Well after taking a long hard look at Mr ED once I had started on it , I worked out that to get the ultimate result that I wanted from him it was going to be a project that was going to somewhat quickly snowball.
I did not really want to totally strip the car to a shell at this time to fully respray it and I really didnt like the biscayne blue. Along with the dents , bruises and such I had to contend with it was going to just turn into a pain in the a*** and I could see myself getting the s**t with it pretty quick and forgetting about it. Then while flicking through the forums I came upon this ad. ford-parts-for-sale-f17/fs-nsw-cobalt-ebii-monty-ghia-3-months-rego-600-ono-t76495.html Well after a few PM's and a phone call between me and Mick the deal was done and as of Saturday I will be the proud owner of the Cobolt Blue EBII Monty. Yeah the new monty needs some work but it doesnt look insurmountable. Its also a factory colour I like so I should be able to get away with a doors closed respray to make it all nice and sparkly for the moment. At the moment the game plan is as follows. The controversial ANZ Mayhems off Mr ED will go on. All the stereo gear out of ED will be swapped over. Remove the NA Fairlane seats and clean up and fit the ED Fairmont seats and then keep an eye out for a set of Fairmont Ghia leathers. 3.27 V8 LSD from Mr ED wil be slotted in. AU motor and auto will be removed and I will put my 5.0 and 5 speed in. Paint the bonnet , roof and boot lid and just do some general tidy and touch ups to the body at this time. I will basically be using the EB as the body for the project , looking at both cars , picking the best bits from the 2 and putting them into the Cobolt car and then scrapping Mr ED. So yes once I sink my teeth into this project there will be a s**t load of Fairmont bits and other parts coming up for sale. I will get some more pics of the Monty on Saturday when I pick it up and once I start the swap over. I dont reckon it will take me too long to get into this one! I actually have a target for this. Im taking the Missus to see Brooks and Dunn in early may and apparantly we have to go in a 5.0 5 speed Cobolt Blue Monty.................wish me luck, I think Im going to need it to make that time frame! Matt

Gee Wiz Matt, You are keen
OK! You've convinced me...I'll list it as sold in the thread title for the last time I am actually quite pleased that it is going to be the basis of a new build and will get some much needed attention (Fairlanes Hog all the limelight around here ) and it's gunna be a 5.0L woohoo giddyup Can't wait to see this all come together. Cheers, Mick PS. bring a head unit with you and we'll wack it in for some tunes for the trip home (has pretty good Pioneer speakers and tweeters that will be left in it )

I'm an electronics technician Already have a terminal strip all marked up ready to go.....a few bootlace crimps, and she'll be ready to rock There was previously a big a** stereo fitted to the monty at some stage, a bit of stezza gear in the boot besides the speakers and the boot lid has been all sicka'd up (to reduce vibration I assume ) Not a big tunes man myself, but previous owner was obviously

Also looking forward to this one. Cobalt blue is my favourite colour and should look really good with those big mags. Should go good too with all your bits and pieces.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
Yeah Im loking forward to it too. I reckon the cobalt will look horn with the rims and stuff. Have got the word from the lady to pull my finger out and start swapping stuff over and modding this one as soon as it gets in the driveway. Maybe she wants me to be at the point of no return before I change my mind yet again............................................... So guess what Im doing over the easter break , weather permitting? Yep motor and box swap. Im hoping to have the interior , diff and front slotted rotors all sorted by this Monday afternoon. I have to change the name too to Blue Thunder II. The first Blue Thunder was my 351 , Top Loader 9" True Blu XY ute whe I was 19. Nothing can ever take the place of the old girl.

Well seeing as though I worked on a call out last night I got three quarters of a day off work today.
So I clipped my eyeballs back into my head jumped on a train and went to Micks house. Im telling ya I will never catch another f**k train in my life if it can at all be avoided! Pretty much an all stations from Penrith to Strathfield , change at Strathfield and up to Cardiff. I hate trains! Mick picked me up from the station(thanks mate) and I got to lay eyes on the beast. Very happy I am. Yeah it has issues to address but as a project base I dont think I could have done much better for the coin. The first mod was done before I even drove the car. I had bought my headunit with me and me and Mick quickly chucked it in so I had tunes on the way home. This things goes like a cat shot in the a*** and is good on fuel too. I averaged 108kmh on the trip computer at fuel useage of 10L/100kms on the trip back to Penrith. Yeah there was some bits where I was hiking along rather well....................... Will get some pics tomorrow I hope after work. If this rain pisses off its on for young and old then.

Well as promised here is a pic of it with my wheels on it.
Today I put the seats out of Mr ED into it. The seats need a good steam clean and tidy up but I will do that once I have finished working on the car , seeing as though there is a better then average chance I will get s**t on the seats as work progresses. I also run the RCA's and that for the stereo install through to the boot. I also fitted these I have canned the idea of going to a V8 as the AU motor actually honks along quite well. I will be chasing up a T5 conversion for it after I sell some bits off. Then a bit further down the track it will get a dedicated LPG conversion and will be charged. I will keep the spare V8 and rebuild that for my 4x4. Its very hard to justify the cost of rebuilding and go faster bits on an E series 5.0 when the AU motor takes boost so well. It will never sound like a V8 but hopefully it should be quicker then a nice everyday V8 will be. It will be good to play with something different. The today turned into a pain in the a***. Going down the shops I hit the brakes to be greated with a set of brake pads that delaminated and pretty much stuff all braking. Pulled it up , decided it needed new pads , so I got new wheel bearings and everything and decided to put my slotted rotors on. Jacked it up , started to pull it apart then things went down hill. The upright was flexing up and down as I pull on the caliper bolt to undo it. Thinking that this cant be good I started to investigate only to find that the ball joints had HALF AN INCH!!!! of vertical movement. So basically it now needs a new set of balljoints. The car is now parked as it is not safe to drive with the ball joints being that trashed so will have to look into having some new joints pushed in during the week. I am not a religious person by anymeans but I honestly reckon I had someone looking out for me on my drive back from Newcastle with stuffed brakes and balljoints for nothing at all to have happened. I was also hiking it along the freeway. Very very lucky it all happened local and there was no disasters. More updates as I progress.
