I have just gotten an ED GLi sedan, which will be getting all the goodies off the ol' EA put into it.
The head gasket isn't real flash, no suprise there..LOL, so my ported & polished head is going on it off the EA, as are many other performance bits too.
I have pulled the head off and preped it for the new head.

The EA head is now on the ED. So the 4.0 has a 3.9 head, 3.9 cam, and 4.0 rocker gear.
I stayed with the 3.9 cam because it has a slightl longer exhaust duration than the 4.0 cam. It also has a different centreline.
It will be interesting to see how the 4.0 goes with the 3.9 add-ons that made 186 rwhp. The 4.0 bottom end is in way better nic than the EA one.

Yeah, it sure makes the job of removing a head a hell of a lot easier. I have other Ford tools that I have made over the years.

project cars are good!!!.... i have to ask tho, i thought your not supposed to thoroughly clean the piston & bores as the carbon helps seal?

ive been thinking bout a project car as im sick of spending money on mine and would like to start with 100rwkw again and have fun chasing more. But im scared that i'll find a s**t that will need more money than what ive got to maintain...

Well,....carbon like whats in the bores, rings, etc is a wearing/scuffing agent, so when the head comes off, carbon from around the h'gasket drops down into the bores, and your cleaning the gasket off, and blowing out the bolt holes, and all that, I just clean everything, so you could eat off it.
I have done it this way for years, never had a problem.
I was looking at the bores in the EA, and there was no hone pattern left what so ever, and the ED bores still had a hone pattern right up to the turn-a-round point.

This arvo I modified the rear sway bar mountings on the chassis subframe, for added strength when the 27mm sway bar goes on from the ol EA. If you don't brace them up, they will crack and break off.

I've decided trying out a dumper pipe at the main muffler, and I made a stainless steel old school droopy tip ( 2&1/2") to put out the back.
I haven't finished making the dumper yet.

That's some neat looking work there. Are you a fitter & turner by trade?

What's the purpose of dumper pipe? I haven't heard of it before.

No, just a mechanic. The dumper pipe gives some bass tone to the exhaust note. Sounds awsome on V8's with twin exhaust.
The aren't legal on sedans, wagons or panel vans.
I haven't had a dumper before, this is the first one.
The dumper pipe goes straight on after the main muffler and points downward to stop heating the diff axle tube up.

nice machine work for a mechanic! hehe just kidding mate looking good.

how do you plan to cut the profile on your stainless plate?

grinder is too messy, oxy set wont cut stainless. unless you are planning to do it on the mill a plasma cutter would be the best bet

on another note can we see some pics of the outside of the car mate?

Thanks for the replies fellas.
I'm doing it the slow way ( the flange plate ), doing it in the lathe.
So while working on the car, the lathe is cutting away....multi-tasking..LOL.
I was swapping over the front suspension from the ol EA to the ED.
While I was at it, I detailed the under guards too.

Jesus Christ!!! dont you have access to a mill mate, Be a lot quicker. Thats going to put a radius on the profile might look a bit messy to, I take it you wont be machining right down to the profile you have marked so you can finnish it up with a flapper disk on a grinder (last resort when you dont have all the machines available).
