc/Air-Suspension-Kits/Custom-Air-Suspension-Kit/582027/
- ‘e-Level Electronic Leveling System’ by Accuair Suspension would cost approx $1000, enabling me to easily have a fully adjustable setup along with 3 programmable set heights. For an additional $200, a remote (similar to keyless entry remotes) can be added to the system.
 Air bags effect on handling/ride comfort – how much will I have to sacrifice for the convenience of an air bag system?
- Airbag kit will make the ride a little rougher when full dropped, but at standard height little difference will be felt. Although, due to the need to replace part of the front strut, drivability is severely affected when bags are put in the front.
 Cheap brake upgrade - Looked this one a bit further already, and have purchased a set of FG XR6T brakes from an F6 ute. Front - 322mm x 28mm. Rear - 328mm x 26mm. 2 pot Front and Rear. Now just need to save up to get the rotors and new pads to suit.

Depends. Larger cams will make the power come on very aggressively, and provide more power for the same boost level.

I reckon cams are a great idea, especially if you're wanting to keep boost levels down (due to NA having higher comp ratio etc). Gives you ample power in a lower rev range, so you hit boost a lot quicker. I say go for it. Be sure to heat wrap all the manifold and get a blanket for the turbo. You will have massive heat soak if not, and will in the end fry hoses and wiring, and also you will lose a lot of power.

Have fun bro :D I want to see how it goes

Rightio, time to hunt down a right off engine for some parts. Cam, plenum, valve springs, etc... Though could be pricey. O well... See what I can find... :/

Yeah it's still on... Don't know how many we'll get, but s**t happens... Might just be you and I lol oh well, hopefully go for a drive after... See what happens.

I haven't got a stock time yet lol but I'm just gonna go off the generic mid 15's for a BA with 4sp Auto. I should be doing mid to low 14's easily once I get the car back on the 25th ish. If I recall, there's a test n tune on the 27th. Might head out then and give her a few squirts down the straight.

10th of nov might be a good option, what's the deal for those nights? Is it as many goes as you can fit in for the entry fee. Or is it pay per run?

Maybe by then I'll have a slight bit of modifying... Lol

It's $45 at the gate to race. $20 to spectate.

You basically do as many runs as you can in the time frame. Some people get lucky and bust out like 10 runs, sometimes you might only get 2-3. All depends on how many people turn up on the night.

I would love to see a few guys there. Could turn it into a cruise event. All meet up prior, and all drive down as a group. Have a few runs, and go our own ways from there.
