starting from scratch lads.
have AU2 SR i6, worn auto, slotted rotors and improved intake are all the mods if you dont count the scrape I put down it on mums drive way ran a lame 16.5 at a decent 89 mph. needs a good lauch badly. So far the plan is to get driveline sorted, as this seems to be the stumbling block in the performance. LSD and 3.7:1 gears I would like, and tonight won LSD hemishpere for $305 (fierce bidding lol) on ebay. so one checked box. Going to do the cheap things while I wait for some 3.7's, so Ive purchased a screamin' demon coil pack, NGK spiral wounds and NGK chaneled plugs to be gapped to 1.5mm. also have a flash tuner laying around waiting for the day when things are put together. Got a mech mate of mine doing an auto service next week or so, its slipping when cold so not good sign on fluid level. damn ford for sealing the box. do the good old s5 3/4 turn while he is at it. I think part of the reason for bad 60 foot was car only stalls to 1800 at best, should be closer to 2200??? service might fix this, if not, new stall down the track. other items on checklist after diff gears: Exhaust system- 4480's, mandrel 2.5, hooker muffler. Cam- Crescent stg 2/3 ?? or custom camtech/billet wade... not sure yet, no need to make choice since its a way off yet. Tune- once the cam/zorst is sorted either JMM or dynomotive will be sought to give tune. after that its some slight lowering on stiffer units. maybe 17 inch BAmk2 turbo rims, coz i really love em. updates and pics as i slowly plod along with a very mild but focused on nice drive street falcon.

on the weekend we did the service, and boy what a difference.
we changed the coil pack over, and it seems to want to pull from 2200rpm now, down from 2400 where it usually started to move. Its too early to say yet, but it seems to be getting stronger as the car adjusts to the high output coil. Nothing spastic mind you, maybe a few newtons here or there, but after each day it seems to get that 1% more. on a side note, its idling around 1000 rpm. up to 1200 when cold. is this because of the gearbox service and will it settle back down? will give it a dyno run at some point soon just for the hell of it.

yup, its part number 31737 from these guys: http://www.performancedistributors.com/fordtruckv6.htm simple swap over. I got it through their distributer on ebay coil cost $98 (cheaper than stocko from ford) but postage was $45. I will say though it came in 3 boxes one inside the other, with old yankee catalogues stuffed between, so good care was taken. On the webpage it says this coil is for 3.0 sixes, but upon getting onto their ebay distributor, its listed as being a "high output coil for 3.8/3.9 ltr mustang v6". looks like ford aus was raiding the US parts bin again... it comes with an instruction to gap your plugs to 0.065 of an inch (about 1.64mm). standard ford gap for au is 1.1-1.2 mm. I got mine gapped to 1.5mm to be safe (didnt want loose any spark up high if it was a furfie.) so far no misses at high rpm with 1.5mm gap (believe me, ive tested it after some time for the ecu to learn a bit it feels more torquey down low. holds 100 through anthony's cutting with more ease than before (i go through there every day to work). Im not sure yet but might be getting a few % more ks on fuel. The burn is much better, coz before it went on, slight rich smell from exhaust ( i do not drive ms daisy). Now, not a whiff of any smell, and havnt done a reset either. was suprised that afs were super good, was expecting it to be a little rich. only got it to help with ignition timing when flash tune gets done down the track, all these little 1%ers are really creamy. didnt expect any gains from it, even as slight as they are. hope that info helps. Im not sure how this coil would work on ef- Ive never looked at them, just my au.

who ever said AU's are ugly
now she is pretty stock (the 16 inch ftr's arnt standard of course) and soon she will be sitting a bit lower. got the nolathane kit coming from group buy, grabbing some shortened shocks next week, then its up for some low fronts, superlow rears to tidy up the ride height. still hunting around for 3.7 diff gears.

good luck chaps! picked up a set of 3.89's from an r31 for 110 bucks.
the install goes ahead on sunday with the aforementioned lsd. will take pics as we go. If anyone wants 4.11's in know where there are 3 from pintara's. CJ auto wreckers here in bacchus have 3 pintaras in stock, and when I went in they were all 4.11's. ended up getting the 3.89's from Nissan Here in thomastown. Once I get the nolathane bush kit from Adrian they will go in with shortened shocks (got) low front springs (got) and superlow rears (got). Cant wait. the next 2-3 weeks are gunna be awesome

tommorow is the big day... picked up 2 speedo corrector kits from jaycar, and Im way out of my depth! the assembally required on these things would be much easier with a step by step instruction instead of a cryptic map written in swahili algebra.
will be interesting. Im more worried about getting these correctors done right than the diff lol. if not, its no gear changes under wot, and incorrect speed display which aint fun.

Great success!
the lsd unit is in, and the 3.89 gears are in, and running, bit of a whine under load but we think I may have gotten oil that was too thick (grabbed the heavy duty stuff for 4wd and comercial). when cruising no noise at all. Step by step: step one empty out your diff housing. step two put in pinion gear with new bearing and seals step three fill in the rest with an lsd hemisphere and desired crown wheel ratio. put the drive shaft back on reconnect your axles et all, a dose of lsd fluid, and drive away a happy camper. 4 hrs at my mates place for which he charged me $120. all up cost: lsd diff- 300 3.89 gears- 110 Oil and bearings- 115 fitting- 120 ----------------------- $645. Now Ive gotta try and figure out how to assemble these jaycar correctors to get the speedo issue sorted. - 148km/h is 110 actual I get to feel like Im breaking the law lol. sits on 2450 rpm at 110km/h.

adding higher ratio diff gears should make your 110kph rpm lower then it is... mine cruises at 2000rpm at 110kph with 3.23 gears

The ratio is 36% out, so the faster you go the higher the difference. 149.6 is 110 + 36%, but i sit it on 148 to be safe. 60= ~80 on my speedo now, 90= ~120. 100 is obviously 136.6 km/h. Use the speedo calc in the tech docs if you dont believe me. fordfreak ef wrote: 148km/h is only 110km/h??? haha just a liiiil out... how does she feel "off the line"?? now.....
feels a lot better off the line, especially since she only has an aftermarket filter, no power upgrades. needs more top end HP to get the benefit in 1st and 2nd though, you can feel it rev without as much punch as you would like. 3rd and 4th are a different story, 3rd is now perfect for overtaking between 80-110ks, and 4th just has heaps of pull through any hills, and heaps of response just picks up nice. Problem is the limiter kicks in at 132.5 real km/h (180 on my speedo). need to get speedo corrector built (ive got no clue with this kit) and get the whole electronics sid eof it sorted. Only downside is the whine under load. could be the old skyline gears. who knows. with a good high flow exhaust and extractors, i could fix the top end HP problem, and the diff whine at the same time..... hmmmmmmm cheers boys for dropping by my thread and leaving some comments. been lonely so far

been chopping away at the intake slowly neatening it up a bit...
there we have the basic bits, existing pod, some 75mm zincalume downpipe from bunnings and some rubber joiners from autobarn.... silicon on the roll joins makes it airtight.... airbox lid mods, took out some of the ribbing and removed some of the meat around the top and bottom of the entry hole to lid to accomodate an angled entry (though i took too much off the top, creating a gap that i now must fill) assembled. the degree of join angle when fitted, isnt quite perfect, but it will do. got to find a pipe to connect rocker breather to intake. paint it, paint it, paint it... paint it blaaaaaack!!! photos of fitted and painted to come, thinkning of redoing the middle piece with 4 small slits in the far end angled and turned to deflect incoming air in a swirl pattern. oh btw, putting in the bushes, shortedned shocks and dobinson springs tommorow...or sunday...

I've been trying to find that zinkalume downpipe, bunnings told me they only had the rectangular stuff..
where did you find it if you don't mind my asking? |
