Before you get a tub liner, have a look at my gallery, for the cab extension mod pics. If you are a big guy, or have a significant other who carries a lot of crap, you will need this. A big improvement, imho.
Nice ute too.

The cab extension would have to be the best / first mod I recomend to anyone with an X-series ute. We have done them to almost every full sized ute you can think of, but X-series falcons are the easiest and quickest. Mine was done in a weekend, but when we had our shop we would do them in a day, drive in - drive out.
Ash, your ute cab looks really cool, but i think you went a bit over the top with all the bracing and such. Looks good tho... We just trim the original panel and fit it back in the new place. The only extra steel we use is a piece of angle for the base of the rear panel. Next time we do one, I will take a ship load of pics and do a tech doco and put it on here.

Here you go Ash. Not the best pic but will give you an idea. Biggest problem is the BA switches are so deep. I need to trim them down a bit and use pins instead of factory plug. Thats about the only place i could use on the AU Console. Still looks factory imo!

ashcook wrote: Rob, those switches look great there. I was thinking of putting mine more behind the shifter but I think they look very well spaced where you have fitted them. Did you get the switches from a Fairmont? Are they backlit? The wheels really suit the ute too. Fantastic clean factory look. Once you get your hardlid, it will clean it up that little bit more too. Yeah they are backlit one just need to do the extra wire. Like i said where ever you decide to put them it will be a problem cos of the depth of the switch but im sure you will fix that! Still looking for hardlid but no joy! Picked up genuine liner tho. Cheers |

Dan Must admit im surprised how well it goes. Not bad for a 3k ute! Has been looked after and only done 130ks. Bit more work on the paint and she will look even better. Dark window tint to come. |

i thought about getting a hard lid for mine but would make it hard to carry the moty round, if i ever need a new tarp ill get one of the ones with the push down clips.
have you considered one of these? hard lids can be heavily priced and can limit the tray usage |

For what i use it for a hard lid would be alright but push down clips look much better than current one

Have a real good think before you go to the trouble of fitting a flush style tarp with press studs. Firstly, the tarp will shrink a little with age, and it makes the corners curl up, and can make it very hard to clip down.
Secondly, if you ever neeed to carry something slightly higher than the sides of the ute, a standard tonneau will still be able to cover it, as the loops can stretch a bit. The flat tonneaus have no room at all, and anything even a tiny bit higher will have to ride out in the weather. With the standard tonneau, with loops, if the loops get streched or broken, they can be replaced very easily. My tonneau was custom mde for me at an upholstery shop, cost $120 all up, and was done in a day. When a couple of the loops on the tailgate got a bit streched when I was moving house, i went and saw him, and he replaced all of the loops across the back for less than $20.00. The ute originally came with a supercheap supplied tonneau, but it was crap. It was shiny, like vinyl, but it wasnt even water proof, and the first time i hit 100mph (160k's for the kids, and yes, i was on a private road, as far as you know) all of the straps across the rear snapped and the tonneau ripped badly before I could pull up. Find a upholstery shop that also does marine work, they are usually the best and cheapest for tonneaus. PS - I think hard lids are for commonwhores, and other utes that cant carry a load.
