No chance a B series pod style filter housing would fit, unless I lop a few inches off the front of it and shrink the diameter by around 3".
In the limited time I've had to work on it I've got most of the air box done and made a start on the snorkel. That gives a fair indication of how little space I have to play with. Things starting to take shape All tacked up, ready for welding and a few coats of hammertone black |

Slowly slowly. The hard part is finding time to work on it.
The snorkel turned out better than I expected. Air box is painted, just needs to be put together. I've made a start on repairing the exhaust. 3" from turbo to cat and 2.5" from the cat back. Most of the 2.5" section was rusted so bad you'd flick it and chunks of rust would fall out. Why only a 2.5" cat back? Because that's what was on the car when I bought it and the engineer recommended I use it to pass the noise test. |

I got my BMW "done" enough to drive, but havent got time to finish the small things.. like cruise, a decent intake, and getting the exhaust quiet... {USERNAME} wrote: The snorkel turned out better than I expected. I put 3" with two straight-through hurricane mufflers on the BMW. Sounded Tuff. Also made the house, office, and anything concrete shake and vibrate. Ive dropped to a 2.5in turbo muffler in the centre for now and its tolerable. Once its engineered, then the game changes. I really do like your work on this. Very nice. Thanks again for the help on the Fans etc for the radiator Nigel |

No worries Nigel. We need more grass roots info sharing (not just any old info, accurate info). That's what got me into building cars in the first place.
Things are starting to take shape. The Snorkel came up a treat in Bunnings Hammertone Black. Almost looks like its got a grean pearl to it, or maybe that's just the reflection of the clothesline. The airbox frame got similar treatment. Last edited by xcabbi on Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:17 am, edited 1 time in total. |

With the turbo and airbox in place I could finally make a start on piping it all up.
Made a start on the cold side first as I aleady had the airflow meter turbe and silicone elbow. Had to get a reducer to match it all up to the 3.5" coller inlet/outlet. Then we started hacking up some aluminium dougnuts till we found something workable. Feel free to critique my aluminium welding Cold side all done |

Hotside came along quite nicely as well. Big thanks goes to Steve at JNT for the 3.5" to 2.5" reducer.

Relocated the charcoal cannister to under the drivers side front guard and the oil filter to the passengers side. Going to have to work out something to protect the fittings and hoses (as well as the turbo drain) from the odd chance of a stray rock.

Had some straight sections with beads rolled and welded them to the ends of the piping. The airflow meter tube has machined lips so it's all good.
Just have to plumb up the oil lines and cooler, power steering lines and shorten the wiring and I should be good to fire it up. |

Easy tiger. You must first drive the bobcat before you make up your mind.

Not a lot has happened besides taking to the bonnet with an angle grinder. The cooler only pokes out the bonnet a smidgen over 3".
