hi guys been under the fairmont a fair bit lately so i thought it would be a good time to do a bit of show and tell
this is how i got her 174,000 km Attachment: SDC10790 (Small).JPG Attachment: SDC10788 (Small).JPG Attachment: SDC10795 (Small).JPG Attachment: SDC10796 (Small).JPG .Attachment: SDC10798 (Small).JPG on the first day i got it the car drove perfect. second day i found a miss and 1 very undone spark plug. replaced spark plugs miss got instantly worse. i then found the bbm gasket was flat out sucking air ,so i replaced that. found broken vac pipes so i replaced those slight miss checked intake and found to be completly stuffed and sucking so i upgraded to an el intake and box. also added bigger snorkel and k&n air filter, new std injectors, oil ,oil filter ,fuel filter . no miss, but is now running a bit warmer not hot warm . so i replace the thermostat and gasket and them it ran less warm but still not perfect. did 1000km and the heater tap completly failed. it was sheer luck that i stopped and noticed the leak. because the low coolant sensor light was blown. i walked about 1km to the servo to get some small hose clamps and found a suitable piece of metal to block both ends of the hoses were the heater tap should have been and fill it with water because i spent all my cash on the stoopid hose clamps . To to make matters worse another hose split that i then had to shorten.a 1000km later the tps and isc both went faulty at the same time aswell . i replaced them but i still need to get my head around the base idle. fully serviced my a** ive seen this in e series before the next thing to go after the thermostat to head gasket . will be the actual head gasket touch wood ,the previous owner said it had it done recent but now i dont belive 1 thing he told me . a month later first time i really jammed the brakes made a bang the brakes failed ,brake fail and air bag lights lit up and its grinding constantly and sprays my car with metal specks and brake fluid. i parked it up and began pulling the guts out You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. |

you might see it my internet friend ,
when it makes no evil noises and has received a to wash and then a cut n polish. and after i smoke the old suspension ratted tyres today i took her for a test drive and seriously too much camber, it was front wheel screaming through round abouts the rear left disc is grinding aswell i nipped up the strut nuts. i had to drive onto pavers so i could fit the jack under her. with both wheels off tightened the front discs and joints and preceeded to remove 4 of the 6 thick shims on each side . the missus took it for a quick midnight lap of the street and she is pleased apart from the rear brake and the excessive rake in suspension from front to back. i am getting over the spending endless amounts of money that i dont have on nothing special needed crap which suck away the dreams and financial potentiol of more interesting and performanced based modifcation. i took it her for drive today and it is in desperate need of a wheel alignment .
crap cause i locked the steering and i marked every thing with a paint pen and measured the new parts so i will install all the new stuff in the rear and then take it to jax for a so called full performance balance and full performance alignment . also some new tyres with nitro. i am getting a ticking in the front drivers disc under low speed braking. so i will replace the master cylinder and booster , before i bleed it again which i have to do anyway when i replace the rear bearing calipers, pads an discs. the exterior is getin better its mainly little black dots now that you can see up real close, but i can see it .the whole car was orange before i am removing the damage ona spot by spot basis by hand very time consuming. i am using ice clay bar micro fibrer towel and girlie scourers Attachment: SDC10928 (Small).JPG Attachment: SDC10931 (Small).JPG Attachment: SDC11021 (Small).JPG this is what i will be using when i finally get to polish her. Today i pulled the left rear disc upper and lower arms.
i took me a while to figure out a heat gun would turn the old clevite bushes to cra p enabling me to remove the rubber with a screw driver. Attachment: SDC11039 (Small).JPG i then removed the metal sleeves with a flat screwdriver and copious amounts of hammering, thumb smashing and swearing. the old disc made a perfect dolly ,which was good because i dont have a vice. driving dads land rover yesterday has made me want an electric handbrake.
i dont think it will be that hard to do as the 90% of the mechanical pressure in pulling the handbrake is in the lever itself. falcon h/bs are only good for parking anyhow.. i can apply the hand brake from the back wheel with one finger. so i was thinking of mounting an actuator at the cable join. it has to have a pull and lock and then let go action . i am going out to measure the pull distance required so i can snaffle somthing suitable, wishfull thinking but am wondering whether a boot or fuel puller will work? |
