Well finally got the 182 & box out together and started removing stuff to get it ready for a severe scrub down & high pressure wash so I can then start preparing the engine bay for the new set up.

Hey can anyone tell me what the go is with the 1" nut on the steering box (the nut holding the steering coupling on the box)
I've removed the sir clip in the middle and have tried to get the lock tab away from the nut,but is it normal thread in the nut-as there no thread on the rest of the shaft coming out
The earlier X Series have a pinch bolt set up hold the coupler on the splines which is simple enough but the XG does seem a bit different and I don't want to damage the box by forcing it off the wrong way somehow?

So finally got the engine back together with new gaskets and seals for the sump timing and rocker cover, had to get a new timing cover dowl as one just disappeared (had everything bagged and tagged too) just under $7 from Ford at trade so no biggy, just need to do the front crankshaft oil seal before it gets the under drive balancer from the other engine along with all the pulleys that came with it(idler/tensioner etc)-will do the rear main seal before it goes in with the flex plate off the other 182 and the hi stall.

Thought I'd put this up so that you'd have an idea of how much this has cost so far as most of the parts I either bought for other projects and never used and the rest were just Ebay auction buys over the years that are to good not to bid on.

So I'll start with the main stuff.
Barra 182 $99 bought 5 years ago approximately.
4 speed auto $280 purposely for this.
Turbo $90 +$10 postage. New/never used no warranty etc.
Intercooler,piping kit,couplers & clamps etc.$288 delivered
38mm wastegate $60 new never used no warranty etc...
50mm monster gate $48 delivered

Will obviously not go so cheap with the fuel system and alot of the other parts are what end up costing a lot more for a build like this, especially valve springs and head studs etc........
So yeah it's all just cheap Ebay parts, stuff like the wastegate and blowoff valve I will be checking out with air PSI,but curiously the $48 blowoff valve (can take up to 35psi boost pressure)has a 2 year warranty and the seller has good feedback so we'll see how it all goes hey

Any questions I'm happy to answer.
Cheers Johnny.

P.s I know that the engine and box won't last long but the 182 that came out of the xg will be rebuilt to post 06 Typhoon spec & the box is getting a high performance HD rebuild for its XG-FPV MK-II then we may try ZF 6-speed.

These AN fittings and adapters and lines really make things alot simpler, admittedly I'm only using Ebay stuff for the most part, there's also some proflow & aeroflow AN adapters aswell, still need to get a 10M AN10 kit with AN shifter.

So here's a question, do you think that there is some quality difference between the Ford part and a generic aftermarket version, some say the OEM parts tend to last longer,as in these inlet manifold gaskets for example.Which would you use?

Cleaning up the engine bay,I've literally taken out all the xg wiring as I'll only be using a very small portion of it,removed both brackets off the front of the shock towers, will etch prime any bare metal-light sand (after finishing cleaning that is) and will then give a few coats of duplicolor paint matched dynamic white, have also started removing all the handbrake and cables etc along with anything else that is not necessary.will be removing the shocks and springs to lower it to super low, once the engines back in I'll be able to work out how much the rear needs to come down.

Did a swap around of wheels for rego on a EL,SO the el is borrowing the Dragways from the ute and Visa versa, ute looks weird and far to high with the 16's but the el looks pretty good with the dragways-looks fat as with eagers on the back haven't done the front yet as all the lug nuts have to have the tops cut off as the el wheel studs are longer.

Here's a comparison between the OEM harmonic balancer and the under drive balancer, thought I'd do this as I'm taking the under drive from the XG's first 182 to use on the new/fresher 182 with springs studs etc...
I've heard that you can also machine the OEM balancer down to get a similar result just change belts to suit the smaller balancer.

So got dragways on the front and deleted ALL the super ugly mud flaps, replaced left side front indicator lense-so just need to weld up one smallish hole in the driver's side rear inner sill and give her another wash and off for blue slip which it should pass no problem, it's in alot better shape than I thought it was. And then I'm giving it to my dad as this is alot better than the ba he has now (you wouldn't think that an old EL could be in better shape than any BA-but I suppose it's how a car has been taken care of that determines how long it may last)
I know it's not ute related but ya know EL-Dragways fat a** rear tyres what's not to love
