tuning is correct. BUT you get what you pay for. I use Morel gear these days. Best bang for buck I've found. Had Pioneer, JBL, VDO Dayton, Hertz. Blown them all up as speakers. Morel is the only speakers I've found to handle the s**t I throw at them, and not break the bank.

BTW Lowlane7, no need to tell me to f**k off. Just an opinion

the head is the ONLY different. Bigger exhaust ports I believe. slightly stronger springs. different cam profile. That's it

they are 6". Fusion is a horrible brand.

I had 6.5" fusion power plant splits with a class d amp running active and 2 power plant subs with also a class d mono block, the sound was amazing it was sooooo bloody clear.

Most people that bag on fusion either haven't heard them or get the encounter stuff!

You could remove the clutch fan?

back when Fusion was good maybe. Now they're s**t. Much better stuff on the market

Fuk off, I'm with fullyforded there.. fusion can pump as hard as alpine, pioneer, jensen, sony whatever brand, you just gotta tune it right. Or get the competition stuff.

TUNING is the main issue, you can't over drive the speakers or amp, have a good search about tuning an you'll find out HEAPS.

Paper cones will produce the BEST sound, but it is weak material so it dosnt last long, that's why different materials are use and they try to find the best equivalent to produce good sound.
There were also some Jensen (not 100% I think that was the brand) speakers at repo for a while, $15 4", paper cone cheap as hell aluminum foil looking frames.. Not designed to be pumped hard, but were perfectly crisp and clear for standard replacement stuff. No problems, worked sweet as pie.

Go get a pro-linear brand sub in the triangle box (the have them at repco) they pump hard and crisp.. Cheap Ching Chong china brand stuff, but it's some awesome budget bass.

Kiwis mob in town are always splitting boxes and blowing amps and subs... The simply turn everything up and get earth quaking bass for a week.

Trust me Darcy, I've seen setups from ALL brands, and ultimately, it's down to tuning, like a scale you sacrifice lifespan for performance and vice versa..

That's from my experience anyway..

Agreed.

Iv heard expensive brand stuff, for the price the sound reproduction isn't worth it especially when most of the time it's only playing at 320kbs.
Some of my mates run around with that cheap auto one stuff and it sound awesome for what it is..... In fact it's more than likely made in the same factory anyway!

For anyone that would like to disagree go buy a pair of averaged priced speakers and a pair of expensive ones leave the C**k out of it and have a proper listen to it....... Than and only than can your opinion count.

This is not solely directed at 89.SVO

Yeah nothing personal to 89.SVO, (the fuk off is a dismissal not a literal, :-).)

Being at repco opened my eyes to how many products are from the same factor in china, just out a different door and different sticker..

So if I got a xr6 head and cam with the spring and valves I would technically have a na xr6 fairlane?

Yeah but nah, cos it wasn't a factory option, more an XR powered fairlane..

If you had a EL sapphire and put XR running gear you could "technically" call it a XR (because ELs had an XR option.. Know what I mean?

It's pretty much what I have, XR engine..

Did the sportsmans get XR spec motors maybe? Only NC on though, NAs all had the 3.9s (no upgraded version)

no, because you'll still have the horrible 3.9 bottom end. Swap the whole motor over

How many 3.9 bottom ends have you blown up from the s**t you give them? :P  (joke)

I do agree there, might as well get a 5-6 year newer bottom end..

When you look at it, XR isn't that spectacular.. 2mm bigger exhaust ports and a cam and tune to take advantage of it, all for an extra 5-10 kw (from memory)

Why not get a au engine manifold and run the ecu like when they do the barra conversions?

1 if by bottom end you mean block no I like the 3.9 mainly because im in college and I need the fuel economy
2 I like my manifold as its already there
3 the au ecu wont run my car as it has a dizzy and the au's dont
4 last but not least in a few years ill be changing the engine for an au or ba one

apart from that the gearbox has been serviced and it now changes smoother, quicker and my favourite I can change down manually. Also when I change the engine in a few years im looking at the ba xr6 turbo engine with the driveline to match also will be a manual when I do it.

Im thinking of posting pics of everything ive done in a single post so people can visually see what ive done.

0.1 of a litre isn't gonna affect your fuel economy.

Although I think it has been mentioned that there isn't many Ks on you current motor anyway so the bottom end should still be decent. So a head job is a good cheaper upgrade to a full engine swap.

Good to hear the box is working sweet. (It's still the 3 speed isn't it? Or do u have the 4 now?)

PICS PICS PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
