PICTURES UPDATED

The story so far.

- EL XR6 motor with standard bottom end
- Ported and polished head
- Custom stage 3 cam to suit the turbo.
- GT35/40 700hp roller bearing turbo
- Wolf 3D engine management
- O ringed the head
- Other small stuff, Malpassi fuel reg, bosch fuel pump, larger injectors etc....
16psi boost = 309rwkw

I have found that because my car is a daily driver, i tow with it, race it etc... a lot more issues are noticed compared with some of the dyno queens that are parrading around these days. I know quite a few cars with 400rwkw+ but they have only travelled 1000km. My car has now done 50,000km on this turbo set-up.

THEN
Bottom end started to cough and splutter so i decided to stripped it apart for a rebuild.

I believed that the 2.5" piping with some tight bends was restricting airflow in some places and there was room for improvement. I also thought that the standard intake was not only restricting more power but wasn't flowing evenly at this pressure and cyc 3 & 4 were running lean (i have had problems with these 2 cycliders before)

I wasn't game to run anything more than 16psi on the standard bottom end but with a stronger bottom end i thought perhaps 22psi - 24psi would yeild more popwer. My target is for 400rwkw (536hp) which equates to approx 670fwhp (10% more power than a V8 supercar)

We have stripped the motor down and
- Forged pistons
- BA XR6 Turbo rods
- Bored out he block 1mm per Cycl and is currently being blueprinted
- Blanaced Crank

Things to come
- Custom Plennium
- 3" Mandrel bent cooler piping from turbo to Plemmium (currently 2.5")

Sounds awesome! 400rwkw would be nice!

Are those rods a straight drop in to your XR6 engine?

This explains quite a lot

But seriously... so have you chewed a few head gaskets or the like? I imagine running lean on 3 & 4 @ over 1bar could be fairly nasty.

Also sounds like the displacement increasing a fair bit... im sure the lower comp ratio would be welcomed at over 1.5bar!

Thanks for sharing.... good luck and looking forward to seeing the results!

Have chewed out 2 head gaskets and the latest problem was with cyc 4 also. Not sure why the standard intake is not flow tested for 1 - 2 bar...?

Lower comp ratio will not go a-stray.

The block is being bored out and the forged pistons are made to suit BA XR6 Turbo's so they go together well. The rods are longer so there will also be a small increase in torque (obviously there will be an increse due to the extra 8-10psi as well). I had 1100n.m before hoping for perhaps 1500nw torque. Should be enought to snap people's heads back in the passangers seat ...

Exisiting torque is phenominal and the targeted figure even more so. That shows up most of the blown v8 mustangs I read bout in the states. Come to think of it.... blows away most of the exotics (ie. dodge viper) and power output is comparable with Ferrari F50 Enzo... scary.

Traction must surely be an issue!

Lol, might wanna draw up a neck injury disclaimer for people riding in your car!

There was another guy who posted on fordforums who complained of cyl 4 causing problems on his EA.

400kw would be truly awesome!

I cant wait to get my AU engine so I can play with that.

Torque is great, although in my vehicle it is obviously the turbo that generates it where as in larger displacement motors it is more the motor.

What i translate that to is while there is plenty of power off the line my torque continues to build and gets max at approx 160kmph when the velicoty of the wheels is pretty great anyway so it's hard to break traction at 160kmph (although i've done it in 4th in the wet). What this means is continual sitting you back in the seat right through to 180km

I imagine a V8 or V10 exotic would develop the torque sooner but then peter out later on...

Would love to see some dyno graphs if you ever get a chance to post em.

Cheers

Is the rebuild stemmed from what happened on the way home from geelong?
That was me that stopped my the way!

Yes..... Thanks for stopping, it was appreciated, perhaps if you had a dspare set of pistons and rods i could have done a quick change and kept going..... LOL :D

Pistons are OK not great, I lost compression on 4 and 6.

This sounds like a nice motor, what are the pistons/rods worth and how much porting did the head see?
