I heard a rumour last night that ANDRA are going to make it that if a car can do 12.00 sec 1/4 mile passes, it will need a cage (only if you don't have 3 dozen airbags) and 4 point harnesses, and the harnesses will need to be replaced every year........?????
Anybody heard that ???

Anybody heard that ??? Nah. I seriously doubt it since earlier this year they relaxed the rules on running 10's. If you have scare bags and ABS you no longer need a cage and you wont get booted from the track.

This thread is awesome.
You, my friend are living my dream. I need to get out from behind a computer and learn to weld and actually make stuff rather than just drill holes in things and loosen or tighten bolts. I was diagnosed with cancer in Dec last year - 2 surgeries later and now with a 50% chance of surviving the next 5 years let's say my "some day" goals have been moved one hell of a lot closer and something like this is definitely one of them

I didn't get anything done on it (the drag car) this weekend.....had 2 services + repairs to do, and fit speakers into the wifes car that I got for her birthday a couple of days ago.
I operated on the new speakers to change over the wire connectors so the original connectors just fitted straight up. I didn't want to run all new speaker wires.......WTH for, nothing wrong with the original ones anyway. I removed the connectors from the original 15W Eurovox speakers ( 6x9 rears and 6" round fronts, all dual cones ), and fitted them to Fusion 55W (310W peek) 6x9, 3 ways and Fusion shallow mount 40W (210W peek) 5.5" round 2 way speakers.....had to modify the mounting holes a little as the speaker chassis's were a little wider and deeper for the 6x9's, and redrill holes for the fronts. They work great, and the wife is happy...........................................for now.

Yeppoon got 9" in 12 hours.....Gladstone got 15 to 18" in 48 hours.....really was no good for painting. This weekend it didn't rain, but it get to 32*C with between 65% and 80% humidity. Man that sweat burns ya eyes out...... Well.....the dry season is getting closer.....when it starts, who knows?

I ended up filtering the Electrolyte for the plating kit....got all the orange crud out of it.
I bought an electronic PH Meter, and tested the electrolyte, and it is back in spec....I had added a little HCl acid to it earlier to lower the ph at a guess....turned out I guessed well.... I cleaned the Zinc Anodes with a wire brush too. I'm zinc plating some special bolts that hold the brake caliper halves together, and the bleeder nipples.....see how it goes this time round.

I have sucessfully plated my caliper bolts......
I have dipped them in yellow chromate to make them a gold colour. It takes 4 hours or so for the chromate to dry out.....so I just leave them hang in the bucket. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

This is what was happening before I filtered the Electrolyte..... ....rather crappy.
Anyway, I thought fvck it, I ordered 4 new camber bolts from Pedders yesterday. In the Pedders system, they are listed as 12.5mm bolts...... ......they are actually 1/2" bolts..... Looks like the system can't handle Imperial measurements, eh? You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Finally got round to building the front brake calipers for the drag car.
The calipers are from a 1966 VC Valiant. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I haven't done much lately, been doing other things, like repairing LHF and LHR doors for my Falcon to replace the bashed in ones from some clown who can't park.
And it's been raining a bit too lately.... This arvo I made new front spring hanger brackets. The old ones were bent, and worn from having stuffed bushes in a previous life. I made them from 5mm walled RHS of 89 x 89mm....the old ones were 4mm wall. I'm going to use 1/2" bolts instead of the original 7/16" bolts. I will also make the bushes from Acetal Delrin as well.
